Avoided a non-sweary title.

It was unfortunate that the decision to end the friendship coincided with the escalating abuse

Of course, it wasn't a coincidence, they were victims of robs deliberate manipulation at that point.

Vango · 20/01/2017 09:41

Exactly Errol. Rob, by himself, finally succeeded in bringing the friendship to an end. Ian had fought for it but there was no longer any trust. Just saying that he didn't 'dump' Helen!

Bear in mind that Ian was not himself, reeling from the revelations and desperately trying to come to terms with the situation he found himself in.

LillianGish · 20/01/2017 09:50

Vango you are on fire this morning. Some fantastic summing up there - absolutely spot on.

Vango · 20/01/2017 09:53

😁 Lillian

Ian is the one character I can't bear to see criticised!

Butteredpars1ps · 20/01/2017 10:02

See I think Charlie was a manager straight from central casting when he arrived. SOC then developed his character to suit the ever more incredulous SL. It was just a very fuzzy transformation. Not proper baddie to hero, and so I never really got him.

Ian OTOH has more depth. Sure he can sulk for Ireland, but he broods so well.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/01/2017 10:09

I rather liked the whole party thing - assuming nothing bad happened after Ian and Adam left. Johnny being a good mate to Freddie and meeting a nice girl. Ian and Adam being concerned but un-heavy handed uncles (not sure what the exact relationship is between Adam and Frilly, but 'uncle' was the role they adopted). Ian and Adam being cheered up and out of their mire by the joy of youth. And Freddie emerging from his gloom as a true son of Nigel! Skinnydipping in that lake is probably a male Pargetter rite of passage. Grin

Vango · 20/01/2017 10:20

Says a lot about the last few years that we're all on tenterhooks waiting for something dreadful to happen. I think it's a shame. I used to love Nigel and Lizzie. Personally I'd like a few more comedic touches and a bit less doom and gloom all round.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/01/2017 11:35

Yes indeed.

Relationship of Adam to Frilly - I was trying to remember that too, so here goes..

Adam's mum is Jennifer. Her father was Jack Archer.

Frilly's mum is Elizabeth. Her father was Phil Archer, Jack's younger brother.

So Jennifer and Elizabeth are first cousins. I'm a bit hazy about cousin terminology. Let's just say Adam and Frilly are cousins several times removed.

Dumdedumdedum · 20/01/2017 11:36

Hello, am loving the new thread title, lovely to see great minds working together to produce it Grin
Agree with Vango about Ian, and more!
About last night's episode, about half way through, Lily and Phoebe (I only knew who it was because Lily mentioned her name so often, has the actress changed?) were having a discussion whilst a song was playing very loudly and I have no idea what was said. Has anyone else better hearing/comprehension than I?

Fink · 20/01/2017 11:37

If Jennifer and Elizabeth are first cousins, then their children are first cousins once removed.

MrsArthurShappey · 20/01/2017 11:37

Lily is dreadful isn't she? I'd forgotten Phoebe was going to the party, if she hadn't said Lily's name during their conversation I would have assumed Lily was talking to herself. And wtf was that with Phoebe's desperation to dance? I cannot think of a single house party I went to as a student with dancing!

MrsArthurShappey · 20/01/2017 11:38

wow x-post dum

birdsdestiny · 20/01/2017 11:50

Dum you are not wrong. The sound quality in that conversation was terrible. I had no idea what was going on.

enochroot · 20/01/2017 11:53

I think the Rob story is coming to a conclusion one way or another so that should remove some doom and gloom.
Lillian said she was going to search the front desk again for that spurious lost so I think she heard most of the convo with Stefan and will do something to disrupt the meeting in the caf on the corner on Friday - tonight.

Vango · 20/01/2017 11:53

I like Lily! She sounds like a carefree, hardworking girl who doesn't take herself too seriously. I can see why she finds Freddie exasperating at times. She was really sweet when Adam and Ian turned up.

Prepare for a Lily/Johnny pairing.

enochroot · 20/01/2017 11:57

Spurious list is what I meant.
I had trouble with Phoebe's and Lily's voices but I think Freddie is going to become a worthy son of Nigel, despite the family's belief that Lily is the Golden Child.

ppeatfruit · 20/01/2017 12:18

I love that encoh Worthy son of Nigel If I remember correctly our Nigel was an immature loon (gorilla suits etc.) for very long time before coming to his senses rather late. Doesn't bode well for poor Freddie.

I agree with Vango that Lily and Johnny may become an item.

Thanks for the new thread psuedo. I have been listening but not online and I knew that the arrival of Stefan would light up this thread|site?

ppeatfruit · 20/01/2017 12:19

Sorry enoch of course Blush

BroomstickOfLove · 20/01/2017 12:45

Are Lilly and Johnny distant enough cousins for romantic involvement, do you think? The actual common ancestor is pretty far back. Lilly daughter of Elizabeth, daughter of Phil, son of Dan.

And Johnny, son of John son of Tony, son of Jack, son of Dan.

Jack and Phil were both Dan's children, weren't they?

Dumdedumdedum · 20/01/2017 12:58

Yes, they were, Broomstick. I have no idea about the distance between cousins and cousins who are "removed". It has been explained to me as a simile to paternoster lifts but as I can't figure those out, I've got nowhere with it Grin
I've just found this, not sure if it has already been linked to on these threads, but really enjoyed it this week! Ambridge Observer 15.1.2017

Fink · 20/01/2017 13:05

Johnny and Lily are first cousins once removed, the same as Adam and Lily.

It's legal but it wouldn't go down too well in my family. You never know with the Archers.

trevortrevorslattery · 20/01/2017 13:10

Thanks for the new thread !

Vango · 20/01/2017 13:10

No, (dead) John and Lily were first cousins once removed, like Helen and Adam.

Vango · 20/01/2017 13:13

Johnny's the generation after Lily.

Fink · 20/01/2017 13:14

Sorry, I meant second cousins both times. Vango's right. I was trying to be clever and multi-task (look at me posting to MN one-handed whilst balancing ...) but failed. Blush
