Not long until our thread's 3 year birthday!

October - what with that and the Referendum I think now would be a good time to go on a gap year Grin

MrsArthurShappey · 22/02/2016 23:17

Excellent title! I'm just place marking as I haven't heard tonight's yet. I hope they mention what the new cows look like, it's all I've been able to think about.

enochroot · 22/02/2016 23:24

I thought they decided on Jerseys for the high fat content.
Great title. Thank you.
We do seem to be zipping through them.

PseudoBadger · 22/02/2016 23:24

The SWs are milking this Brookfield saga that's for sure

Robotic milking?

Joskar · 22/02/2016 23:26

V important to check hens at night. Dh (and I ) were hen sitting for fil and there was only one left when he got back. Poor show Mr Joskar.

BYOSnowman · 22/02/2016 23:36

I have a picture in my mind of grandad joskar sitting in his favourite armchair with the last lonely hen on his lap as he considers disinheriting mr
Joskar

This chicken enterprise is exceedingly dull. Bert is the only interesting part.

And why would Lillian pay good money to two half wits to move her furniture?

Apparently the cows were a rainbow of colours- whites, blacks and browns and mixes of those three -no two cow the same.

Gruach · 22/02/2016 23:46

That Ambridge job fairy is working overtime.

But it's true - Lillian's house must be stuffed with precious things (Matt can hardly have taken the furniture) and she would have every professional removal firm for miles around one click away on her phone, at mates' rates. It's inconceivable that she would ask two randoms to do it.

GruntledOne · 22/02/2016 23:52

I've never yet heard a storyline involving the Fairbrethren that I gave a rats' arse about, but I will admit that it is moderately enjoyable hearing Toby's attempts to patronise Josh and the way Josh chews him up and spits out the pieces.

I suspect Justin would have been perfectly happy to pay for a removal firm for Lillian that actually knew what it was doing.

Imbroglio · 22/02/2016 23:59

A missed opportunity to talk about heritage poultry bloodlines, methinks.

Gruach · 23/02/2016 00:16

Lillian owns a property firm. She lets flats and houses. She wouldn't need any help in sourcing a reputable removals company ...

So why has the SW decided to pretend to have forgotten all that?

Unless ... they're proposing a new regular day job for the brethren. They can't possibly be planning a comedy piano falling down the Dower House stairs - so perhaps in thirty years Rex and Tobes will be running a massively successful removals firm. Or perhaps one of them will still be living off the land while the other owns a fleet of vans.

Travelledtheworld · 23/02/2016 05:50

Wasn't the dairy herd comprised of Fresian/Holstein cross cattle which are the standard big square black and white cows?
< drives off with muckspreader behind>

Travelledtheworld · 23/02/2016 05:53

...and this stupid Fairbretheren chicken SL.
Those battery breeds will probably die of shock if put outdoors. Definitely stop laying. Josh would know that for certain. He wouldn't just let the FB's trample over his superior poultry knowledge.

CuttedUpPear · 23/02/2016 06:41

Hey there's nothing wrong with place marking. This isn't AIBU after all.

I've been away again (across the channel). Sounds like it's not really worth the pain of LA is it?
I would rather treat myself to some episodes of Ed Reardon's Week as I lie in the bath and soak it all away.

bigbuttons · 23/02/2016 06:50

These threadbare getting quicker and quicker!

Thanks all of you who are actually listening and filling us in. I can stand to any more.

Veterinari · 23/02/2016 07:03

Battery breeds cope fine outdoors - commercial layers are the same whether kept in cages or free range.
You wouldn't want to use ex-layers as they're likely to be metabolically exhausted, but the layers themselves if bought as pullers would be fine

Veterinari · 23/02/2016 07:03

*pullets

recyclingbag · 23/02/2016 07:32

I'm now imagining Lilian insisting they do it in tight vests.

DadDadDad · 23/02/2016 07:46

cutted - that's a treat? I find the Ed Reardon character grates with his one-dimensional "I'm a great writer who has been overlooked and the rest of the world are idiots and philistines". The scenes with Geoffrey Whitehead are the only relief.

Anyway, sorry, back to discussing TA....

ArgyMargy · 23/02/2016 08:15

I quite like Ed Reardon too - at least his voice is distinguishable and the "plots" make sense.

I thought Arsula just completely made up the story about Henwee wetting the bed - after all Kirsty's never going to be allowed to check it out with Hellin is she?

EBearhug · 23/02/2016 08:34

On the archivist point, was that acçurate what Ruth and David were saying about his dad changing his herd?

They mentioned something about building the herd up a few weeks ago. I can't remember - but I do remember when I was very, very little, in the mid-'70s, we were changing from golden Guernseys to Friesland, and I suspect many herds would have gone through that in the '60s and '70s.

(Actually, I don't remember it per se, but I do remember the cows being milked in the old dairy, and they were all gingery colours, and I remember the new dairy being built when I was about 4, and the cows being milked there were mostly black and white, but there were a few Guernseys in with them still for a few more years, till they were all black and white. These are among my earliest memories. Milk being collected in churns rather than a bulk tanker.)

ppeatfruit · 23/02/2016 09:37

Blimey Ebear I didn't know we had an exfarmer in among us Grin are you an ex? I hadn't forgotten the real one btw Grin

Thanks for the new thread Psued Grin

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 23/02/2016 11:29

Marking place also - I can't believe how quickly we're rattling through these!

EBearhug · 23/02/2016 12:44

I'm in IT, but there are generations of farmers (including my father) of farming Bearhugs before me. Still got cousins in agriculture.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/02/2016 12:46

Hello, all. Thanks for the new thread, Pseudo, another great title!

Lilian must be on her uppers if she's had to resort to two men and a van instead of a proper removals firm. Also, she said the other day that Brian was sure to have a barn where she could store her furniture. Surely there must be a storage company in Borsetshire? I thought that was a growth business these days. There's a huge yellow place near us which I believe is part of a national chain.
