It's a bit odd for Ursula to want to live at the crime scene. Grey Gables would surely be more suitable although Bruce probably wouldn't sanction the cost

Marchate · 10/04/2016 22:46

Did the police do a sweep for hidden cameras/bugging devices? Spyware on computers used by Helen? They knew he was tracking her phone

Wolpertinger · 10/04/2016 22:46

Davros I'd be suprised if Rob adapted to his stoma as well as you did. There's evidence that people who have them for inflammatory bowel disease cope with them better, presumably because they have had years of hideous symptoms, than those who get them very suddenly.

And for Rob it would always be a reminder of how he wasn't the perfect man and was now 'pooing in a bag' - and had been made to by a woman.

I don't think Rob can cope with anything much that he isn't in control of, he'd be a terrible patient. Although I can see him attracting a replacement woman to feel sorry for him and mop his brow sadly. After all, he can't make his own custard, can he?

Swirlingasong · 10/04/2016 22:51

Being sympathetic, I'd say that in a hotel she wouldn't have access to a kitchen so would have to eat alone in a restaurant or live on takeaways. She'd also have to regularly interact with others which she may well not want to do. Also she may wish to 'm rep the house nice' for when he comes home....

Unsympathetically, staying there means she has control of the space and acts as gatekeeper to Helen and Henry's possessions and prevents the Archers finding anything of Rob's that might be incriminating.

GreenGoose21 · 10/04/2016 22:53

I know I'm probably clutching at straws a little, but Knob's scar is playing on my mind. I mustn't have been listening when it first got mentioned, and so I don't know where/what it is. But what if he'd pulled some version of the knife stunt before. ..on Jess? It would fit his modus operandi, tormenting her, giving her a knife, and then blaming her when he got a 'defensive injury'....allowing more and more control.

Davros · 10/04/2016 22:55

I didn't get mine because of inflammatory bowel disease. I had a major operation and that was part of the outcome.

glowfrog · 10/04/2016 22:58

Fingers crossed, Jiffy!

Green I think Jess would have told Helen if she had been driven to try and stab him?

It's just a bit odd that no one is asking where Bruce is and why Ursula is on her own.

LowDudgeon · 10/04/2016 22:59

Thanks for the title of this thread, Pseudo

I backed away somewhat when Nigel fell off the roof but kept in arms-length touch.

This has really properly done it for me though. After 30 years I'm out of here.

Shame.

R4 · 10/04/2016 23:06

I agree goose. Let's hope that Jess read the Sunday papers.

Davros · 10/04/2016 23:14

Jess could be key to show Helen was feeling abused and was right!

2rebecca · 10/04/2016 23:21

I don't think I can face months of legal wrangling Knob v Helen. Seriously tedious. Is 13 minutes of sensational stabbing really worth months of boredom of the "he said" "she said" variety? Why on earth did they think her stabbing him was a good idea and that the endless court case afterwards would be early evening entertainment for months to come?

2rebecca · 10/04/2016 23:22

Surely any colostomy Rob gets will be temporary as he hasn't had his rectum removed.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 10/04/2016 23:25

Place marking!

Shallishanti · 10/04/2016 23:29

maybe Rob's next victim will be a nurse who looks after him in hospital Sad

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 10/04/2016 23:35

When will Tom phone the chicken suppliers? It won't gelp the case but might help convince Tony. I take it T and P don't yet know he was tracking her.

MassiveStrumpet · 10/04/2016 23:36

Hello! This is my first post in an Archers thread.

I have always wondered how on earth anyone could get into this show. It's hard enough to pick up a soap on the telly mid-stream but without faces to go with the voices I thought it would be impossible to take up The Archers!

I've heard about this story line in the media.

Today I had a long drive and I turned on Radio 4. I just happened to tune in to the program about five minutes before she stabbed him. (I recognized what it was because I knew "Helen stabbed Rob" from the news.) Anyway, I listened to the whole thing and I liked it! I was pretty much able to follow along. I realised that they make a point of saying one another's names a lot so I could figure out who people were.

One person I would like to know more about: who is the friendly, silly cashier lady who talks a lot and said something about having been in a minimum security prison? What's HER story?

2rebecca · 10/04/2016 23:38

Susan the village gossip married to neil the pig man. The more you listen the less you want to hear about her. Mrs Daily Mail caricature.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 10/04/2016 23:43

Remember when the doctor Richard came back and when he met Rob he said he was sure he recognised him from somewhere???

Pretty significant I reckon. If I was Richard and heard what happened I'd be thinkimg hard about where I'd seen Rob before...

ColdTeaAgain · 10/04/2016 23:44

Very disappointed in all the men in tonight's episode except Tom. Tony wasn't even coming across as being all that sympathetic to Henry fgs!

2rebecca · 10/04/2016 23:45

With the Rob story they'd have been better ending it by having Rob get interested in another opinionated woman and drifting away from Helen like he drifted away from Jess once he'd turned her in to a shadow of herself.
He's not really interested in fathering a child as otherwise he'd have been pleased when Jess thought she was pregnant by him so staying with Helen for the sprog didn't make sense and he despises women once they are under his control and looks for new ones.
It could all have been so much better.

AugustaFinkNottle · 10/04/2016 23:58

Girl, I don't think that is particularly significant. It was what was subsequently admitted to be a mistake on the part of the SWs, when they belatedly remembered that Dr Locke had met Rob when he did the paternity test but it didn't occur to them that no doctor would really risk breaking confidentiality like that. Helen knew all about the paternity test, Jess accepts that Rob isn't the father, so it appears to be a blind alley.

Davros · 10/04/2016 23:59

2rebecca absolutely agree with your post above. Surely it could be arranged to have Rob's rectum removed, he's got no balls already! Tom made sense when he caked him a bully, it's a good description of what outsiders could have seen

Davros · 10/04/2016 23:59

Called!

EBearhug · 11/04/2016 00:40

Susan was originally a Horrobin, a family of not great repute. She escaped by marrying Neil Carter (although still living down the road from all her family isn't entirely an escape.) She spent a lot of effort in trying to better herself, and Neil is usually on hand to stop her getting too excessive in her social climbing attempts (which we hear about from time to time for comic effect.)

Anyway, about 2 decades ago, her brother Clive held up the post office at gun point and held some villagers hostage. Susan sheltered him for a bit before he was caught, and she went down for it. Can't remember all the details. I think it was round the time I was finishing uni and settling into my first job, so early to mid-'90s.

She is a massive gossip. But unlike most of the rest of the world, I quite like her as a character - she can be quite entertaining. She'd be a right nightmare to live with or nearby, though.

mummytime · 11/04/2016 06:04

Oh I just remembered something that I hope will be significant. During the Bridge Farm dialogue last night, where was Henry? With Jazzer!
Wouldn't it be great if Jazzer listened to him and realised what he was saying was important. I can imagine Jazzer as being one of those people who can give small children a lot of time and attention.
