She's got a whole calendar to use!

Did anyone else notice Hellin no eating with Rob yesterday as she said 'I had a sandwich earlier with Henry'. Bit ominous for a former anorexic surely?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 19/11/2014 21:38

I thought so, Cheminotte.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 19/11/2014 21:44

yes - i think she has avoided food before too

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2014 21:59

I've just been googling 'smudge stick' as that was a new one on me. I'd heard of smudge fires, which I think would be more of an Ambridge thing - burning a dried cowpat to repel insects. Grin

BiscuitMillionaire · 19/11/2014 22:08

Is Carol hinting that she and John had an open relationship? Even having a dig at Jennifer, as in, you weren't the only one darling?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 19/11/2014 22:10

i think carol is just a bitch. imho.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2014 22:18

I'm not sure about Carol - she and Jill seem to have a genuine friendship, and she's fine with Bert. I just think she enjoys teasing Jenny

BringYourOwnSnowman · 19/11/2014 22:22

with jill it's like carol is the popular kid and jill is running round after her

and i'm not sure i like the way she talks about bert behind his back!

and i don't think she was that nice about christine

and i don't think it was very nice teasing, especially given what's happened to tony

she strikes me as a queen bee type

PrincessFiorimonde · 20/11/2014 00:38

I suppose the point is that Carol's rather arch delivery makes it hard to know if she's teasing Jennifer ('I know what you're thinking, but in fact it was me who suggested John left you the books and the money'), or if she's a queen bee ('How lovely to think I've been back only five seconds but I already have you all gathered round me while I patronise you to the hilt'), or indeed if she's a horror ('How polite I am while I brew my potions grind your face in the fact that I know things that you don't know').

So she's quite well done, I think.

minklundy · 20/11/2014 01:18

I don't like her either.

Jenny did say she didn't want to go to 'wretched bridge night'

And as for timing of baby. As far as everyone else is concerned, Rob and Jess split up long before, after all he was living with Hellin (she will be upduff you mark my words).

She didn't broadcast Jess's visit. Who would in that situation?

unitarian · 20/11/2014 01:32

I expect Jess banked on Jennifer being sufficiently interested to spread the news but it has backfired because J just isn't interested. That's because she's worried about Tony so the plan is foiled because too many stories are on the boil at the same time.

I keep asking myself what Carol is for.
Did TA need Carol?
No.

Jeremiah prophesied doom, didn't he?

GypsyFloss · 20/11/2014 05:52

Exactly BYOS.

Unitarian that thought popped into my mind too!

mummytime · 20/11/2014 07:06

I'm not sure Jess is relying on Jenny, but other people read the paper, and if she knows villages/small towns - news spreads quickly. I'm sure Susan and/or Clarrie will see it too. If they want to bring back Hayley, she could always get a job with Jess - Jess may well want a Nanny, and they can share cheating ex stories.

trevortrevorslattery · 20/11/2014 08:08

Ugh I think Carol is a dick. I liked her at first but now I don't- why does she keep picking on Jenny probably because she had an "affair" with her husband actually

I don't know why Jenny has anything to do with her though- no reason why she couldn't just avoid her company.

I assume Bert and F will have a lease that allows them to stay on in the cottage after the sale. Does anyone know? I'm not sure if things are different on farms but you can't just kick your tenants out on a whim in normal property.. I suppose it depends whether they would have a long lease or just keep renewing a shorter one, does it?

Any surveyors or other property professionals want to volunteer for the new featured profession? Grin

Ooh baby Jessus too!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/11/2014 08:57

Jenny got a birth announcement car so the only way Susan will find out is if she got the card too

I think the big hint that it is robs is 'mrs Jessica titchener'. I don't think you would put that I it was another mans. And you would be announcing it with your new partner if you had one.

Archer relations are weird though. Lil and hen don't seem bothered hat their niece may have a mystery stepchild, Jill and christine don't seem that bothered that their nephew is critically ill

I don't think carol has any hidden depths. I think she's just your classic school bully/queen bee

R4 · 20/11/2014 09:10

Has anyone ever been visiting where the hostess serves up her own blend of tea? Seems very strange. And you would expect someone to ask what was in it, like if someone offered an unusual cake you would ask for ingredients/recipe. And Christine falling asleep was very strange too, though no-one seemed to mind.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/11/2014 10:37

The suggestion was that Christine was drunk an I think Jill sounded merry

I just don't get the sw thought process. Jenny's brother is at deaths door and they are putting in these silly stories. I would expect Tony's family to be one track minded at the moment

unitarian · 20/11/2014 10:52

I assumed the ones who drank the tea were stoned.

mummytime · 20/11/2014 10:56

Sorry I thought it was an announcement in the Echo.

unitarian · 20/11/2014 11:03

I've heard the expression, 'He's a proper Jeremiah,' meaning he's a misery merchant. Cassandra is the female equivalent.

JessieMcJessie · 20/11/2014 11:04

I liked Carol at first and now I want to punch her "it's our duty to go on living", yeah maybe but not taking the piss out of a critically ill man's sister and suggesting she play gin rummy!

Also, her little comment about taking a hip flask to the Christmas carol service- if that had been Lilian I'd have laughed, but Carol just sounded snide.

JessieMcJessie · 20/11/2014 11:05

Does anyone remember the original Carol, is this in any way in keeping with her previous character?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 20/11/2014 11:17

Yes I guess stoned makes more sense

I've never liked carol but then I don't know Eleanor bron! I think people like her at the start because of the actress but that goodwill is long gone!!

I would be interested to know what original carol was like

I thought her conversation with bert was crass and showed a lack of empathy for other people. Maybe she's a sociopath

songbird · 20/11/2014 11:39

Lovely Archers chums, you're an intelligent and witty bunch. I'm appealing for suggestions for a secular Christmas reading here. If you have any ideas, please help!!!

Thanks, and sorry for the hijack.

Back on track - what the jeff is Carol up to, she's really starting to grate. Jenny's reaction to her is more baffling though Hmm

Abra1d · 20/11/2014 13:25

What was that tea? Jenny was right to be suspicious!
