It's all getting rather delicious. I feel sorry for Kenton the fool

Heatherpet will definitely not want Ruth on her doorstep, she would have her dropping in every five minutes, to see if she was ok. It would cramp her style, she would have to hide the gin, and abandon the Poker night.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 28/02/2015 09:09

Heatherpet is so going to do a fist pump (that is what it's called isn't it - I can kind of see how that might be slang for something rude) when Ruth tells her the archers are staying in ambridge. Having to see more of Ruth would surely push her into an early grave. Why are they so concerned when they haven't cared for years?

My grandad was alone a four hour drive away from us all but he would never have moved and he had lovely neighbours. It makes me sad to think of him alone all those years but I know he was happy where he was.

MollieCoddler · 28/02/2015 09:12

Totally agree about the reactions of the Brookfield children. Weird.

stilllearnin · 28/02/2015 09:20

I think it's fist bump, ici? A fist pump? Yeah, that's probably something else!

I think pip's reaction is potentially more understandable. She is looking to the future and may have seen a modern set up without a road through it a better option for her career personally.

Have we talked about the point of AO closing. Is it the finality for Helen?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 28/02/2015 09:33

I meant when you make a fist and pull your elbow back whilst discreetly saying 'yes!'. So not a fist bump either as Ruth isn't going to share the joy!

The AO thing is odd. It either made money or it didn't. They're going to have to find a new outlet and it doesn't do much for the brand. A bit lame that they had one poor manager and that's that.

I wonder if Tom is playing the long game and realises rob is trying to alienate Helen. Do they have specialist emotional intelligence training in Canada? If so, I'd like to send my husband!!

ApplesinmyPocket · 28/02/2015 09:35

The "teenage boys are so worried about poor dear distant Granny they're gutted not to after all be uprooting from home, school, and friends" was so unconvincing to me I could only rationalise it by it actually being Rooth putting thoughts in their hearts because she needs SOMEone else to be disappointed.

On a personal plus note, I've finally got past the point of having to look up Who's Speaking - I recognised Pat immediately last night even though she was out of context as it were - seems a small thing to you veterans I expect - but I felt so happy to have got through that awkward 'gate-crashing a well-established prog in full swing' phase and now I feel graduated and can I please be presented with my own milking stool (somewhere at the back) Grin

minkGrundy · 28/02/2015 09:38

Specialist emotional intelligence training Grin

And I knew what you meant byos

I am hoping HP tells Ruth it is fine. R goes home and says oh Deevid I have been a fool. Why didn't I see you were unhappy. And come to think of it I cannot leave Brokefield either.

Imo that would be reasonably in character for their marriage.

Hakluyt · 28/02/2015 09:56

Actually, Pip's reported reaction seems the most credible to me- she's an ambitious young farmer who thought she was going to be able to be part of a modern farm with enough money to do state of the art stuff- no wonder she's furious.

squeaver · 28/02/2015 10:05

Yes, Brookfield teenagers being upset about not moving is bordering on the ridiculous. My parents moved 3 miles when I was 16 and I went mad! I didn't even change schools!

I though Usha and Ruth bringing up the Sam affair (which wasn't even an affair, was it? Just a bit of snogging in the barn) was VERY odd. And yes it was 10 years ago - I can remember feeding my dd while listening to it. Although it was nice to hear long-lost Usha. Who knows, we might even hear from Christopher next...!

Apples - I know exactly what you mean. I've been listening on and off for over 20 years and I still have to think about who's related to who.

squeaver · 28/02/2015 10:08

Oh, I keep forgetting to mention this. Does anyone remember in the New Year's Eve episode Pip talking to someone (Dan?) and telling them that she was planning to head off travelling when she leaves Uni. So she would have persuaded D&R to put all this expensive kit into the new place then pissed off to Australia!

Bluestocking · 28/02/2015 10:33

You're right, squeaver, the RoboPip did say she was planning to go travelling after Yew-Nee.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 28/02/2015 10:37

ROFLING at oedipal flapjack

And loving Bluestockings "veddy Veddy generous" with the jewels.
That is exactly how I see Peggy - a skinnier version of Granny Giles

Whoever it was asking about why the will has been made public pre-Peggy's SOTMC, it's because of all the hoohah with Hazel? Jacks daughter and her expectation. Peggy didn't want there to be fall out (HAHAHAH) so she sat everyone down and said:

Right Well, Tiger and Brine will look after Pusscat and JennyDarling
But Poor Olde Tony - he hasn't done brilliantly at looking after the farm
Tom (the biggest suck up in HISTORY) will inherit everything except the Lodge which we will give to Helen who has made foolish life choices and we don't want Damian Henry to be homeless

Also interesting how cross Rob was about the fact that it's not their house - but Usha's. If they close AO and H not working then will they get a mortgage?(let alone whatever CSA claims Jess might have - that has all gone VERY quiet, hasn't it)

I can't believe Charlie got the okay for a promo deal of You cut our hedges and we will waive the notice period in one afternoon

I also can't believe that he is keeping it quiet
I also can't believe that Ed didn't consider his notice period in his decision making - surely Eddie would have had him abreast of that???

