Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

Back to the public information service days of the Archers. They had obviously been asked to tie it in to Awareness Week, along with Ferne Briton.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/02/2018 19:45

I am in pieces and cried my eyes out at that. Poor Nic. I thought they did that very well.

The difference in acting standards between Eddie and Joe (excellent) and Will (wooden) was striking though.

Bakedappleflavour · 23/02/2018 19:45

I don't find all the awareness about it hugely useful though, how on earth are you supposed to know if it's flu (or whatever) or sepsis? It seems that by the time the symptoms show it's too late!

Stillnotready · 23/02/2018 19:45

Maybe vango but he was horrible when she lost her job, just not understanding what it meant to her, and then there was the scene when Emma came over and he took control saying ‘we don’t need that do we Nic’ ( massive paraphrase I agree)
And I also remember how he ditched her first time around because she told George off when he’d left her to look after him, and he’d been mis- behaving very badly to her little ones.

CraicMammy · 23/02/2018 19:45

It certainly seemed as if Nic was confessing to something big, and what else could it be?

Maybe Nic stole the bunting...

orangina · 23/02/2018 19:46

I didn't want Nic to die!!!!!! I am really sad and slightly shocked (it happened so quickly......) Shock

BikingBeatrix · 23/02/2018 19:47

Does feeling guilty over Matt‘s accident explain her new vicious side in recent weeks? I‘m not sure. l think Will leaving the room when he did is ok. Nobody knew she was going into an arrest and once that‘s happened it‘s realistic that the family incl husband would be left outside - quite usual that the family are unaware of exactly what‘s going on. IRL it‘s grim, here it was too. Sad

BitOutOfPractice · 23/02/2018 19:48

will unrealistically having to leave the room in her last lucid moments.

Eh? They didn't know it was her last lucid moments then. So erm, bye antiBOOP

Vango · 23/02/2018 19:49

He ditched her first time because she slapped George. Not good.

And everyone, including Clarrie, warned him that she was a gold-digger.

Will had to prioritise George. Don’t forget that Ed and Emma had planned to run off to France with George not long before. Will couldn’t risk his access to his own child.

Public service announcement:

How to spot sepsis

Sepsis could occur as the result of any infection. Seek medical help urgently if you develop any of the following:

Slurred speech or confusion

Extreme shivering or muscle pain

Passing no urine (in a day)

Severe breathlessness

Skin mottled or discoloured

Jenijena · 23/02/2018 19:52

I appear to have something in my eye...

JessieMcJessie · 23/02/2018 19:56

Oh God is she definitely dead? I can’t bear to listen. Since I had my son I am completely unable to cope with any stories in the news or dramas about children losing their mummies. Was her Mum there with her?

And also the Will actor is a bit limited in range, not sure he’ll be up to this.

Beeziekn33ze · 23/02/2018 19:58

Didn't Will and Nic meet at a bus stop where he realised that one of her children had meningitis. He acted quickly and got them to hospital. What a terrible end to Will's relationship and a shattering of him as the slightly smug family man.

BikingBeatrix · 23/02/2018 20:02

Aye, public ed message: don’t brag about having loads of dosh cos you never know what‘s around the next corner. Hmm

Putthetulipsthere · 23/02/2018 20:04

God - 😱😱 Well the sw certainly took me by surprise there; I thought she’d pull through one way or another.

Agree with pp that Will Grundy’s actor was sooo wooden whereas Eddie was extraordinary. But the doctor was atrocious!

Have to say scenes with the children and Jo made me very tearful, so much so I almost crashed the car ( not a good move as my son was in the car!)

Feel guilty to admit I won’t miss Nic - yes she was nice, but her and Will are/we’re not my favourite characters. And Will sounds depressed at best of times, what will he be like now?

EsmesBees · 23/02/2018 20:05

Anyone remember the situation with Nic's ex (Andrew?). Is he likely to want custody of Jake and Mia?

echt · 23/02/2018 20:05

I've just caught up with this via computer and thank you BBC site for Having "Nic's death" emblazoned across the screen.Hmm

Anyway, a beautifully touching moment when Will said: "It can't be that serious, she was cleaning her trainers just the other day." Perfect. I had tear in my eye then. Great script.

extinctspecies · 23/02/2018 20:08

Has anyone in the Archers died of cancer?

Because that seems to be what kills most of my friends before their time ... and would surely be a bit more realistic.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 23/02/2018 20:09

Bit late but oh no

ADarkandStormyKnight · 23/02/2018 20:10

The whole village will feel guilty - Will for not being there and not taking her dancing before, Joe for the scratch, Brian for making Will work, Jolene for sacking Nic, Emma for not succeeding in making it up with her...

CeciledeVolanges · 23/02/2018 20:13

Oh God that was awful. Reminds me of when my whole family were in the hospital when my grandad had urosepsis (not haemosepsis) and when Joe said she was going to a better place, oh God. It's absolutely awful.

CallYourDadYoureInACult · 23/02/2018 20:17

I won’t massively miss her - I found her voice quite annoying. However, she was the reason that Will And Ed got on a bit better. Although the SW seemed to watch to sabotage any good feeling about that with having her shout some pretty vile stuff to Emma and for her and Ed to get all smug about their money.

JessieMcJessie · 23/02/2018 20:18

Better place my arse. My Mum is not in abetter W nm m

JessieMcJessie · 23/02/2018 20:21

Was her Mum there, please someone tell me. I’m not going to listen.

Bakedappleflavour · 23/02/2018 20:21

No her mum was on the plane on her way IIRC
