Boop I've known plenty of people like that :)

Megatherium · 26/01/2017 00:33

It does vindicate what we've been saying about the finances of the turkey venture that Rex is so skint the moment he's deprived of Daddy's allowance. Which has to make you wonder why on earth they didn't work out the finances better before they started.

EBearhug · 26/01/2017 00:54

What's really sad as I've realized I'm a sad boring person like Roy as I enjoyed that BBC4 canal programme on iplayer, I like to get stuck into a spreadsheet and I drive a 50 mpg hatchback!

Me too. And I can talk about canal construction, if you want...

I think Rex does want to do something agricultural, but needs an income now, not next Christmas. I quite enjoyed Bert pushing Rex towards Anisha a bit (they might not be very different in age - he's the older brother and probably late 20s, and if she's early 30s, that's not such a gap,) and also givin Rex a chance to earn a bit of cash without making a big fuss about him being skint.

I was also amused by Anisha pointing out that Rex living with Bert wasn't really any different from Jazzer living with Jim, but Jazzer denying any similarities.

Didn't Jazzer start out in Meadow Rise?

TheAntiBoop · 26/01/2017 08:07

I got the impression that was more Toby and that Rex had it all worked out. But he just seems to live from day to day.

R4 · 26/01/2017 08:44

Rex did have it all worked out - he was a professional rugby player. That involves a lot of hard work and dedication. I can see that he might flounder for a bit after his dream was taken away from him but I cannot for the life of me understand why he has not used his skills and contact list to make a new but related career. It's unbelievable writing from the SW.
I get that TA is supposed to be about the land but if The Stables, the fishing lake, the shoot, Lower Loxley etc can make money out of land without involving farming, then why can't Rex? He could do something in the sporty/out-doorsy line like off-roading or BootCamp.
It's about time that Huge Canoe dumped the goose idea and got Rex doing something vaguely realistic.

Megatherium · 26/01/2017 08:46

BOOP for Bert inventing the bad back so Rex could earn a bit of money. What a lovely man.

Rex is struggling more than Toby financially because he's not living off his girlfriend rent free and doesn't have her £5K "investment" in his bank account.

EBearhug · 26/01/2017 08:53

I cannot for the life of me understand why he has not used his skills and contact list to make a new but related career.

Because then he wouldn't be in Ambridge, and the point of the Fairbrethren is for SOC to stir up crap from the past in a very shoe-horned-in-any-way-that's-possible-even-if-it's-not-very-credible way. HKJ is doing a good job so far on tidying up all these things, so I'm prepared to assume for now that cutting the Blossom Hill Cottage hedge might lead to a landscape gardening empire or something. Which Toby will not be part of.

R4 · 26/01/2017 08:53

I'm not sure if Rex is struggling or if he is being prudent to prolong whatever money he has. If he's not fairly flush straight after Christmas then he never will be.

TheAntiBoop · 26/01/2017 08:57

You're right that it is odd because there seems to have been no firm idea of what they were going to do other than ruffle Brookfield feathers

If we end up with odd job Rex and gin millionaire Toby I will be mighty pissed off. Especially as I don't think the gun idea is anything other than niche and it would be unrealistic For him to make mega bucks out of it

R4 · 26/01/2017 09:02

The landscape gardening empire idea could be interesting - if, after all Bert has done for them, they do him out of his pension-top-up job ...
Lots of scope for dramatic tension there.

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 09:12

I'm going to start an "I LOVE ROY" fan club, Grin he's not boring just a regular chap who is not a fool wanting to "stay young". He's lucky to be rid of an idiot like Traceee.

LillianGish · 26/01/2017 09:12

It's about time that Huge Canoe dumped the goose idea and got Rex doing something vaguely realistic. Perhaps he could organise kayaking and outdoor pursuits on the river Am Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 26/01/2017 09:20

I expect once Tracy was out of the car, Roy would have turned his radio back to his real preferred choice - sensible chap like him would surely be on R4 mostly?Grin

LillianGish · 26/01/2017 09:23

I'm going to start an "I LOVE ROY" fan club You and Kirsty too I suspect. I'd say the SWs are definitely going out of their way to make him appear more attractive and endearing (and was also adamant that he didn't want a relationship with anyone with children).

BroomstickOfLove · 26/01/2017 09:24

I also don't understand why he doesn't have a personal trainer qualification and get a steady income from working part time at Grey Gables and having a few private clients, and spend the rest of the time on poultry or whatever agricultural thing he wants to do.

Minimammoth · 26/01/2017 09:24

My wish list for Huge Canoe is:
Def get the Fairbretheren on to a realistic footing. Clarify their finances.
Sort out BRIGHTON.
Send Pip to use her farming genius somewhere far away, a la Debbie.
Bring back Debbie.
There are others but I need to workSmile

ErrolTheDragon · 26/01/2017 09:33

I doubt bringing back Debbie is within his gift, unfortunately.

Megatherium · 26/01/2017 09:38

Quote from 12th January:

"Are we going to have a willy-waving competition now between Kenton and David as to which of them gets their respective twin through the driving test first?"

Mystic Mega strikes!

archersfan22 · 26/01/2017 09:43

I was hoping we were going to have a nice awkward situation with Anisha and the horse (all goes wrong and horse owner sues her) to illustrate the difficulties in professional boundaries when you live and work in a small community (I speak from experience).
But no, it's turned into Saint Anisha saves the cute fluffy horse....

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/01/2017 09:47

I fear the Bearfrothers (or Rex, at least) are here for the long haul.

It is clear that we are being set up for a s/l in which Rex and Anisha get together, whereupon Pip realises it's him she's lurved all along. Eventually - and they could string this out for years - they will wed and produce the next generation of Archer-Fairbrothers. I am sure that Pip, Toebee and their progeny are destined to be the next First Family of Brookfield. Sad

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/01/2017 09:50

Oh, well done Mega!

Here, have a Mystic Boreâ„¢ Crystal Ball Award ...

Ta da! 🔮

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 10:14

Broomstick That doesn't sound like Roy at all, 'personal trainer"do you reckon he needs to improve his pecs and abs? He's got more sense. Also that would really turn on Traceee!!!

Ref. the Fairbrothers' finances, there are people who walk blindly into 'dream' jobs without the slightest thought about finances. At least they DID have support from their dad.

BroomstickOfLove · 26/01/2017 10:23

Oh, did I type Roy? I meant Rex.

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 10:31

Sorry I've lost your post broom Blush You probably didn't mention him by name and I'm becoming Roy fixated Grin
