Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

Have just LA‘d. The Will actor was actually rather good IMO.

Mishappening · 23/02/2018 20:28

Why does everyone think she ran Matt over?

What has Joe to do with the cut?

BikingBeatrix · 23/02/2018 20:29

We‘re filling this thread up. Nic‘s mum in Spain, coming home. Though l dislike him, l do feel a bit sorry if Will‘s going to have a battle to see /keep Jake and Mia. He went through that after George was born even though it was a different situation.

newtlover · 23/02/2018 20:30

I can confirm this was realistic, it happened almost exactly this way to a friend of mine many years ago, she also left young children, we left her with apparently bad flu, went away for a few days holiday, she had passed away when we returned. As for being with Joe, it also happens that people will die when their closest person is away from them |(my dad died while my mum was in the canteen, but I was there)
My friends children are now happy flourishing adults.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 23/02/2018 20:31

Nic cut her arm while with Joe sorting out stuff to be sold/trashed.

Nic said something to Joe but we couldn't hear what it was - possible death bed confession.

HelenaJustina · 23/02/2018 20:31

Just listened to it on catch up and it made me cry! Will catch up with this thread now...

GnotherGnu · 23/02/2018 20:31

They didn't know it was her last lucid moments then.

I think the SWs sort of did know ...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/02/2018 20:32

Bus stop meeting, yes. Meningitis, no, as far as I recall.

Vango · 23/02/2018 20:36

Bus stop meeting. Struggling with two small children. Ex had cheated on her.

Was George there? He’s known her most of his life. Poor children. Will sounded disbelieving, in denial, shocked. Not wooden to my ears.

Crunched · 23/02/2018 20:38

This is going to make Emma even more heroic. She will become a champion for all the Grundy children and for woman-kind.
Hopefully Will (who is wooden because he is a stilted, un-evolved misogynist) will come to respect Emma.

PseudoBadger · 23/02/2018 20:39

Poor Nic. How awful Sad

brownelephant · 23/02/2018 20:43

Will played the stereotype perfectly - confused, not understanding what the doctor was saying

I hate it if drs don't say what reslly is going on. had that when dc was very unwell. just tell people what's what. much better than trying to be 'diplomatic'.

AgnesSkinner · 23/02/2018 20:44

Could Nic have witnessed who hit Matt rather than her driving into him? Hence when Joe said she was going to a better place she thought she wasn’t because she hasn’t said anything (Alice and her drink problem springs to mind).

Not surprising that Eddie and Joe would be pragmatic, as farmers they will have seen animals die of sepsis, I think Will knew how serious it was but was in denial.

I liked Nic too - the scene with Joe teaching her to dance on Valentines was sweet.

Gruach · 23/02/2018 20:45

I’d argue that Will respects Emma more than almost anyone he’s ever known. Isn’t that why he loved her enough to marry her? Emma has every quality Will lacks - but he has no dominion over her so he’s constantly against her now.

Poor Will. Such a hard road from tonight for him.

Abra1de · 23/02/2018 20:47

I just assumed that emma was very pretty and gave him status in the village.

Vango · 23/02/2018 20:48

Hopefully Will (who is wooden because he is a stilted, un-evolved misogynist) will come to respect Emma.

Will doesn’t really deserve all the criticism. Poor sod thought he was happy once. Being cheated on, ending his marriage, having to fight to prove paternity, watching his child live in a caravan with his brother and ex-wife, finding out they’d planned to flee the country with the baby....well I guess that’s all taken its toll.

I can see why Will’s become paranoid and not able to trust people. Nic was doing a good job of rehabilitating him despite the ongoing low level hostility from Emma and Ed. I’m sad that they weren’t allowed a happy old age.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/02/2018 20:49

I thought that was actually quite well done. The doctor was trying to break it gently but Will was utterly certain everything was going to be OK. Consistent with his characterisation. He's not that bright. He frets about some things but not the health of his 37yo wife, who has hitherto been in excellent health.

Gruach · 23/02/2018 20:50

Nic as witness rather than culprit is a brilliant possibility.

I must say - someone has really been thinking hard about Joe’s role lately. Chilling to think he was reminiscing about how he met his wife when Nic received the fatal cut.

And how clever to give the vital information on the hit and run to the one person in the village that no-one will believe.

You could be onto something there, Agnes! Nic fretting that she didn't tell what she knew. Hmm.

Stillnotready · 23/02/2018 20:53

vango I bow to your memory, but Will is still a vile chauvinist and smug to boot. He will be left spinning and I hope Emma and Ed will step up for the children.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 23/02/2018 20:54

Yes!

Joe could drop a few hints with his best ghost-story voice on and terrify them into confessing.

littlebillie · 23/02/2018 20:54

Gulp

extinctspecies · 23/02/2018 20:54

Totally missed the deathbed confession. Too busy stirring the risotto.

Madcats · 23/02/2018 20:57

I was entirely sober, but I was in tears tonight. I didn't see this one coming.

Presumably Lexi will come to the rescue, since she normally sorts out most dramas in the Archers!

As an aside, Rob Titchener is pretending to be somebody else on the stage (coming to Bath soon).
