Wishful thinking. I think she's in it for the long haul Sad

OP posts:
Minimammoth · 03/09/2015 22:34

Oh yes. I want to see revenge( for scruff), ball kicking, disembowelling and imprisonment. Bring it on. Quick. Please.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/09/2015 22:36

did she?

ds talks incessantly at the moment so I may havemissed it

Gruach · 03/09/2015 22:49

"accidentally"?Grin

Though I hope no film listeners are reading. Wouldn't want to spoil it for them.

RockNRollNerd · 04/09/2015 00:02

Got to catch up on today's ep but want to get this into threads I'm on so here I am.

The constant Italian has really bugged me, I speak more foreign languages than yer average Brit and there is no way that you could rustle up a dinner party to talk in a foreign language like French (which everyone did at school) never mind Italian in my experience. Also did they blow all the sound effects budget on royalties for opera/music and therefore had only the sound guy and his mates to do the applause - every time they were at LL it sounded like there were about 10 people in the audience clapping.

Scarydinosaurs · 04/09/2015 07:47

rock I thought the same thing about the applause!

Very pleased Helen seems to be realising about Rob now. I hope he unravels, and quickly!

LillianGish · 04/09/2015 08:23

Yes - no doubt the scales are starting to fall from Helen's eyes. She doesn't even want to sit on the same sofa as him or even be in the house when he's around.

Gruach · 04/09/2015 08:27

But Lil - don't you think what she did was ultra-cool revenge?

(I'm ridiculously excited about it ...)

ppeatfruit · 04/09/2015 09:05

Yes of course !!!! Hell is organised ,I thought there'd be no way she wouldn't have known about the time Henry would start school! Blimey! She'lll be boiling knob's bunny next!!!!!

Gruach · 04/09/2015 09:09

Ppeat wasn't it the the time the builders (architects, whatever) were coming for the meeting??

Stickerrocks · 04/09/2015 09:20

Yes, but she fudged the time so Rob was kept waiting. "Silly mistaka to maka" as the Ambridge Italian speakers would say in best Allo Allo impressions.

ppeatfruit · 04/09/2015 09:21

Oh you've confused me now I'll have to Listen Again, again!!! Gruach

redshoeblueshoe · 04/09/2015 09:24

That's the trouble with this thread, other people notice things so you have to listen again Smile

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 04/09/2015 09:39

The only thing I would say is that to be true to life they could have made her realisation less abrupt.
What usually happens is months of minor niggles and 'fights' where it is definitely the abuser who is wrong but the victim feels like it is them. The blame game. Whereas in this case he is clearly wrong and she knows it. But it is like she has realised he is wrong over this one thing and not noticed the rest because the rest isn't obvious iyswim. Even tho we've been shouting at the radio for months. So she believes she was with a nice man who suddenly turned out to be a rapist rather than she has been with gradually increasing nastiness for sometime.

enochroot · 04/09/2015 09:49

Hmmm. She's choosing not to sit next to him if she can avoid it.
She's yearning for a time when she and Henry were 'a team', (though IIRC she left him with Pat'n'Tone whenever she could and was pretty snappy with him when she did have him to herself.)
She's questioning his choice of builder and that doesn't come entirely out of the blue because his choice of Tina was a disaster.
She's deliberately fudged the time to keep him out of something.
I'd say one or two scales have fallen from her eyes.

R4 · 04/09/2015 10:02

I don't know what to make of Helen. She can be as manipulative and controlling as Rob when the mood takes her.
Bit I'm not sure what she wants here. Rob wanted her to be chained to the kitchen sink a SAHM but she insisted that she wanted to carry on with Organics. Then, next thing you know, she was too busy with playgroup for the designers' meeting and so busy with Henry starting school that she has delegated the fit-out to Rob.Confused

InimitableJeeves · 04/09/2015 10:12

I don't think her realisation is necessarily over-abrupt. It seems to me credible that the use of physical force has suddenly pulled her up short. What we really need is a scene with a friend where she unburdens herself, but unless Kirsty suddenly turns up and forgives her it's difficult to see how that's going to happen. Maybe someone like Lil?

Gruach · 04/09/2015 10:18

Rob inveigled her into conceding on both those points though. We didn't hear the first but can infer it; with the second she couldn't really risk Tom seeing anything other than her ecstatic unity with the evil fool.

But she was very clever in preventing him from accompanying her to Henry's first morning. (Particularly given that Rob probably feels nothing for Henry but would have loved bragging about "taking his son to school".)

ppeatfruit · 04/09/2015 10:22

Yes I noticed he deliberately got her drunk for the rape, and she noticed it too. She now is in full knowledge about the shit she married Oh...My... God. Shock

enochroot · 04/09/2015 10:53

YY to Helen being manipulative and controlling.
Right now she's starting to see through him but she knows she has to appease him. This is going to turn into hatred and we might eventually get the outcome we have wanted where she turns the tables on him.

ppeatfruit · 04/09/2015 11:10

But she's an infant compared to her husband. Although of course I find that women are a little more subtle in their manouvres Grin

enochroot · 04/09/2015 11:14

He thinks he's got her where he wants. Tamed.
He thinks he's poised to take over the farm and the whole family's fooled.
He thinks he's got away with the culvert blockage and has Charlie under control.

It wouldn't take much to send him over the edge if anything goes wrong for him.

squeaver · 04/09/2015 11:31

Spot on, enoch, but I heard her behaviour last night as being more like someone who was scared to sit next to him on the sofa and probably kept him away from Henry's first day at school in case he said anything to upset or embarrass Henry or her in the playground.

I thought her comment to Johnny about "Don't tell anyone that I'm sad" was very telling.

Gruach · 04/09/2015 11:37

I felt it was more fundamental than simply worrying that Rob would upset or embarrass.

Henry is hers. She recognises that she has (foolishly and regrettably) conceded power to Rob in every other aspect of her life but she wants to retain this one thing as an area that he can't control.

At least I hope so.Grin

(I'll fight anyone who says I'm overinfested.)

squeaver · 04/09/2015 11:38

Although I really hope that it is the start of a fightback. She needs to talk to her Mum! Or Kirsty or Ian.

ppeatfruit · 04/09/2015 12:19

Gruach Overinfested moi??? Grin