Anyway I am very much enjoying this thread. Need to go and find Ruth's DH one that was linked to from TA. (busy week here)

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 28/02/2015 10:38

I'm hoping pi goes to Australia and falls in love with the heir to an enormous and remote sheep farm and chooses to stay there. Forever.

Minimammoth · 28/02/2015 10:47

I wonder how many miles of hedging there are on the estate? Ed was duped, has not thought it through.
I am beginning to agree with whoever said Rob will do a runner. As he becomes ever more trapped with the dead weight of Helen.

ZeroFunDame · 28/02/2015 11:05

Tom (the biggest suck up in HISTORY) will inherit everything except the Lodge which we will give to Helen who has made foolish life choices and we don't want Damian Henry to be homeless.

Love that royal "we" Olivia!

Although I understood it to be the rent that will be waived rather than the notice period. I'm unclear now - both seem possible ...Confused

But I don't feel he's being duped if he would still otherwise have been liable for rent. Because he'd have had to spend time earning the money to pay the rent anyway. At least with the hedging he can probably delegate it to someone less busy if he needs to.

Icimoi · 28/02/2015 11:06

I think it's fist bump, ici? A fist pump? Yeah, that's probably something else!

Nope, I never mentioned either a fist bump or a fist pump, stilllearnin.

Icimoi · 28/02/2015 11:10

Show me a teenage boy with a potentially lonely granny, and I'll show you a boy who puts his head in the sand and assumes that someone else will sort out granny. You certainly won't see a boy who wants to disrupt his whole life to hep her out.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 28/02/2015 11:16

Funnly enough my job keeps me well abreast off all things fist related
You wouldn't believe the #sentencesIshouldn'thavetotypeforwork

Fist Pump
fist bump

HeatherPet is Andy Murray not Barack Obama
Grin

OddFodd · 28/02/2015 11:17

It was BYOS who was talking about fist pumping. I think she's been reading that prostate massage thread Wink

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 28/02/2015 11:18

I think heatherpet has been spending the past few months planning how to fake her own death

R4 · 28/02/2015 11:20

Well done apples. You will probably end up better than us at voice recognition because you are not confused by old/new actors! I still cannot get Tom as he doesn't seem to have a distinctive vocal - every time I hear him I think "who's that?"

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 28/02/2015 11:23

Yes!! Heatherpet will have an andy Murray moment (I'm not even going to ask about the prostate thread - I am far too naive for these things).

She will be having a Barack moment later in the pub as she downs some newcy browns with her mates

enochroot · 28/02/2015 11:25

I'm guessing the Archer boys are very quiet because they're keeping their heads down. They will know their parents are at odds and are wise enough not to pass an opinion.

Yes, Pip did say she wanted to go travelling when she graduates so, if the move went ahead, would have left her parents struggling to run the new farm anyway.

Ruth was on the brink of running off with Sam the cowman so I would define that as an affair. She was going to abandon husband, farm and kids and would never have had a sniff at 7.5 million.

As for Helen......
We got the stubborn streak in that episode but Tom seems to have been ready for her. He's either had specialist emotional training or a Road to Damascus experience in Canada. He supports the closure of the shop because of a reasonable businesslike assessment which is rather different to the way Rob 'supports' her dithering.
She expected Pat's outrage but Tom took the wind out of her sails.

If Helen has no income and no certainty of inheriting a house then Peggy has thrown down an elegant suede gauntlet when she says Rob is expected to provide for H and Henry. I think we can expect more hints about Henry being 'your son' from now on. Steak Diane might be off the menu if she's having to scrimp and save. He's a middle-aged man with absolutely no tangible assets. Odd that.

the Archer boys are very quiet because they're keeping their heads down.

They're keeping their heads down because they've noticed that if their profile is too high they might find themselves replaced by a clone or a replicant*. They're probably aware of The Stepford Wives and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
