So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

Funny how both Williams have a son called George I reckon Prince William named his after George Grundy Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 24/02/2018 20:06

My lips are sealed Vango Wink

If nick was unpleasant about Bethany (I can't remember that) then she wasn't alone. Didn't Mike express some worries about her? And, if I recall, Roy wasn't very nice either.

Vango · 24/02/2018 20:13

Peggy was another one who gave Vicky a very cold shoulder when she first encountered Bethany at the shop. Wrote a letter of apology later.

Binkybix · 24/02/2018 20:24

Oh is Nic dead? You should have said Grin

It was very sad and I have applied savlon to all the little grazes in my childrens’ knees tonight.

Sorry, newbie question:Who’s Bethany?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/02/2018 20:38

Roy Tucker's mum Betty died from a heart attack a few years ago. Roy's dad Mike later met a woman called Vicky and they got married. Vicky unexpectedly became pregnant when well up in her 40s and their little girl Bethany was born with Down Syndrome. Mike, Vicky and Bethany now live in Birmingham, as do Roy's ex-wife Hayley and their daughter Abigail. All much missed. Too much to hope that the new Editor will bring them all back, I suppose.

EsmesBees · 24/02/2018 20:39

Bethany is Vicki and Mike's daughter. They now live in Birmingham

EsmesBees · 24/02/2018 20:41

Ah, crossed posted with a much more comprehensive answer!

I miss Hayley. I was annoyed that one of the consequences of the Roy/Elizabeth mess was that we lost one of the village's nicest characters.

Vango · 24/02/2018 20:41

Vicky and Nic had a lot of similarities now that I think of it. Both sunny, positive, optimistic people. Happy marriages etc.

LillianGish · 24/02/2018 20:42

Gaspode - can"t believe you just let the cat out of the bag that Betty is dead. Some people might have caught up with that episode yet Grin Actually Nic's death made me think of Betty - hers was a truly shocking and unexpected death.

Gruach · 24/02/2018 20:43

Has Lexi been introduced to Mike and Vicky and Bethany yet? I would love to hear Mike’s reaction to the surrogacy plan.

And does Brenda have any contact at all with her nieces? I like to imagine her sweeping into Oxford to take Phoebe out for extravagant cocktails. Taking Abbie shopping in the Mailbox. (Visiting BBC Birmingham ... Reverse the polarity! ) Or having her half sister Bethany to stay for the weekend in London.

(They exiled Brenda and distributed all her interesting qualities amongst half a dozen young Ambridge women. Am still not quite over it.)

Vango · 24/02/2018 20:50

Lynda and Vicky were amazing. And I loved Hayley.

cheminotte · 24/02/2018 20:52

How old were Brenda and Roy when Betty died? I remember that episode, she was home from hospital after having a heart attack and then had another one.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/02/2018 20:55

Silly me! Next I'll be mentioning that Phil Archer is dead.

Grin
ppeatfruit · 24/02/2018 20:59

Yes Gasp and didn't Betty have cancer first which was 'cured' but the treatment gave her a weakened heart? Or am I imagining that bit?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/02/2018 21:00

Brenda was early 20s. She had gone straight from A levels to work for BBC Borsetshire and then finally realised she wasn't going to progress further without a degree so went to Bournemouth to study radio journalism. She was in her first year when Betty died and didn't feel able to go back, so ended up transferring to Felpersham to do marketing. Dreadful waste of talent all round. She should have been sent down to London after a few months in Borchester and she could have been running Radio 4 by now.

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2018 21:02

I thought that might have been the case BOOP thanks.

Unless the snow is coming down thickly in our part of Fr. tomorrow I won'r be on line for a couple of weeks. I like a break!

Vicky and Nic had a lot of similarities now that I think of it. Both sunny, positive, optimistic people. Happy marriages etc.

Honestly? Nic was mostly a doormat to Whining Will, Vicky was pretty much the opposite in her relationship with Mike. I'd agree both mostly positive.

Crikey you lot, I got behind with TA over Christmas and RL stuff happening since. You buggers created umpteen threads for me to work through and I'm still not entirely sure I've caught up with you. At least with TA I can run the podcast at double speed and not miss anything :)

I think in December I was busy disagreeing with someone about Helen but I can't remember who it was - I'm sure the theme will recur.

I frequently wonder how someone as lovely as Clarrie spawned two such loathesome men. The male genes must run strong in Grundydom

And just to dive into the real controversy here - The Thread Title - I liked the original, think the new one is just as much a "spoiler" but without the humour but feel sorry for the poor bugger at HQ who picked up the request without being a TA listener!

FiveShelties · 24/02/2018 21:20

It never occurred to me to report the thread, but I can see that would have been the easiest thing to do.

Vicky was a great character, I was amazed when they moved away.

R4 · 24/02/2018 21:21

Vicky was an appalling woman. The sort who doesn't dot an i but draws a little heart instead.
She thought baby cows were cute rather than income-earning livestock.

Oops posted too soon ----

I still miss Walter Gabriel and especially his son Nelson. No idea how long ago that is but seems like a couple of lifetimes have gone by.

Please can we have an honourable mention for Heatherpet - who threw in the towel in Trowell. A woman whose northernness became more and more pronounced as the weeks went by, but went out on a Cockney ditty.
