Maybe Rob has a little book of passwords locked in the desk like my twunt ex used to? And if I remember rightly he was a bit funny about the desk and locked the cheque book in there too. Or perhaps The Little Book Of Control by Robert Titchener will be found semi complete on his hard drive? A bit like The Little Book of Calm but fewer clouds and more coercive methods of evilness.

Regardless, I reckon he's going to have been fiddling the figures at the shop if not outright stealing because he can't bear to fail and is so arrogant he wouldn't even think of it as stealing but rather more "taking my due".

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 11/04/2016 15:50

Lol at phones from Felpersham Uni. Felp phones. Like an iPhone but adaptable to whatever plot device is required.

glowfrog · 11/04/2016 16:04

Hahaha re: phones.

Though my much-loved Windows phone has some strong words for you, Dad. Grin

glowfrog · 11/04/2016 16:04

But ooh, yes, maybe something interesting will be found in that drawer!

Elendon · 11/04/2016 16:14

Re the fact the police were able to see Rob's phone history. Didn't Rob say to Helen to check his phone and that's how she got in contact with Jess?

Not everyone has a password on their phone. I guess Rob didn't.

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/04/2016 16:18

Sounds like it's not up to much, even as a police procedural.

I bought the Mail on Sunday Blush yesterday and guess what there is a Relevant Article in the supplementy bit. Tim Stimpson is quoted as saying:

"Radio is intimate. It can infiltrate our lives in much the same way that Rob has infiltrated Helen's. The fact that The Archers is a daily story means we hear each tiny nuance and turn of the screw in real time."

As Helen would say: "No comment."

The piece (which is on the whole very good, I think) ends with an interview with someone who has escaped DV.

"She is also a loyal Archers listener: 'When I hear Rob's tight voice saying, "Darling, I only want what;s best for you," I want to scream,' she says, 'but I think it's brought the issue to life brilliantly. I'm hanging on in there to hear Helen get away.'"

EmilyDickinson · 11/04/2016 16:20

I suspect that Ursula is busy tidying away any evidence of coercive control. Glad the police got to the phones first.

When are we going to get Shula saying, "Actually Rob could be violent so it might have been self defence." It's got to prey on her conscience surely? Tony and Shula are first cousins I think.

Who might she confide in about it? Not Alistair (he doesn't seem to be around any moreWink). Not Alan (she knows what he'd say - tell the truth). I think that Jill would say the same.

My betting is either Elizabeth or Daniel. I think Daniel would insist that she went to the police. I'm not sure what Elizabeth would say.

enochroot · 11/04/2016 16:29

Shula needs to talk to Jim. Jim has been treated to the full force of Rob's nastiness twice now so he has no illusions that Rob is Mr Nice Guy.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/04/2016 16:29

Shula will confide in the Lockster.

Re phone. Rob took Hs phone when she was in hospital but I tjink he had form for appearing as if magic before that.

Did Hel leave her phone behind when she met Jess.

And yy in DA threads on MN when they leave if they are in a place of safety women ate advised to remove the battery from their phone then change their number (although keep text messages and emails pref in a separate folder as evidence).

Again they coukd have played this out dramatically. Helen leaving. Robsayung I know where you are. Bomvarding her with texts and calls. All this would be far more pkausible.

Re. Tracking apps. I can track my phone and my kids'. Howevet there was a duaturbing thread on MN where the nsdh had put a recording app on his wife's phobe that recorded audio every half hour and/or anytime someone spoke. It was very, very creepy. Up until she foubd all the recordings she thought everything was fine.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/04/2016 16:30

Oh ffs. Totally forget to correct that one^

EmilyDickinson · 11/04/2016 16:38

I don't know whether Helen took her phone when she went to meet Jess, but her cover story was that she and Pat took Henry to soft play in Felpersham and that Helen went for a walk all of which she could tell Rob and her phone wouldn't contradict her.

I wish that after she'd spoken to Jess, which seemed to be the moment when she decided to leave, she'd returned to the soft play, suggested to Pat that they had another cup of tea whilst Henry was playing and just told her about Rob's abuse. As other posters have said, she'd only have to tell Pat that Rob had hit her and raped her to have Pat completely onside.

Henry and Helen could have gone back to Bridge Farm with Pat. Helen could have reported Rob to the police and Tom, Jazzer and Johnny could have gone to BHC to collect clothes for Helen and Henry. It could have been so different.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 11/04/2016 16:49

Shula may tell Dorothy who being a naice Christian girl will tell her she must bear witness. Or something religious-y

EmilyDickinson · 11/04/2016 16:51

Hope this works, link to Ambridge Observer's account of last week. Spot on with PC Harrison's dubious crime solving skills.

AugustaFinkNottle · 11/04/2016 17:09

Tim Stimpson is quoted as saying: "Radio is intimate. It can infiltrate our lives in much the same way that Rob has infiltrated Helen's. The fact that The Archers is a daily story means we hear each tiny nuance and turn of the screw in real time."

I don't get that. How can it be real time on 13 minutes a day?

I bet the other SWs are well pissed of that Tim Stimpson's getting all the glory.

Looobieloo · 11/04/2016 17:13

We've had Pat having quite a long conversation with Kirsty, haven't we - when they took Henry for the interview?

I must have missed that Augusta. I struggled with last week's episodes. I need some courage to LA. Sad

JessieMcJessie · 11/04/2016 17:18

Did anyone tell the new listener poster who asked about Susan's backstory why she went to prison?

glowfrog · 11/04/2016 17:20

Enoch what happened with Rob and Jim?

R4 · 11/04/2016 17:44

Did anyone tell the new listener poster who asked about Susan's backstory why she went to prison?

Yes. EBear at 00:40 this morning. "Susan sheltered [fugitive Clive] for a bit before he was caught, and she went down for it."

enochroot · 11/04/2016 17:53

When Charlie insisted that Rob step up as a manager and show the public round the digester Rob was really inarticulate and badly prepared. Jim kept asking awkward questions. Afterwards Rob snarled at Jim very nastily indeed.
Then last year at the open air opera he rounded on Jim again as well as Linda.

DadDadDad · 11/04/2016 17:53

The 298th post on this thread qualifies as the 53,000th in this series of threads. So take it away, next poster...

Was it only last week that we marked the 50,000th? Shock

I think TS meant something like "hearing Hel - Rob in every episode" - but with 13 min a day in TA's case, the glory of radio drama is hearing about what's going on by listening in on an ensemble of people.

The Rob - Hel story infiltrated my life in a way that had me switching off. Now the stabbing. I don't say this lightly, and I am known for Taking Things Too Seriously, but I feel a little abused. After a long EA marriage I walked away. It feels like TA has overstepped a boundary of trust with the listener, and so I'm walking away from it.

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/04/2016 18:03

Rats! Should have refreshed, then I might have posted that tiny fraction earlier.
