Am i the only one listening to Homefront?

I download the whole lot at the beginning of the week and binge listen whilst walking the dogs. Just listened to the extra programme they put out today and, unusually for me, i found it so touching and sad.

Anyone else?

I love it too. Found the very beginning rather clunky, but it soon got into its stride.
Great characters and acting. And such a clever, wide-ranging plot. I miss it when it's not on.

DoctorTwo · 28/05/2017 10:42

I'm another listener, I think it's really well done. The 45 minute play on Thursday was utterly compelling, so much so I sat in my van round the corner from a delivery until it had finished. :o

Toooldtobearsed · 28/05/2017 14:10

So pleased I am not the only one😊

The tramp and his back story was so well woven in, and the time always being 6:20........ lump in throat time.

I dont like it as much when it us set in the north, much prefer the Folkstone series.

Only a year of it to go.

It doesn't work for me.

The best programme on the radio about the First World War is this one:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03t7p9l/episodes/player

What it was really like said by people who were there. Often compelling listening.

maras2 · 01/08/2017 16:27

Daily Omnibus on BBCr4extra,feeds my habit.

Ruffian · 02/08/2017 00:15

I find homefront excruciating. Can't wait for the war to be over!

NancyJoan · 14/08/2017 22:15

I love it. Binged on this week's episodes while I sorted laundry this morning. I hate Juliet with such a passion.

BringMeTea · 30/08/2017 15:22

Love it here. I found the 'treatment' of elective? mute soldier really distressing. I also just love that they have made it. Licence fee etc. etc.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 23/09/2017 20:43

Is anyone still listening? Victor is the nicest husband like, ever

thesurreyyouth · 23/09/2017 21:59

I'm still listening. Some episodes are so touching and others are bizarre.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 23/09/2017 22:08

I like it although it's often completely ridiculous. How many husbands and fiancés have come back unexpectedly from the dead now? At least three.

calmtulip · 30/09/2017 18:24

Yes love it too. Think it's a bit wasted on radio 4 extra.

FiveShelties · 10/11/2017 07:26

Starting again on the 13th, not sure for how long though.

MrsArthurShappey · 13/11/2017 12:10

I'm still in October 1915! Can't believe Sam died after all that family went through.

JingsMahBucket · 26/12/2017 01:07

Are any of you still listening to it? I love where they are now with the factory strikes.

thesurreyyouth · 26/12/2017 09:51

I’ve been listening to this latest run, it took me a little while to tune into the different voices. I’m not sure how the Kitty story will end, and I’m surprised that ladies football was so supported by both men and women back in 1917 - why/when did the popularity change to becoming a sport championed by men?
My lovely 94 year old neighbour told me this week that she was a bus conductor up in Glasgow during WW2 taking the workers to the munitions factory and I immediately thought of Home front.

JingsMahBucket · 26/12/2017 11:41

Usually when the men returned from fighting in both wars did the popularity of women's sports wane. It's sad. But I realized your question was the converse – when did they start garnering so much support. Maybe as the war dragged on it gave people some excitement and mental break to focus on that?

That's a lovely story from your neighbour. I would be inviting her round for tea and egging her on to get more stories.

TamzinGrey · 27/12/2017 16:29

Here's a really interesting article about munitions factory women's football from the Homefront website. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5nsXCQcNm7wggTxvS0y1BnF/the-forgotten-first-international-women-s-football-match
Women's football didn't cease after the war because of a wane in popularity when the men came back - the bastards banned it !

Weezol · 27/12/2017 16:33

I think Home Front is outstanding.
Placemarking as I have four omnibus podcasts to catch up on.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 03/01/2018 11:43

Anyone else feeling a bit sad that now it's 2018 the series will be ending soon? I'll really miss all of these characters!

cirrusblue · 03/01/2018 12:27

Yes I will miss it all too greatly when it ends. Does anyone else think a new actor is playing Johnny Marshall in this latest series? He seems to sound different, more po-faced, and has also had a character transplant from the devil-may-care spy who went undercover in Belgium and rescued Christine, to someone pompous and humourless.

nigelschristmasham · 03/01/2018 13:14

Is it possible to get it somewhere from the beginning does anyone know?

MrsArthurShappey · 03/01/2018 13:19

nigel it's all on iplayer (listed with the most recent first). I still haven't caught up but am going through all the omnibus episodes. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04dv1g4/episodes/player

nigelschristmasham · 03/01/2018 13:45

Thankyou mrs Arthur! I love things like this and I always have the radio on at home for company but fed up with radio 5, and 2 so this will be good for a change.

mammmamia · 23/03/2018 08:23

I've only just discovered it and am addicted, have been downloading a few omnibuses a week for the last couple of weeks.
I agree the beginnjng was clunky but it got going so well. I'm upset to have read the spoilers on this thread, I'm still on 1914!
