Rob - dead? No, no, he's, er, resting. He's just pining for the Canadian plains. As Helen is taken into custardy, discuss the Archers here.

Grrrrrr. Massive spoiler thread title Angry

elpth · 05/04/2016 08:47

It's been broadcast and is all over the media so it isn't a spoiler. There's a separate thread for that

BeaufortBelle · 05/04/2016 08:48

Happy birthday Cake

Am getting ready to go to London today. Have to be back for 7pm.

EmilyDickinson · 05/04/2016 08:49

Listened again just now. I'm sure that Helen sounded horrified and disbelieving when Kirsty said that Rob was still breathing, "No, no, he can't be!" I think that perhaps she really did want to kill him as it was the only way she felt she'd ever escape him. She kept saying, "He made me choose." Does she mean choose between killing herself and killing him?

Wheresthattomoibabber · 05/04/2016 08:49

I can't be the only person that just listens on Sundays?

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/04/2016 08:50

Hardly a spoiler when the episode has already been broadcast.

(Love the Brizzle name, moibabber Grin )

R4 · 05/04/2016 08:50

We are very hot on spoilers wheresthat. Spoilers are not allowed but once an episode has been aired then it's open season - it is impossible to make allowances for people who are behind in their listening.
It's an unusual case at the moment because plots, and therefore threads, are moving so fast. Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 08:50

You can't stab someone multiple times in self defence. It would never stand up in court. Self defence must be a reasonable amount of force to stop someone doing whatever it is they're doing. One stab wound would have worked.

More likely to be able to plead loss of self control

EBearhug · 05/04/2016 08:51

I think by making her take the knife, he made her choose which of them to use it on.

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 08:51

I think so Emily - she definitely sounded like she wanted him to be dead.

Which causes difficulties for the defence too maybe?

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 08:52

Ie can't be manslaughter if you intended to kill (if he dies)

EBearhug · 05/04/2016 08:53

I can't be the only person that just listens on Sundays?

If you only listen on Sundays - as I did for many years - you avoid the threads. You can't expect people not to discuss it till then. And as has been pointed out, this has been all over the media, so you would have to be living in a cave to have missed it.

Wheresthattomoibabber · 05/04/2016 08:54

I know I am being totally unreasonable but I had managed to avoid all media mentions until then! Will listen with DD when she gets up. She's 12 and so addicted she downloads it to listen to when she's running

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/04/2016 08:55

This is a very minor moan but for those of us who fundamentally and deeply object to see if pictures of the actors presented as though hey are the characters themselves, is there any way MN could replace the pic that accompanies the 'I was a real life Helen' promo on every single bloody page at the mo?
It's bad enough seeing them plastered all over the papers.

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/04/2016 08:55

*seeing

Pipbin · 05/04/2016 08:56

I can't be the only person that just listens on Sundays?

You clearly have Internet access. Iplayer is your friend.

glamorousgrandmother · 05/04/2016 09:00

Hi! Another lurker outing myself here! I accidentally started following the threads a while back but haven't commented. I love the humour and witty observations. I also started listening to TA again after a long break.

LillianGish · 05/04/2016 09:01

I'm hoping Miles might turn up to paint a different picture of their brotherly relationship - perhaps Knob bullied him as a small child, even attacked him. Knob's dad could turn up and have an entirely different perspective to Ursula - accuse Ursula of always indulging him, sympathise with Hellin, mutter how he's surprised it didn't happen sooner. These are characters only hinted at so far and only from Knob's perspective - plenty of potential there I would have thought. Would make more sense of the dinner party no-show.

Vango · 05/04/2016 09:03

Jenny - when I first saw pictures of the cast I was disappointed. None matched the person I'd imagined. I see them now and for me the represent only the person 'playing' the character, not the character itself, hence they no longer bother me. Radio Drama, I believe, is the absolute jewel in the BBCs crown. There's nothing like it, anywhere. The afternoon play's the same - often I know who the actors are but the pictures in my head are still entirely my own. And to pick up on an earlier point you made - the Archers is a Radio Drama, I only use 'soap' as a shorthand on this thread Wink

Kr1stina · 05/04/2016 09:04

For those of you complaining that the thread title is a spoiler - you might like to know that you can hide threads or even entire topics.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/04/2016 09:08

Wheresthattomoibabber has acknowledged that she IBU so all's well and she will have a lovely unscheduled catchup today Smile

And welcome glamorousgrandmother and all the other delurkers!

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/04/2016 09:13

Vango - I remember back in the distant mists of time when I used to post on / lurk on the early TA threads, someone once said (when talking about the BBC TA website character pages) something along the lines of 'who are all these random imposters and why are they pretending, when we all know that's not what David/Ruth/Linda/etc all look like?' Grin summed it up for me and I've always thought the same since then. These faces have nothing to do with the characters themselves, I know what Helen and Rob look like, and it's not like that ....
(PS. Whoever posted the pic of the baddie from Frozen yesterday and called him Rob, Star for you! Much more accurate)

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 05/04/2016 09:17

Lovely to read your posts again LillianG Flowers

glowfrog · 05/04/2016 09:20

Jessie very belated thank you - I'd gone to bed. Smile

EasyToEatTiger · 05/04/2016 09:25

As so many people have pointed out, there are masses of loose ends. Was Helen aware that Rob punched a hunt photographer? Will it dawn on Tom that it was Rob who jeopardised his marriage? Was Stephan fed to the pigs? I think that bit by bit, it will all start to unravel and Interpol will be involved in village life. They haven't had a canabis farm in Borchester yet, or is there one steaming away, waiting for Harrison to pounce?
