So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

Personally, I have always tried to have the titles reflect key strands of the story lines with a wry, sometimes critical humour. I often try to get cultural references in there too, just for my own fun. And people don’t seem to mind. This is a key story line, and I accept that the timing was unfortunate and has upset several people. The title will be reinstated tomorrow I hope, and if I start threads I will continue to use my usual methods of title selection.

I don't get all the angst over the original thread title. I mean, it's hardly a matter of life and death...

JenMumsnet · 24/02/2018 18:18

Hi All,
I have been reading all of your posts and we will reinstate the thread tomorrow after the omnibus with the slight tweek. "Alas, poor Nic! I sacked her, Kenton.
Death comes to Ambridge. Discuss the remaining Archers here."

I do like it when it veers off into the funny...Grin

plimsolls · 24/02/2018 18:24

I share the same feeling Francis but for opposite reasons!

The fact the iplayer episodes don’t show the spoilers is salient because it undermines Pp argument that in order to listen again you have to see the spoilers on the website. You don’t. You use iplayer and there are no plot giveaways.

The fact that MN were willing to keep the edited title until after the omnibus merely reflects the fact that listening to the omnibus week by week instead of daily episodes is a generally accepted “valid” way to be behind (rather than just not bothering to listen for weeks and complaining that the rest of the world is discussing something that happened ages ago).

CaraBosse1 · 24/02/2018 18:25

Well, glad that's sorted itself out ☕️

Vango · 24/02/2018 18:27

But the ‘edited’ title is a MUCH bigger spoiler plimsolls! It actually says DEATH. Anyone saving themselves for the omnibus won’t get far before they work it out.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/02/2018 18:29

Nigel Pargeter will be disappointed to be missed out, @NorthernLurker. He did shake Ambridge to the core, after all...

Yes vango I totally agree about this particular edit of the title!

I’m more referring to the concept about whether it should have been changed/been less revealing in the first place...

cheminotte · 24/02/2018 18:34

Thanks for the new thread Pseudo . I listened to Weds, Thursday and Friday almost back to back this afternoon. Found myself a quiet corner before I started on Friday's though as when Will said 'you're really cold' I immediately thought of sepsis.
A colleague has had sepsis twice in the past year and has survived so I didn't think Nic would die.
Flowers to everyone for whom this is too familiar.

Oh gosh that was an unfortunate cross post with a lovely post from Cheminotte! I do apologise for the crassness.

Well anyone still wondering if Nic will be saved from her nick, in the nick of time is still going to be nicked off with the current title. ..

NorthernLurker · 24/02/2018 18:50

Yes I missed out Nigel. And Freda Fry. And Dan Archer (which was all Elizabeth's fault and is one of my earliest archers listening memories)

GnotherGnu · 24/02/2018 18:52

There doesn't seem much point in waiting till after the omnibus to change the title back, given that the current title is just as much of a spoiler. How many people will read "Untimely death comes to Ambridge" and think "Goodness, who can that be? Obviously not the person who was hauled off to hospital as an emergency on Thursday".

WineAndTiramisu · 24/02/2018 18:54

It's fine, if the arguments continue like this we'll be on a new thread by the omnibus GrinGrin

Puremince · 24/02/2018 18:54

Did Jake see his mother? Had he seen her before he was sent to the canteen?

Puremince · 24/02/2018 19:00

Scrub that. Presumably he was with Eddie when Eddie came back with the juice for Mia, and saw his mother after that.

Peartree17 · 24/02/2018 19:01

Greg (? - the gamekeeper lover of Hellin? have I remembered correctly?) also dead.

And Jack Woollaay.

I would like to know why MNHQ have edited the thread title to contain an even bigger "spoiler" (inverted commas indicate my scepticism that it is a spoiler when it went up over 2 hours after episode, etc), and when they are going to apologise for making it worse, not better. Also, do they agree they are numpties for doing this?
