So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

And Joe wasn’t useless at the hospital. He did what he could in the circs. Nobody knew Nic was about to die just then. It‘s understandable that Will feels angry. He can’t be angry at Nic so he‘s angry at someone else. Joe‘s a wise old guy, l hope he sees that too. I can’t help wondering how Will would have been with Ed if it was the other way round and it was Ed as the grieving widower. Just that.

BikingBeatrix · 01/03/2018 21:10

Mootsie, you‘re right and Pip‘s now too far into pregnancyto be able to pretend she‘s not pg.

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/03/2018 21:30

What a bore the Dopeys are. I don't suppose a glider crash is realistic.

R4 · 01/03/2018 21:54

Willyum is angry that Joe was there at the end, not Willyum. But it was probably for the best; I'll bet that Nic felt able to unburden herself on Joe but couldn't have told W.
Was it coincidence that Nic went when W wasn't there?

MikeUniformMike · 01/03/2018 21:58

Poor Pippup.Imagine having Pip as a mother.

CeciledeVolanges · 01/03/2018 23:26

Did anyone else catch Ruth saying to Pip "we can afford to lose you... for one afternoon"?

BertrandRussell · 01/03/2018 23:36

"Also I agree with everything Will said about joe. Finally, someone has called him out"

Blimey........Shock

OuaisMaisBon · 02/03/2018 06:26

R4 - I doubt it, I gather people hang on whilst their spouses are with them and feel "free to go" once their closest family have left.
CeciledeVolanges - yes, well noted with a second of hope here Grin

It's recorded three to six weeks in advance, but they sometimes do frantic rewrites and rerecord episodes or parts of episodes. I don't think it was silly to mention the glider flight, the weather will be much more spring-like next week. I'd be surprised if there isn't a mention of the weather conditions tonight though. The severe weather only started to take effect properly on Tuesday, incredibly short time to rewrite and record before Thursday evening. The weather may have been forecast but it was difficult to predict what the exact effect would be on different areas.

Plus the fact, you do realise it's fiction. Not everything has to happen in The Archers which happens in real life.

Wash your mouth, Bettyfood.

They regularly do topical inserts without having to rewrite and re-record the entire episode. All that it takes is to do a short scene between a couple of the characters, or even just cut in a few different lines into an existing scene. They could, for instance, have added a line with Toby commenting about Pip working in the cold, and could have changed the line about gliding to say that there would be good thermals once the cold spell is over.

Gruach · 02/03/2018 08:41

In this weather Gasp0?

Glitterball

Don’t rate your chances of getting there before Will finds a new wife ...

Gruach · 02/03/2018 08:44

Becky Wright is on Today now talking about sepsis.

Gruach · 02/03/2018 08:47
  • An MP (?) whose name I didn’t catch.

She does have a lovely voice. (Recognisably Nic but calmer and more controlled.)

Vango · 02/03/2018 08:49

Nic’s not dead! You beat me to it Gruach.

RockNRollNerd · 02/03/2018 08:58

Ref the excruciating dinner at Brine and Jenny's the other night the trouble is they've set up too many reasonably major story lines at the moment so we've got the A plot of Nic's death which will run for some time but then we've also got the toxic waste, the surrogacy as well as Pip's pregnancy and major hints about Alice's problems with drink, work etc.

I think in the past when they've done major plots (SATTC, custard-gate etc) they've just had normal village life trundling on in the background and when they move away from the A plot it's not quite as jarring. When they're doing these major storylines (especially the educational ones) we need more Linda, Jim, Jolene etc just keeping the world ticking over.

DadDadDad · 02/03/2018 09:04

Becky Wright was on with Michael Grade who is a peer and spoke in parliament this week about sepsis, having had some personal experience of it.

R4 · 02/03/2018 09:14

The trouble with a topical insert is that you need villagers to be able to get into The Mailbox to record. I wouldn't be volunteering in this weather!

New tread title suggestion
It's not currently a barrel of laughs at Home Farm

Butteredparsn1ps · 02/03/2018 09:33

You've got me thinking along the lines of roll out the barrel now R4

Now who have we got on the run?

C8H10N4O2 · 02/03/2018 09:35

This morning on R4 John Humphrys described Nic as a "major character" (she was on programme as they were covering sepsis).

I've always thought of Nic as a distinctly second tier character who disappears for months at a time and was bordering on red shirt territory. AIBU?

I also discovered that the slightly wibbly voice is not put on for the part :)
