Avoided a non-sweary title.

I agree with redshoes re. Ian chucking Helen under the bus rather than face the problems in his relationship with Adam. Not that that means he can't also be a nice man in many ways, and his instincts about Rob were spot on (which makes it worse in a way that he did walk away from Helen). I also think that the more we hear from the Archers themselves, the more dislikable they become. There seems to be some inverse relationship between story line real-estate allocated and their likeability. Hence the Brookfield crowd being so dreary of late - Jill, Ruth, Pip and milquetoast David. Maybe this is some kind of class-based revenge on the part of the scriptwriters - the more we see of the landowning lot, the less we can like them. Remember when Elizabeth wanted to get her mitts on the farm money? wasn't so sympatico then, was she, the greedy little madam?

Vango · 20/01/2017 13:29

Does anyone think tonight might be some kind of a set up? Has brooding Charlie, alone in Scotland, been plotting his revenge all along? Maybe it's taken him ages to track down Stefan and persuade him to return to force Rob to unmask himself?

Will Charlie will be hiding in the café tonight while Stefan records the conversation?

SingingAvocado · 20/01/2017 13:35

Ooh, is the cafe tonight Vango? Looking forward to it!

Thanks for the link Dumdedumdedum.

I was also wondering how closely related Lily and Johnny were …

enochroot · 20/01/2017 14:01

When a say 'a worthy son of Nigel' I'm thinking of Nigel's humour and kindness. He wasn't the sharpest knife in the box but he was thoroughly 'nice'.
Freddie needs a gorilla suit.

I think Ian's desertion of Helen was not in character and SOC's plot is responsible for that. Helen had to be isolated completely and Rob was intent on Ian not being godfather to Myson. Ian had to go so Rob could manipulate her all the more. The Ian as previously portrayed probably would have seen that Rob was at the back of it and stuck by her.

I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.

Just breaking cover, these threads move so fast I can rarely keep up with them and the broadcasts.... Been lurking since the trial and listening since the early 80s. May I say how nice it is to read a thread that doesn't turn into the internet equivalent of World War III just because of a difference of opinion or, heaven forfend, a typing error.

I too was always confused about cousins until I read the explanation on
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin
Basically, removed only comes into it if the subjects are different generations

Charlie Thomas is back! But he has taken a wrong turn and ended up in the TV studio filming No Offence.

MrsArthurShappey · 20/01/2017 17:10

JoeGrundy you are most welcome here Grin. Thanks for the link, always confusing!

Vango · 20/01/2017 17:45

JoeGrundy 😁 can't believe you held off posting at such a heated time!!

So. Once and for all......Lily is Johnny's second cousin once removed!Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 20/01/2017 17:49

I'm dubious about the accuracy of your name joe, your namesake would never have lurked silent for so long!Grin

DoctorTwo · 20/01/2017 18:01

Freddie must be confident in rhe size of his tackle once he's been in cold water. Skinny dipping in January is the recipe for cock shrinkage. :o

Fink · 20/01/2017 18:10

So. Once and for all......Lily is Johnny's second cousin once removed!confused

Not removed, surely, because they're the same generation. Lily's second cousin one removed would be Johnny's child.

BroomstickOfLove · 20/01/2017 18:30

No, Lilly's a generation up from Johnny. She's the same generation as John/Tom/Helen/Pip/Josh/SilentBen/Dan/Adam/Debbie/Alice and Kenton's daughter.

Johnny is the same generation as Phoebe, Henry, Jack, and Kate's other children.

Fink · 20/01/2017 18:51

This is what Broomstick posted earlier on:
'Lilly daughter of Elizabeth, daughter of Phil, son of Dan.
And Johnny, son of John son of Tony, son of Jack, son of Dan.'

If that's correct then Lily and Johnny are the same generation as each other and thus second cousins. I don't know if it is correct as I wasn't listening in the Dan Archer days and I've never been sure who his progeny are.

Fink · 20/01/2017 18:52

Sorry, ignore me. Not my day for family trees. Or counting to 4 it would appear.
