I think Mumsnet wants to stop talking about Jess. I've been trying to post this all afternoon! A final word about Jess and consistency (sorry BYOS). When Jess turned up drunk on Valentine's night her words to Helen (who had just told her that she and Rob were 'in love') were "Well good luck with that Helen, you have no idea what you've taken on". A few days later, when asked directly by Helen, Rob admitted that he'd been to visit Jess. That he'd done it because she'd threatened suicide (he mentioned Greg!); that Jess had taken an overdose before (following a child-related incident at work) which is why they'd moved to Canada. He finished his little speech expressing his upset/disappointment that Helen had allowed Jess to 'poison her thoughts against him'. Helen apologised of course. I'm happy to infer from the few scenes we've heard that there'd been similar levels of gaslighting and abuse in that relationship.

Pipbin · 03/04/2016 19:52

Not good at all.
She should have run away and show how hard it is to get away from an abuser. How she needs to talk round her family. How she needs to battle in the courts to prevent him having access to Henry.

AugustaFinkNottle · 03/04/2016 19:53

She won't necessarily be prosecuted. I can see a scenario where Knob decides to say nothing and use it to keep a hold over her. Or else goes all magnanimous and says he's sure it's because of her "illness" and gets her sectioned or something.

Alicekeach · 03/04/2016 19:55

Delurking to say that I think SOC has been reading the case of R v Thornton....

firesidechat · 03/04/2016 19:55

I take it there were no witnesses apart from a 5 year old child? If that's the case we are in for a terrible few months and I for one will not be listening to it. Rob will survive and be all charming and manipulative in the court case and it will be HORRIBLE. Only Kirsty and Jess seem to know what has really been going on and there is the prospect of Pat still thinking Helen is unwell and Rob is a saint. Unbearable!

SealSong · 03/04/2016 19:56

Yes quite Pipbin. We've only had half of the story of domestic abuse portrayed, not the long drawn out after effects.

glowfrog · 03/04/2016 19:56

I have no words. No words that aren't angry ones, anyway. I can only hope he's not actually dead. That was a really really poor choice of an ending.

PseudoBadger · 03/04/2016 19:58

Well I've listened now. I reckon they'll go all out for the cover up. Patio, fed to the pigs, acid in the bath.

And now I've got into a discussion on Twitter with someone who's clearly been gaslighted by SOC and KD, about how this is so unrealistic. No good for my BP..

Putthetulipsthere · 03/04/2016 19:59

Just remembered that the actress who played Helen seemed to imply in one of her interviews that Rob is around for a while.

Not that makes the story line any better. Either way Helen has been well & truly set up by Knob, no one will believe her side of the story and it underlines that the most important factor for SOC is headlines & audience numbers. I really don't see how tonight's events help current victims of DA

PseudoBadger · 03/04/2016 20:00

Augusta - like your theory about Knob getting Helen sectioned.

Maybe it's not too late to petition the SWs to change the ending? They could use that clunky technique they use to add something in at the last moment when something serious in RL has happened.

NotnowNigel · 03/04/2016 20:01

What a total abdication of all responsibility. That's the end of any claim to public service broadcasting through this SL. I'm very very disappointed. What idiots they are.

I've listened to TA for over 30 years and I'm disgusted with them. To any woman out there who is suffering abuse please don't believe your only way out is murder. You CAN leave. You do NOt have to confront the abuser. You can wait until they're out and just go.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/04/2016 20:03

SOC's swansong has turned into a massive great turkey.

And thanks Vango for the reminder of what happened with Jess - your recall is excellent

Will someone think of the pie??? Its still in the oven!! Shock

campocaro · 03/04/2016 20:05

Onemore Its called a 'topical insert'. I'm hoping Helen set the whole thing up and has it recorded on her phone.

RomComPhooey · 03/04/2016 20:06

I'm hoping Helen set the whole thing up and has it recorded on her phone.

Demonstrating premeditation?

RomComPhooey · 03/04/2016 20:06

PS I am not an Archers fan, but I like Badger's thread titles.

GrumpyOldBag · 03/04/2016 20:07

she's going to regret saying "I'll kill him" a couple of weeks back at the party with Pat & Ursula.

OneMoreStepAroundTheBendIGo · 03/04/2016 20:07

Bore, I'd say a Fairbrother goose rather than a Grundy turkey
