I am eagerly anticipating Pip's downfall.

There would appear to be no Catholics in Borsetshire. Quite an omission really, especially as it's so near Brum which has a big Catholic population. Though of course snot real innit.

FrancisC, you a Muss gal? One of oldest friends resides there. No links with Loretta though. (using your typo as it made me smile. A friend called Lorella was always named Loretta by my mum who just couldn't get it right!)

AuldHeathen · 17/04/2017 19:12

I've heard of Ampleforth too! Even met one of the teachers once.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 17/04/2017 19:20

What a lying little weasel Pip is and David is an idiot. If Pip's memory is so poor she forgot the dramatic dawn round up of escaped cattle she should seek urgent medical treatment.

I'm amazed that Ruth is the only one who gets the gravity of the situation.

Imbroglio · 17/04/2017 19:37

Josh was vile.

borntobequiet · 17/04/2017 19:41

Delurking to say Borsetshire (ie Worcs) full of old Catholic recusant families. Never thought of it before...even though I live in a converted Catholic chapel in the area...(hopes haven't outed self).

R4 · 17/04/2017 19:56

Pish. Ruth was making it All About Her.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 17/04/2017 20:02

Josh was vile

The whole family is vile.

I take the point Ruth was looking at it from the point of view of how can she personally face all the people they have harmed but even if it is just from her own selfish point of view she at least recognises possibly irreparable harm has been caused.

borntobequiet · 17/04/2017 20:29

On the Catholic theme, Button is a French derived surname with Catholic Buttons. So the Button family is possibly the (or one of the) Catholic families in Ambridge. But where do they go to Mass?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/04/2017 20:42

Siobhan was Catholic and there was some mention of a church back then. I can't off the top of my head remember a single other Catholic in the history of TA.

I was a regular on the BBC Archers messageboard (for obscure reasons I was never keen on calling it Mustardland) almost from the start. I thought it had gone right off by the end. Endless nitpicking with very little of the wit and lightness of touch that entranced me at the start. I much prefer the discussion here.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 17/04/2017 20:45

When Pip was being rude and sneery to Josh about his A levels last year I thought Josh was going to turn out OK - did better than Pip in her exams, decided to have a gap year in which he actually achieved something - but he's a complete and utter arse, just like the rest of them.
Poor Ben, bet he can't wait to leave.

selsigfach · 17/04/2017 20:48

Josh was vile
Only to Rex. He was spot on with Pip. Couldn't believe her cheek, trying to blame Josh. Is anyone else wondering where Rex's offer offer a shoulder to cry on could possibly lead? yawn Don't do it, Huge Canoe! You're better than that. I'm glad Anisha is back though.

borntobequiet · 17/04/2017 20:51

There are apparently many Ambridges in the USA and one in Pennsylvania (which is also a village in S. Glos, natch) (or NE Somerset, perhaps) has a Blinking Crucifix in the RC church there. But no Buttons as far as I know. Off back to my lair now.

LillianGish · 17/04/2017 20:53

I'm amazed that Ruth is the only one who gets the gravity of the situation. Ruth gets the gravity because she knows what else Pip has lied about and she has been complicit in covering up that lie so that Pip doesn't have to face the consequences. She's no doubt wondering if she had called Pip on the money from the sale of the cows and told David whether Pip would have been so careless in the first place or whether she would have owned up sooner. She can't say any of that David or David will know she lied to him - which is what they are so cross with Pip about. It is an interesting conundrum for Ruth who may very well be wondering if Pip has lied about anything else. Pip is looking as if she might have got off likely at the moment - I'm hoping the chickens will be properly coming home to roost. They have to don't they? Otherwise it's rather a weak fizzling out of an excellent storyline.

LillianGish · 17/04/2017 20:59

I also think Ruairi is at Sherbourne, but I can't remember is that because it was mentioned by name or because that was where we concluded he was being sent at the time after a similar discussion.

"Pish. Ruth was making it All About Her."

Well, to be fair, it is Quite a Lot About Her....

I feel sorry for Josh. He's always very much on his own in the sense that his parents never seem to support him or listen to him properly. They appear to expect him to fail at every turn so I'm not surprised that he's so determined to make a success of his business, though he's clearly young, inexperienced and sometimes out of his depth. Neither Ruth nor David ever offer him any advice or help. Instead he's regularly subjected to criticism and complaint and they are never challenged about their unbalanced treatment of their children. Josh hasn't given them half the grief Pip has over the last few years and she's still the golden child.

newtlover · 17/04/2017 23:09

yes, I think Pip should go round and apologise in person to the other farms- that would be taking responsibility. Not just waiting for it to blow over.

Imbroglio · 18/04/2017 03:57

I agree with you Vango about Ruth and David being rubbish parents to Josh but he is behaving in a remarkably entitled manner with people like Neil and Rex and is rude to his customers.

Re his gap year he has a deferred place. I foresee a huge row when he doesn't enrol....

IAmNotAUserNumber · 18/04/2017 07:09

vango your description of Josh is why I had high hopes for him - that he would rise above the Dopey's expectations of him and be the better person (than Pip) - but he's an obnoxious little prick.

Vango · 18/04/2017 07:47

His problem, I guess, is that Pip is currently his only role model. Be like her and he'll probably - finally - get his parents' approval!

friskybivalves · 18/04/2017 08:20

If Pip doesn't go round and apologise to the other farms, it will look even worse for her when Ed starts to reveal how long she kept schtum about the marauding Brookfield cows.

R4 · 18/04/2017 08:22

Josh is a nasty piece of work. Remember how he stole Neil's eggs and tried to pass them off as Upper Class. Remember when he tried to fleece Tony (family) with his s/h machinery. See how he has got Rex running round the countryside doing his gruntwork while Josh does ... what does Josh do exactly, apart from talk down (literally and figuratively) to people on his mobile?

Josh had, given to him on a plate, the egg business and the bee enterprise. He has squandered both those and is trying to be the DelBoy of Borsetshire. There's no way that he is going to University.

glowfrog · 18/04/2017 09:34

Yep, I think Josh is basically Toby but with a work ethic.
