Wishful thinking. I think she's in it for the long haul Sad

AFAIK Gruach It belongs to D & R and siblings. It's a bit odd really. Unless they all chipped in when BF was bought.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/09/2015 11:50

There are A shares and B shares. David and Ruth have A shares. The other three siblings have B shares. The B shares are entitled to nothing at all unless the farm is sold, in which case they get part of the proceeds. I don't think it's ever been specified how this affects the next generation, but presumably the siblings will leave the B shares to their children and D&R will leave the A shares to Pip, Josh and Ben.

Gruach · 10/09/2015 11:54

It doesn't belong to the siblings.

They get nothing unless the farm is sold. That is the only circumstance in which their "shares" would be activated. And the inference from Phil's original discussion is that they would receive only token amounts. The writers have never specified an exact sum.

( Otherwise the siblings would need to be consulted over every decision made about the working of the farm.)

(Just to be clear I'm disagreeing with lovely Ppeat and agreeing with encyclopaedically knowledgeable Gasp0 )

You're very kind Gruach I don't have the enclopedic knowledge of Gaspode 'tis true.

Though there is a tangled web at BF to be sure Grin

Ruth has had at least three months of pissing about in Prudhoe and not being an active partner in Brookfield.

But why has she been alone all the time? I know they've been harvesting and they've got milking and feeding and checking stock every day, but it's also been the school hols till recently - Pip''s obviously running the world, and Josh may have been helping with a bit of grain hauling, (talking of which, how come there was never any fuss about him getting a car, like we had with Pip?) plus he's got his chickens - but Ben's old enough to help lug bits of furniture and stuff about at 13, even if he couldn't help with phoning round care homes and so on.

ppeatfruit · 10/09/2015 12:58

True about Ben in the hols but Dave went up there recently didn't he? Ebearhug

InimitableJeeves · 10/09/2015 13:02

The need to clear HP's house only arose relatively recently, and I doubt that Ruth will need to lug any furniture around: surely all she has to do is earmark what is going to Brookfield, what is going to be sold and what is going to be dumped and employ some big strong removals men to shift it.

And we are back to the fact that really there hasn't been any need for her to be in Prudhoe full time - her mother's been looked after firstly at the hospital and secondly at the home, and is probably bored to death of trying to think of things to say to Ruth.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 10/09/2015 13:18

I don't think David and Pip are being weird weird, but I think she's always been the apple of his eye, and the SW follow this too, showing as little interest in Josh and Ben as their parents do!

ppeatfruit · 10/09/2015 13:31

Seek Agree about Pip n Dave, But perhaps the young actors have problems getting on air ,due to the law. Which are quite strong for under 16yr olds.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 10/09/2015 14:30

Thanks ppeat!
I've not been listening too long but this thread has sucked me in massively!
In my newbie opinion, there is no way HP is going to move down. I just can't see them writing her in as a character with a speaking part but equally it would be very odd to have her as a non-speaking part given how important she is to the story.
So are D and R going to split up?? Seems excessive. Does Ruth's actor want to leave and they can't find anyone else who can murder a Geordie accent in just the same way?
Is HP going to die on the way? But then what on earth was all the musical houses with Jill all about? Will they just move her back in again?

ppeatfruit · 10/09/2015 14:44

Sorry Foxes HP is a speaking character and has been down recently Grin

InimitableJeeves · 10/09/2015 14:45

I think HP probably will move; she's been a speaking character before. But I suspect she'll be killed off fairly quickly.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 10/09/2015 14:52

Ah, rubbish! I've got a lot to learn!

StubbleTurnips · 10/09/2015 15:09

Looks like I'm gonna be busy when those sheep move in.

ppeatfruit · 10/09/2015 15:20

Yes Stubble I hope you're ready for the ewe hogs!!!

trevortrevorslatterfry · 10/09/2015 15:54

Nice name change Grin

Hand-reared ewe hog with on a bed of wilted stubbleturnips for tea.
mm delicious.

TheSilveryPussycat · 10/09/2015 16:02

Going back to the phone conversation between David and Ruth that someone said was filler, I thought it was a conversation where Ruth knew about the hoggets from Pip, and kept the conversation going hoping David would mention it - ie there was an elephant in the room and the script managed to convey that on radio.

Or perhaps not?

TheSilveryPussycat · 10/09/2015 16:06

I agree it is ridiculous Ruth would not know from phone conversations of the kind any couple would have. I am very annoyed by The Archers atm.

ppeatfruit · 10/09/2015 16:45

Maybe the reception was bad at the time. Many a time I've been on my mobile and the person I talked to didn't hear correctly.

SisterMoonshine · 10/09/2015 19:04

I usually lurk. But just had to mention Ruth's voice last night.
I think it was Jill said she was surprised to see Ruth back. And what I heard was Ruth say "it was a nimples thing" (must've been 'impulse').

Gruach · 10/09/2015 19:06

See! Even Ruth thinks Pip and David are weird.

Lordy. Shock

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 10/09/2015 19:08

That was a bit of an odd conversation really wasn't it?
