Rob - dead? No, no, he's, er, resting. He's just pining for the Canadian plains. As Helen is taken into custardy, discuss the Archers here.

That would be great Augusta

I really do think the pie is key to all this and it will raise BH to the ground, destroying any evidence which could vindicate Hel. I told DH about it and he said not to worry, they've probably got a fancy oven like ours which turns itself off when it's finished cooking. I said we know they haven't because of the previous toad in the hole debacle. I mean, surely all these little details the SL throw in will lead to something? They wouldn't waste our time and destroy their own credibility by building up a picture of a character pie, only to either forget it ever happened or completely rewrite it for the sake of a style dramatic climax??? Especially one that EE already did 20 yrs ago with Little Mo - would they?

Happy Birthday Pseudo 🎂

Twas my birthday yesterday and I insisted that we didn't go out for dinner until after 7.15 as I had to hear it. We then discussed it over dinner! It was quite a tear inducing episode for me.

But Peggy..! I stopped being shocked/upset to shout FFS at the radio.

Would Henry have been given to rellies to be looked after in this sort of scenario? Do children get asked what happened? I truly don't know.

Duckdeamon · 05/04/2016 08:17

Really bad handling of the storyline, in particular that the abuse victim stabbed the abuser. Far, far more likely that he'd hurt her if he realised she was planning to leave. Or that she successfully left, perhaps after a few attempts. Followed by further abuse eg over care of the DC.

Or would none of those possibilities be dramatic enough?!

Lilipot15 · 05/04/2016 08:18

Happy Birthday Pseudo.
I'm a very rare poster as I am usually so far behind but have done lots of driving this week and catching up. I enjoy your thread titles and the discussions more than the episodes sometimes Grin

AugustaFinkNottle · 05/04/2016 08:18

Absolutely they'd have got relatives in to look after Henry unless they thought the relatives might be involved in any way. Listening again, I do think it's a pity they didn't manage to get a bit more emotion out of Henry actor - I doubt any 5 year old seeing his mother that upset would simply show minor curiosity about where Mummy was going.

I too woke up worrying about Helen. Now I'm wondering what sort of day Henry will have. And how long it will be before Adam and Ian hear what's happened.

Northernlurker · 05/04/2016 08:18

Shula was always the Saint, as in St Shula the Martyr
Lizzie was Lizard but I can't remember why
Jennifer was usually Jenny Darling.

So that's two out of three that still apply!

Radio Carter was my favourite though

I'm finding it hard to keep up (with the thread not TA). I think Knob could still die (to save the SW the bother of having to write the fall out and take account of him for years to come). Hard to imagine at the moment, but he could pass into the archive of Archers baddies and in years to come people will be coming on the thread saying "Can anyone remind me about Helen's ex?" In the same we do do about Simon Pemberton et al. I also think (and I've said this before) it's not out of the question that Knob will have some previous we don't know about - the reason he quickly backtracked on wanting adopt Henwee when he realised it would require detailed background checks. Have to step in to defend DDD too (not that he needs it) - can't believe no one has suggested a pie chart Grin. Don't be too harsh on Words - I seem to recall sending Flowers following a revelation about her Ursula-like ex MIL. This thread probably is a bit cliquey - some of us have been here for years, chewing the fat at the pace of the old-style Archers. I've always found it to be the the friendliest thread on MN though. Hope that won't change.

Lilipot15 · 05/04/2016 08:20

I was also wondering if the call Helen made to the charity can be traced back to her phone and then a statement made by the volunteer. No idea. Hopefully someone on this thread will know!

Imaginethis · 05/04/2016 08:21

Newish poster here loving these threads.

Kingscote: thank you for the Guardian link. I'd welcome a return to the jeopardy on jam making (?) and maybe some clues as to why my mincemeat went mouldy last year. The hand of Christine or maybe I should try another thread.

By the way, where do I find dv3's stats?

Northernlurker · 05/04/2016 08:23

And Tom was the Sausage King

EBearhug · 05/04/2016 08:23

it seems odd that events in therealoutside world don't enter their awareness

You do occasionally get topical inserts in TA, which other soaps don't. The BBC is meant to be neutral, so they'Re unlikely ever to have them sat round talking about the pros and cons of the EU referendum, but we might get a TI the day after the results.

I think we had about as much as we could take of Daniel at Sandhurst and Phoebe's Oxford application, even if it was mostly Jenny going on about it. We are saved a lot of interactions by only having 12 minutes a day to fit it all in.

(Depending on your settings, you will see the OP's posts and your own as highlighted. Other people won't see yours as highlighted, only you see that.)

Northernlurker · 05/04/2016 08:24

Here's a nasty thought - Ursula heard Helen say 'I'll kill him' a couple of weeks ago when the school thing came up. She'll be straight to the police with that won't she?

Kr1stina · 05/04/2016 08:25

If they had an aga, there would be no problem with the pie . The Aga stays on all the time and the pie just turns to charcoal

And the toad in the hole wouldn't have burned either.

Just saying

EBearhug · 05/04/2016 08:26

I do think it's a pity they didn't manage to get a bit more emotion out of Henry actor - I doubt any 5 year old seeing his mother that upset would simply show minor curiosity about where Mummy was going.

Don't forget they record him separately away from everything else. They'd probably have a few ethical issues around inducing the right amount of hysteria in him that the scene really warranted!

BertrandRussell · 05/04/2016 08:27

Why on earth isn't Peggy allowed to be worried and concerned and want to know what's going on when there are police and ambulances outside her grand daughter's house? It's awful and so unfair to put her in the "gawper" category!

And of course they'd have put Helen in handcuffs- she appears to be dangerous and unstable and to have just nearly killed someone- would you want to sit in police car with her unrestrained?

Duckdeamon · 05/04/2016 08:30

There are echoes of the Little Mo hitting Trevor with the iron in Eastenders, which was also a badly handled abuse storyline ending IMO.

WannaBe · 05/04/2016 08:32

IMO the fact she stabbed him causes complications. IN casualty some years ago one of the characters was in an abusive relationship - proper violence, and she pushed him down the stairs one night as he tried to go for her. He spent some weeks in hospital and then died iirc but she wasn't charged because it was self defence.

There's no way this could be upheld as self defence - ever. In fact it would be unrealistic to even think that she wouldnt' go to prison for this.

What they should have done is have Henry run up the stairs to get away from rob, have rob go after him and when Helen tried to stop him he try to grab her and her pushing him off balance down the stairs... ... Deaded. and the abuse would be seen as mitigation.

It's a bit of a dangerous road to go down to suggest that emotional abuse could be seen as mitigation for stabbing someone multiple times.

I think that Rob will die. Helen will go to jail, Tom and Kirsty will get back together and will raise Henry and the baby. And Helen will just disappear when the new editor comes on the scene.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/04/2016 08:33

I have the feeling that Peggy, who thinks the sun shines out of Knob's fundament, is going to be v judgemental and it will take a long time, if ever, for her to understand what Hells has been through.

Imaginethis the stats are buried in the threads - although perhaps D^3 should publish them somewhere Grin

Imbroglio · 05/04/2016 08:34

I agree Helen could go to jail.

Happy Birthday pseudo.

I was looking back to see when these threads started (Apr 24 2013) and found a thread called My ears! My ears! Helen and Rob... First post said "this is not going to end well."
We are such perceptive little bunnies.Smile

BYOSnowman · 05/04/2016 08:43

Agree Bertrand - it's her family!!

Regarding cliquey thread - I lurked for a while and then started commenting but felt a bit awkward at first. Once you get into it though you just become part of it
