Wishful thinking. I think she's in it for the long haul Sad

OP posts:
Gruach · 11/09/2015 09:31

Yes ... I'm not quite sure I approve, it seems a bit self-serving for the BBC to do this. Though I'm sure it's wonderful for the actress.

R4 · 11/09/2015 09:44

I wonder if the SW are desperately trying to change the dynamic. We had father/son tussles about the future of the farm between Dan and Phil. Then again between Phil and David. To a certain degree, between Pat'n'Tony and Tom. We now have them between Brine and Adam.
Are they trying to make a mother/daughter tussle, with the added complication of the father siding with the daughter.

LyndaNotLinda · 11/09/2015 09:49

I completely agree that Ruth is being uncharacteristically wet in the way she's dealing with her mum. And her being unable to cook/do laundry while HP was in hospital was completely bizarre.

I also think that HP has acted entirely out of character - she was always a stoic woman, well-established in her local community with a strong support network. Where the hell are all her friends?

The whole storyline is really irritating me, not to mention the fact that Jill had to move out because HP was moving in (but having Pip's room) but when Pip lasts 5 minutes at her job, she's moved straight back home with no mention of having to move out of her room for HP.

God I'm ridiculously over-invested Blush

R4 · 11/09/2015 10:05

Also, did you notice that loving mum will not be there for Josh's birthday. His coming-of-age 18th birthday!Shock

BYOSnowman · 11/09/2015 10:05

Grace is on woman's hour today

Gruach · 11/09/2015 10:08

Thanks for the reminder BYOS! Just turned over.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 11/09/2015 11:40

There was a programme on R4 last nigth about the dairy industry, all linked in to the Archers - about 8 or 8.30 I think (I caught a bit of it in the car). Anyone know if it's worth listening again to the whole thing?

I make TPB a lot - at least twice a month! Ready salted crisps are an integral part of the topping

InimitableJeeves · 11/09/2015 11:48

I don't think HP is acting out of character - a stroke can have devastating effects. However, I agree that is is most odd that we hear nothing of the friends who were previously her main reason for staying in Prudhoe. You would think they would be rallying round helping with the house, visiting her etc but suddenly it's all down to Ruth.

LyndaNotLinda · 11/09/2015 11:54

Sorry, I was thinking back to when she first fell - I don't think she had a stroke at first did she? I agree that strokes can have devastating effects on personality and confidence. Poor HP doesn't even get a speaking part now :(

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2015 12:06

Yes I heard it on LA Trevor Interesting because it included TA 'agricultural advisor.' But unless I missed it they didn't talk about whether the cows in the massive factory farms are given ABs routinely.

LillianGish · 11/09/2015 13:10

I think the Pip David dynamic is a good contrast with Adam and Brine. They are a real partnership and David is happy for them to be so whereas Brine is holding on for grim death and even throwing obstacles in Adam's way in the shape of Kate and her yurts. Tom and Hellin have been left to get on with it at Bridge Farm but face interference from Knob.
I'm another who thinks the HP move might be yet another plot which comes to nothing with HP dying before she eventually makes the move.

Joskar · 11/09/2015 13:29

I see! So who are the Fairbrothers in relation to Grace? Was Jill on the scene before Grace died waiting to scoop up Phil or did she come later? Was Grace nice?

Will Jill have a fit when Pip gets off with Rex? Because she will, no? Don't see Toby being able to woo her with his lackadaisical attitude to farming.

BYOSnowman · 11/09/2015 13:29

If HP dies before the move or shortly after Ruth will blame David

Grace interview was interesting

Soc is clearly very interested in raking up the past. Unfortunately.

Gruach · 11/09/2015 13:42

Fairbrothers.

Think Jill came along afterwards. Can't tell you about Grace - before my time! The impression I've gained is that she was a bit of a spoilt princess.

TeenyfTroon · 11/09/2015 13:43

Poor HP doesn't even get a speaking part now.

For which I am truly thankful. I liked the original HP, with her gentle voice. The new one annoys me more than anyone else. Well, maybe Kenton annoys me more, but that's what he says more than how he says it.

D and R are both irritating. I'm beginning to wish they had buggered off...

LyndaNotLinda · 11/09/2015 14:19

True Teeny :o

Just LA - I actually quite liked the scene between Usha and Ruth. Ruth's basically written herself out of the farm by throwing herself into fulltime carer role and it's difficult to pull back now. But honestly, did she really expect the farm to be put on hold while she played the incompetent dutiful daughter for months on end?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/09/2015 14:52

Why is Jill in a tizz about the Fairbrothers?
Exactly! Why? She appears to be notheted about Grace. Grace who is dead. Grace who was dead before she got there. Get over it ffs.
Might be understandable if she was botheredabout Lizzie's previous. But no.

Abd weirdly everyone else just nods and coos. No one says, really, Jill, let it go, let it go (frozen moment)

BitOutOfPractice · 11/09/2015 14:55

I'm puzzled by Jill's problem with Grace too. It's distinctly odd

I wondered if it was to drum up interest in the upcoming 60th anniversary of the fire

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2015 14:58

Phil always put Grace on a pedestal and Jill always found it very difficult.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/09/2015 15:02

Really? I think in the 30 years I've been listening I have heard Grace mentioned maybe 3 times (apart from Jill recently)

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2015 15:05

Really? Have I made that up then? I am sure it's been talked about before.....

BitOutOfPractice · 11/09/2015 15:07

I'm sure you haven't Bertrand. Just that I've not heard much about it and it seems odd that Jill is so wound up by it now. I'm sure you're right Smile

frostyfingers · 11/09/2015 15:25

Long time lurker.....re the comment about where are HP's friends now? My mum had a severe stroke several years ago now and apart from a few of her really close mates, she has been deserted in droves by people we thought were her friends - so it doesn't come as much of a surprise to me I'm afraid.

GypsyFl0ss · 11/09/2015 15:29

Maybe Jill's issue with Grace is that she left Phil a widower rather a divorced man. So Jillian is the second best wife who would never have become an Archer had Grace survived?

JustMeOverHere · 11/09/2015 15:41

I think it's this too.
