Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

Did Jake and Mia get brought to the hospital or just Poppy?

Wonder if they'll go to their dad full time now.

Abra1de · 23/02/2018 19:26

Nic’s first husband wasn’t very nice, if I remember rightly.

Vango · 23/02/2018 19:28

Nic was so controlled by her nasty narrow minded husband.

How can you say that? And follow it with this?

I wish she’d had a chance to flourish, like when she organised the crb service and supported Emma in the election.

They had a marriage that I guess many on here see as flawed but they loved each other very much.

TeenTimesTwo · 23/02/2018 19:29

The default would be to go to their birth dad if he wants them and can care for them. So theoretically Jake and Mia could lose not only their mum but their whole extended 'Grundy' family ...

TheAntiBoop · 23/02/2018 19:30

That's it for me I'm afraid. All the crappy characters and stupidly overly dramatic sl all the time and then they do this. All tied off wth will unrealistically having to leave the room in her last lucid moments. What a nonsense but obviously done to ratchet up the grief.

Finally pushed me over the edge and I'm not listening anymore. See you all elsewhere!

Abra1de · 23/02/2018 19:30

They will miss Clarrie.

Vango · 23/02/2018 19:30

They were all there ADarkandStormyKnight. Clarrie mentioned that Jake had gone to the canteen.

Timetogetup0630 · 23/02/2018 19:30

Well that was horrible. And made worse by the fact that poor Nic died with nasty dirty old Joe hanging over her.

I always liked Will. I thought that Ed was the no good when they were teenagers, and that will was the honest one ?

EBearhug · 23/02/2018 19:31

Well. Gosh.

Peartree17 · 23/02/2018 19:31

Well, I didn't think that would happen. I really didn't think the story writers would punish Will so hard for being such a . Very good scene with Nic and Joe - did Nic's confession come out to Joe? Consensus is she ran Matt over? I confess I was quite teary at that point, Joe was so kind - and realistic.

Vango · 23/02/2018 19:34

I’m slightly annoyed at Joe for putting pressure on Will to go to Poppy. Will said that he’d be there in a few minutes - they should have coped.

GnotherGnu · 23/02/2018 19:34

The scene between Joe and Nic was really moving. Brilliant acting, particularly by Joe.

Stickerrocks · 23/02/2018 19:34

Will played the stereotype perfectly - confused, not understanding what the doctor was saying, leaving Nic in Joe's hands as she deteriorated, not wanting to bother the doctors and not refusing to leave her side. With the exception of Eddie who clicked when Will rang, they all seemed so innocent & naive.

MrsGrindah · 23/02/2018 19:35

nasty dirty old Joe ?!

Whaaaat?!

Gruach · 23/02/2018 19:36

but obviously done to ratchet up the grief

But, no AntiB - it was so she could make her dying confession without Will there. She sent him away.

EBearhug · 23/02/2018 19:36

I wondered about Jake and Mia, too.

According to Wikipedia, in 2009 Jake was 4 and Mia 2, which makes them now about 12-13 and 10-11.

Can I just use this as a living will - I do not want Joe Grundy anywhere near me if I'm critically ill. "You're leaving here to go to a better place..."

whiteroseredrose · 23/02/2018 19:37

Bastards. Why couldn't it have been Pip?

Agree. Nick was a really nice non-annoying character. I feel really sad.

MrsGrindah · 23/02/2018 19:39

Can I just smugly say though that even though I was crap at predicting Nic would live, my thread title is even more accurate now!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/02/2018 19:40

Well, Hugh Canoe decided to go out with a bang! Huge gulping sobs here. It certainly seemed as if Nic was confessing to something big, and what else could it be? Now down to the aged Joe to decide whether to repeat what he thought the delirious, dying Nic told him. Hmm

Gruach · 23/02/2018 19:41

really nice non-annoying ...

Expendable.

And that “she wants her dad” from Clarrie - I suspect we’re being nudged to remember Jake and Mia’s bio-dad.

GnotherGnu · 23/02/2018 19:41

This is clearly Huge Canoe going out with a bang, but I don't think it's an unjustifiable storyline. Unfortunately sepsis does happen as easily as that, and is as dangerous as that. All too many people die because of it.

GnotherGnu · 23/02/2018 19:42

Cross post, Gasp0de!

EmilyDickinson · 23/02/2018 19:42

Eddie was great wasn't he. He understood straightaway why the doctors were saying bring the children now and as well as getting the children to the hospital in time he made sure Nic's mum was contacted, told Will to go and be with Nic and even remembered to tell Toby to wake Ruth or David rather than look after the lambing ewes on his own. Clearly a good man in a crisis.

They did bring all the children. Someone said they'd sent Jake to the café as he needed to feel useful and Will left Nic because Mia was crying her eyes out and setting Poppy off. Those poor children.

I think Nic must have confessed to running Matt over. I can't think what else she could have done. How awful that she seems to have died frightened about it.
