Can we ask the police to listen to it on iPlayer?

And I was so hoping for an episode that I could listen to and cheer at. This may be the end of TA for me. Angry

Theleavesonthetrees · 03/04/2016 19:40

Quit putthetulips, SW have got lots of good publicity out of the public service they are doing with this storyline, only to blow it like this.
Would have been so much better another way.
I don't care if he is dead or not. It still changes the focus from Rob's abuse and how to get the strength to leave, to 'is Helen a crazy lady or not'.

kippersyllabub · 03/04/2016 19:40

Yesterday do you thing i should hang on to my downloads of earlier episodes in case they're needed as evidence

R4 · 03/04/2016 19:40

Will SOC be on the Today programme tomorrow morning and let slip whether Rob is dead/not dead, just like VW did.

GigotdAgneau · 03/04/2016 19:41

Indeed, BertrandRussell and PinaGrigio. TFASWAFMA.

BeaufortBelle · 03/04/2016 19:41

If you were leaving a manipulative nut like Knobbo, why on earth would you cook dinner first and not just skedaddle? Kirsty's nature would have been to hang around in the garden anyway. It just is.

A pot of steaming bolleaux, with knob on.

PseudoBadger · 03/04/2016 19:42

Don't worry I'm here...

If she stabbed him at all then she will be charged, and probably tried, which I can't muster interest in listening to. Even if it's self-defence plea. & highlights this law.

Meh. I just read a book of real life injustices, don't have any appetite to listen to a fictional account.

MrsCampbellBlack · 03/04/2016 19:44

So all along they've said they have consulted with WA and Refuge. So how common is it for women in this situation to snap like Helen?

Vango · 03/04/2016 19:44

Rob (who won't be dead!) has done everything in his power to cover his tracks. Didn't Helen recently tell the psychiatrist that she tried to hit him? Haven't Rob and Ursula told Pat & Tony that Henry's afraid of his Mummy? Didn't Rob tell the Boarding School that there were problems at home? All the evidence will be in his favour. She's got a mountain to climb to undo the work she's done convincing everyone how marvellous he is. Our only hope is a dead Stefan with evidence implicating Rob.

YesterdayOnceMore · 03/04/2016 19:45

Why was the ending so rushed anyway? That has annoyed me as much as what actually happened.

Even if they wanted to end it in a stabbing, we should have had a Kirsty helping Helen plotting to leave (and how to do it- ie the useful advice from MN on things like getting financial details and moving money into her account, getting birth certificates and passports etc). We should have had all of that, even if that ended up in him catching her in the act and her stabbing him.

I must admit, there was a point when I though he'd stabbed Henry and I was quite shocked. Possibly more realistic if he'd (accidentally?) killed Henry and then Helen and himself. Do many abused women actually kill their husbands? We don't hear about it?

PinaGrigio · 03/04/2016 19:46

I can see that the tuna bake being cooked was a really nice touch where Hellin could prove to herself that he was awful. But you just wouldn't hang about if you were trying to leave. You'd just go.

And to suggest that the only way you can get out of an abusive situation is to attack your abuser is an insult to anyone who's got away from an abusive partner What a load of shite. Aaaarrrrgh!!

cherryrednose · 03/04/2016 19:46

I suspect the writers were trying to kill two birds with one stone - get rid of knob asap to stop listeners complaints but keep the momentum up with a juicy prosecution and perhaps generate another outcry as they did when Susan was banged up.

What bollocks.

gruber · 03/04/2016 19:47

Is that IT?? The end of the storyline that has been brewing and boiling for over 2 years over in 1 episode? And what will happen to Helen now? Poor Henry having witnessed that.

kippersyllabub · 03/04/2016 19:47

I thought Helen cooking him dinner was realistic - she seemed to be taking back control: she didn't want to be running away scared.

ArgyMargy · 03/04/2016 19:48

Oh lordy where is Pseudo? We need another thread!!

OneMoreStepAroundTheBendIGo · 03/04/2016 19:49

Maybe this episode is Helen's dream that she's in Albert Square and doing what an EE character would do to Knob?

Clutches at straws...

enochroot · 03/04/2016 19:50

She has Kirsty, Jess and the call to WA to back up her version. Probably not enough unless a few people re-evaluate what they have been seeing and hearing for months.

lljkk · 03/04/2016 19:50

If my husband was charging towards my 5yo son with uncontrolled fury & I had a knife in my hand & I got between them... yeah, I could see it happening. So maybe jury would be sympathetic.

Probably need a thread title about wanting to be floated away from this mortal world on a dewy spiderweb carrie by the fairies towards the land of Nicey-Niceness instead.
(Wish I was half as witty as Pseudo).

NotdeadyetBOING · 03/04/2016 19:50

Beyond. Furious.

How DARE it end like this? Whether he is dead or not - Helen will be prosecuted and it will all tie in perfectly with Knob's portrayal of her as unhinged. No credible witnesses - so she end up in prison and his reputation is in tact.

My blood is BOILING.

Yknow earlier when everyone was cross about the helrob sl, and Keri whatnot or SOC (cant remember, but it was definitely SOMEone) were getting all sanctimonious and saying well, weve done lots of research and IRL people suffer from EA for years and years so it's your DUTY to listen

Now I bet it's going to be 'well this is DRAMA not Real Life so we have to have grabby/exciting storylines'

Gruach · 03/04/2016 19:51

The Arts Desk - live tweeting the Olivier Awards:

" (Meanwhile, apparently The Archers is beating everyone for operatic drama tonight) #Oliviers #OlivierAwards "

3littlefrogs · 03/04/2016 19:51

Well - unless there is a really unexpected, dramatic, wonderfully written twist in the tale, that was a very simplistic, ill judged, rather pathetic ending.
