I am eagerly anticipating Pip's downfall.

Ceto although I think her reason for passing the Helen work onto her colleague was the conflict of interest, what with Helen being her tenant and messing up Usha's carpet.

BertrandRussell · 15/04/2017 09:34

I thought Usha was just an old fashioned country solicitor? Bit of everything.....

ErrolTheDragon · 15/04/2017 09:41

Usha's practice is in Felpersham isn't it, it's not exactly a 'country practice'?

I know what you mean, Bert, but I quite liked that the cricket SL moved from straight sexism (Will and others opposing any girls or women in the team) onto the double whammy with ageism- the invisibility of older women, who Harrison (someone who has presumably done some diversity training?). And the women were just those who could see that the idea we've achieved equality of treatment is untrue and needed a nudge to object.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 15/04/2017 09:43

It seems so, Bertrand which I can't imagine is very efficient or lucrative these days.
Even in a practice of 2 or 3 partners I'd expect some specialisation, with a bit of cross-over to cover absences. I bet they don't have much in the way of additional staff either.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 15/04/2017 09:45

Another thought, does Alistair have any employees? A receptionist or book keeper or nurse or admin? Or does Sant Shula do it all for him?Hmm

GrumpyOldBag · 15/04/2017 09:45

I assumed Usha was the sort of solicitor who does a bit of conveyancing, will writing, simple contract work etc ....

ErrolTheDragon · 15/04/2017 09:46

But yes, provincial town solicitor probably has a large chunk of wills (drafting and executing), that sort of stuff which allows for as easy a scheduling of holiday as many other professions. She would presumably know how her diary looks and whether she can take time off at the moment.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 15/04/2017 10:09

I have to say I'm enjoying the cricket storyline. Was so pleased Susan was good too, even though it was a bit predictable.

EBearhug · 15/04/2017 10:19

Alistair does have a receptionist and/or vet nurse, who was mentioned by name some weeks back, possibly when he was still deciding to go with Anisha or the other firm. Can't remember the name, though.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/04/2017 10:22

In real life it is highly improbable Usha's practice would have kept Helen's case. Serious crime is a specialised area. My firm in Scottish terms is one of the largest but we would not act in criminal matters except say driving offences and 1 very particular area which is directly connected to another civil specialist area.

Perhaps her practice is very niche, e.g. Agricultural, with her partner dabbling in crime (Helen)

I've no idea what Helen does ( I assumed general civil practice at the straightfwould level , ie house purchse , low level commercial property and uncomplicated wills) but that would be an odd combination of specialisms.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/04/2017 10:27

Or perhaps David will show some element of backbone and demand Pip use the money she mad from her herd as part of the compensation package, and she'll have to 'fess up that she gave it to feckless Toby

Why didn't David ask this question when Pip wanted the loan?

Why didn't Jill spot Pipsqueak was lying when she asked Jill for the loan?

Imbroglio · 15/04/2017 11:09

David and Ruth exemplify confirmation bias like nothing else.

BertrandRussell · 15/04/2017 11:46

How long has Anisha been away now? Is it remotely credible that she'd stay away so long?

redshoeblueshoe · 15/04/2017 12:40

David Rooth and Jill are blinded by the sun shining out of Pip's arse Grin

Ceto · 15/04/2017 12:46

There must surely come a time when Anisha is in breach of the terms of the partnership agreement. I know Alastair presumably wants to be supportive,, but an employee in her position would be expected either to make appropriate arrangements for her parents or resign.

"Remember how vile Ruth was when Jill dared to say she didn't want a man she loathes at her birthday tea?"
That must surely have been Ruth's finest hour in the eyes of most mumsnetters.....Grin

Yup, standing up to a MIL! MN bingo.

I recall Usha occasionally uttering the words 'It's not my field, I'll have to pass you onto someone else' though I can't say to whom or about what exactly. And some years ago she did a further course/ qualification so she could do more court work. Again no details forthcoming though I assumed it was for civil work.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/04/2017 15:29

My recollection is that Jill did think there was something amiss, but it was Carol who blithely said Pip was totally trustworthy.

Gruach · 15/04/2017 15:56

Oddly enough I've always imagined that Usha's firm was modelled on the type of firm one would find in any big city, (Birmingham rather than Felpersham, say) with innumerable staff and partners and a broad range of expertise. (Can't recall if she advised Roy and Hayley as a favour or otherwise though. )

Imbroglio · 15/04/2017 16:01

Pip has always been horrible. Maybe this storyline is intended to give her a realistic transition into being a better person.

BroomstickOfLove · 15/04/2017 16:05

I've finally caught up and am marking my place. Vaguely hoping that Pip will flee to Brighton.

redshoeblueshoe · 15/04/2017 16:16

Maybe the Pip storyline is Huge Canoe's way of saying fuck off SoC, as Soc said Pip was the future.

I hope she dies of shame Grin
