The way I heard it, they carefully took the time to mention Latif's daughter's eighteenth birthday party in order to dispel any listener suspicion that he might be Charlie not even trying to sound different love interest for Adam. That's how simply their minds work.

I think they did it so Adam dismisses him as straight but then it turns out he is in the closet and had an arranged marriage (insert further cultural stereotype in here) blah blah
