So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

Re thread title as the previous one had "poison" in it carrying that theme forward might an option but a jokey title doesn't seem right.

A poison hits hard- Ambridge in shock

“A thread by any other name would spoil tout suite.”

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/02/2018 15:42

Bearing in mind the link below, I think we could revert back to the original now (or after the omnibus if people are feeling picky)

Peartree17 · 24/02/2018 15:47

I quite like "it's the mention of death that's the spoiler, you numpties!' as a title. Then we can be fully down the rabbit hole.

Government guidelines define consumption of more than 5 units of booze in one session as a 'binge". That's around 2 and half pints or 2 X 175ml glasses of 13.5% wine. Or one negroni. I can't imagine many licensees refusing to serve any more to someone who'd consumed that amount, but them's the guidelines. But Nic was foolish in not just having a quiet word with Kenton, since Alice was loud, lairy, spoiling for a fight and Kenton has never had problems refusing to serve someone who is the worse for wear.

If Nic did witness Alice running Matt over, it seems odd that she wouldn't say anything to her. And inconceivable that she wouldn't mention it to her husband. This is surely taking mousiness/forelock-tugging to the Aldridges too far? Or -and perhaps this is why she was feeling guilty - perhaps she didn't want to put Will into a position where he could/should say she should step up, do the right thing, report what she saw and therefore rock their boat. Loss of job, tied cottage, perks...

Gruach · 24/02/2018 16:20

As the option is available, I should like to see the original title reinstated after the omnibus.

Bit bored with this now.

WobblyLondoner · 24/02/2018 16:21

What a sad episode. Came on here to see what others thought Nic meant when she said to Joe that she had been bad - any other theories bar it bring to do with the dreaded Matt C? I couldn't make out what she said but the implication is that Joe did hear it - so I guess more will be revealed soon?

DadDadDad · 24/02/2018 16:23

@Gruach - I agree except you shouldn't have bothered with strikethrough!

Bit bored with this now.

Vango · 24/02/2018 16:42

any other theories bar it bring to do with the dreaded Matt C?

Maybe she felt bad about how things were left with Emma? She only said the apology was ‘too soon’ didn’t she?

Saker · 24/02/2018 16:50

Really? We are repainting nick as a homophonic narrow minded bigot now?
I really don't get this thread sometimes. I really don't. Now I remember why I stoped posting
I agree with this. And have come close to giving up myself at times.

Gosh I'm sorry, I didn't realise my comments would have such an effect - after all it's only a thread to discuss how we feel about a soap opera, Nic isn't a real person. Also it's only my opinion, and no doubt coloured by the fact I have a child with special needs and so particularly remembered Nic's reaction to Bethany having Down's Syndrome. But don't worry I hardly ever post here anyway.

Nobody has been utterly callous enough to call Knick a homophone, have they!?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 24/02/2018 17:39

I don't get this: the character died so it's wrong to remember anything about her characterization that wasn't positive?

Saying that, I genuinely can't remember her saying anything homophobic, and as for not being friends with Adam and Ian, I think Adam would have looked down his nose at her rather than the other way around!

I was surprised all those years ago when they brought her character back around to the the light after the slapping incident: sometimes that would have been the last straw for a character, after which we'd Know They Were a Wrong 'Un. Quite nicely done, really.

At least now we know why there were so many chats with Will saying 'ow 'appy we are, and Emmur's just jealous cos you're the best wife ever..... Wow, he's going to be casting around for the blame now, isn't he? A whole field of Maris Pipers on his shoulder, that one.

BertrandRussell · 24/02/2018 17:40

birdsdestiny · 24/02/2018 17:43

I don't think there is any evidence that Nic was homophobic though was there. We could suggest Pip is racist but it wouldn't be true however much we dislike her.

LillianGish · 24/02/2018 17:44

What was the point of changing the title and leaving in the death reference? Alas poor Nic. I knew her Kenton was fine (possibly with a slight amendment to I sacked her Kenton Grin They’ve deleted the wrong bit. It would be funny if it wasn’t so irritating.

LillianGish · 24/02/2018 17:49

Sorry - posted without RTFT - I’m a bit late to the party with my observation. Still ludicrous - especially so long after the episode aired.

Jenijena · 24/02/2018 17:55

If we try really, really hard we’ll have filled this thread up in time to contemplate whether the next thread title is spoiler worthy too...

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/02/2018 17:56

Francis Crawford On p14 I think there's a couple of posts from MNHQ one saying their willing to change again and asking for suggestions, then a second one suggesting going back to the original after the omnibus. So yeah, you're right, they're not saying their decision was wrong. And they're not saying they are reinstating, but they are offering the option if people think that's the right way to go.

PseudoBadger · 24/02/2018 18:00

Ok so I think that after the minibus we should reinstate the title with a slight amendment:
Alas, poor Nic! I sacked her, Kenton.
Death comes to Ambridge. Discuss the remaining Archers here.

plimsolls · 24/02/2018 18:04

francis why is it so important to you to have Nic’s death in the thread title? Unless I’m reading your posts wrong you just seem so annoyed!

I understand there’s a technicality about the definition of a spoiler and so it’s not a spoiler, sure. But lots of other Archers fans have posted here asking ‘you’ (Archers Thread people) to be mindful when coming up with new thread titles. Not all MN users listen in real time - many are just omnibus listeners and some like me don’t get a chance to listen until the following morning. It’s impossible to avoid the thread title unless we just don’t ever us MN.

Yeah, technically you don’t have to do anything and technically it’s not a spoiler but why not? Why not just be considerate to fellow Archers fans? I’m struggling to understand why it’s so important to have such a particular detail in just the thread title! Or is it now just a freedom of speech principle thing?

CaraBosse1 · 24/02/2018 18:05

Crikey, Francis, you're overly infested in this! For info, here's a screen shot of what I see when I go to listen to the Archers on iPlayer on my iPad which is my preferred way of listening. I can't screenshot what I see on my phone but there's no mention of Nic's death there either. And the title would have been a spoiler for those who like to listen to the Omnibus.

Anyway, I'm starting to sound over infested now ....

Does anybody else have an impulse to spam the board with threads saying

Nic is dead!!!

And so is John Archer

And so is Mark Hebden

and so is Polly Perks

And so is Grace!

MrsGrindah · 24/02/2018 18:07

Can I suggest a new thread title?
“ Nic is NOT DEAD!”
....satisfying both those that haven’t caught up yet and throwing everyone else off the scent? Grin
