Oh look - plot device usha is back so we can see inside Ruth's mind

Rex has changed his voice a bit to try and make it more distinctive. Sounds too young IMO

Pip killing off granny heather!!

BYOSnowman · 10/09/2015 19:16

That dinner sounds shit

Gruach · 10/09/2015 19:24

Mmm ... Tuna pasta bake? She should cook that for Rob.

GriefLeavesItsMark · 10/09/2015 19:33

And what Jolene phoning Pipsqueak about and why did it make her cook yes?

Also, Bert, Is he living in one of the cottages - either the holiday cottage or one that they'd just found. Or is he living at Brookfailed? And if he is living there why isn't he moving out instead of Jill? Surely he is only !meant to be there until his cottage is mended. And how big is Brookfailed anyway? Does it change size like the legendary flat above the shop?

Wordsaremything · 10/09/2015 19:37

Ruth storyline unbelievable. I'm an only child and if nothing else it teaches you independence and getting on with things alone. I've also been through/ am going through the elderly parent thing. She's just being wet.

LyndaNotLinda · 10/09/2015 19:52

Do young people really still make tuna pasta bake? It was a staple of my best friend's repetoire when I was at university - 30 years ago :o

BYOSnowman · 10/09/2015 20:05

i thought only students ate tuna bake

BertrandRussell · 10/09/2015 20:15

"See! Even Ruth thinks Pip and David are weird."

No she doesn't! She thinks they have taken over the running of the farm and there's no role for her. Which is good, because she'll be looking after her mum and will be driven insane by week 4.

Gruach · 10/09/2015 21:02

Didn't she say they seemed really "tight"?Grin

EBearhug · 10/09/2015 21:37

thought only students ate tuna bake
Pip's only just graduated.

BYOSnowman · 10/09/2015 21:39

Ruth implied Ben was a big fan of tuna bake which implies it is eaten a lot

i am assuming pre Jill

Stickerrocks · 10/09/2015 22:22

Personally, I still quite like tuna pasta bake, but.it has to have a cheesy topping.

BertrandRussell · 10/09/2015 22:40

I didn't think Tuna Pasta Bake was actually a real thing- I thought it was just an archetype of student food.........

BYOSnowman · 10/09/2015 22:42

Not just me then Bertrand!

InimitableJeeves · 10/09/2015 23:59

This. I'm not an only child, but both my siblings are a bit useless and I've been dealing with an elderly parent suffering the after-effects of a stroke essentially on my own for the last three years. Plus I have a job which I cannot just abandon for weeks on end. I don't claim any special virtue, or indeed any virtue at all, for the fact that I've just got on with it without having hysterics at my family including useless siblings. I wish the SWs would realise that, given the depiction of Ruth as a supposedly strong and capable farmer, getting on with it without making a massive fuss would be much more in character.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 11/09/2015 01:00

I don't think D and P are that weird or that R thinks they are. I think R is seeing it how it is. Not only has Pip not gone, she has stayed and has taken Ruth's job. Leaving Ruth as HPs carer with no other role.

I don't see D and P rs as in any way sexual.or romantic. Mind you I don't see D and Rs rs that way either. It is just a partnership where Pip has replaced Ruth as the opinion he values.

Pip has all these ambitions and will no doubt be at loggerheads with D again soon when she tries to enact all her plans at BF. In a way she has seen Ruth's absence as a window of opportunity and has carried it off in the guise of being helpful and supportive.

There has been a theme for a while about what do old people do when they no longer feel useful and they don't have Peggy's financial levers. Jill, Auntie Caroline, Bert etc.

I think soon HP will die/go onto home but by that point Ruth will feel so sidelined that she will no longer feel useful. Then there will be separation.

Gruach · 11/09/2015 04:29

Grin You're right of course SmallLegs - there's nothing weird in the story and I'm perfectly sure they have no intention of portraying any familial weirdness at Brookfield. It's just that the writing and direction has been so off-kilter that they've given an unintended impression.

What you say about Pip staying and taking Ruth's job is spot on. I really can't see where the SWs are going with poor Heather.

GypsyFl0ss · 11/09/2015 06:30

Competely agree SmallLegs.

Minimammoth · 11/09/2015 08:20

No doubt it will be another dead end plot line. H moving down, oh no she isn't, dead instead. I have no idea what Ruth is doing in Prudhoe either, clearing the house, a week at most, estate agents to do viewing, mum taken care of in care home, for the time being. Most people I know have done this kind of juggling, work and family.
I hope that Feebs gets to Oxford though and that that is not another dead end storyline.

Joskar · 11/09/2015 08:45

I've only been listening to the Archers for three or four years. What's the craic with Grace? Why is Jill in a tizz about the Fairbrothers?

Seriouslyffs · 11/09/2015 08:50

Does anyone remember when Ruth was a student at Brookfield? The Fairbrothers sniffing around PIp is earily similar and I remember being Hmm when she seemed to randomly choose David
after dating Kenton.

Gruach · 11/09/2015 08:50

Joskar have a look:

Here

And here

WipsGlitter · 11/09/2015 09:12

OMG. If Pip says "Granny Heather" one more time i will not be responsible for my actions. Why not "Granny Jill"?

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2015 09:22

Isn't Jill Grandma?

EBearhug · 11/09/2015 09:28

I was listening to the radio driving home one day this week, and therecwas a trailer for Ysanne Churchman (her as played Grace, might have misremembered the name,) because she's done an interview for 60 years since Grace was killed off. Which means we'll get to hear Phil going, "Grace! Grace!" yet again.

Ah yes, Google tells me -
Dead Girls Tell No Tales will be broadcast on Radio 4 on Saturday, September 19 at 2.30pm.
