Here's a Q: (see, I said I'd be back at some point Grin )

What was the best executed Archers plot anyone can recall?
NOT the best plotline in terms of the story, but best in terms of how the scriptwriters handled the pacing, timing, delivery, etc etc ?

I am still thinking btw, just thought I'd throw it out there.

PetulaGordino · 23/06/2014 17:50

i actually think the rob storyline could and should run and run over years

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/06/2014 17:56

Best plotlines?

Kathy rape (whole story over a couple of years, iirc)

Brine and Shove (she of the lovely hair) and Rooarrrrooooarrriii

unitarian · 23/06/2014 17:56

It could and possibly should but I still long for him to come unstuck!

LillianGish · 23/06/2014 18:03

I think the Roy Elizabeth thing goes right back to when Caroline lent him to Lower Loxley after Nigel's death. Of all the recent plot twists I find it the most believable. Roy was the person Elizabeth lent on in the very early days after Nigel's death, he helped her keep the business going and in the end she poached him from Caroline. Since then they have worked very closely together - just as Elizabeth and Nigel worked together before his fateful plunge. I think Roy is slightly in awe of Lizzie - he can't believe his luck and after the Brenda and Tom bombshells he's more ready to do the unthinkable. I think Lizzie is going to be the one to regret it - I don't think Roy is her type but she probably feels safe with him at the moment for all the reasons outlined and she got carried away in a drunken moment. I think if he persists (and he will because I think now this happened he won't be able to look at Hayley in the same way) she is going to get very irritated - being a woman who always likes to get her own way.

Sneezecakesmum · 23/06/2014 18:03

Yes the kathy rape story was very well done and believable.

Liked the ed and Emma and will and the 'whose baby is it?' Story and was actually surprised at who the daddy was probably naive of me

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/06/2014 18:09

Well developed SLs?

Elizabeth's developing relationship with Nigel - through the heady teenage filching of her sisters boyfriend, the evil Simon, pregnancy, termination, experience, properly working together and finding each other as adults. EPIC.

Agree about Kathy's story. It showed her making decisions, and developed her relationships with Sid and Kenton. I like it when they make the personal political - and I suspect that that will be a priority for the new regime.

Best plot? Jenny and Debbie both finding they had unfaithful husbands at the same time.

StandsOnGoldenSands · 23/06/2014 18:11

Hmmm interesting perspective on it Lilian.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/06/2014 18:12

Lil'G! Wot again!

PetulaGordino · 23/06/2014 18:12

lillian that's a very good assessment and as i missed a lot of that background as i wasn't listening during much of that time it's very helpful

so do you think because roy has taken on much of the work that nigel was doing this has blurred the lines in elizabeth's mind? and then she remembers that he isn't nigel and is "beneath" her

Hakluyt · 23/06/2014 18:12

I just think it's soooo ridiculous that we are supposed to accept the fact that they are a man and a woman working closely together as enough backstory for them shagging in a tent at a festival. And rather insulting and patronising. And misogynist.

I think Vicky's pregnancy and Beth's early days were handled very well- apart from the rose tinted spectacles- no feeding difficulties, no worrying health problems.....But Mike's part was very well written.

StandsOnGoldenSands · 23/06/2014 18:13

Maybe I'll just have a LITTLE listen to the omnibus .... Blush

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/06/2014 18:14

Ignore that - (I didn't actually articulate what I was thinking.)

LillianGish · 23/06/2014 18:18

Waves to zero.

LillianGish · 23/06/2014 18:26

Almost exactly that Petula. I think all this working together in a companionable way and being able to lean on him is reminding her of Nigel - I don't think she thinks he's beneath her, just that he is Roy of the rotas and not her type at all ( and certainly not Nigel!)

LillianGish · 23/06/2014 18:28

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think I might actually love this thread even more than the actual programme Thanks

mrsjavierbardem · 23/06/2014 18:29

mmm yes, Lizzie uptheduff by Dweawy Woy!
Oh god the boredom of her anguishing o'er what t'dwwwidbairn!
oh god help me the dullness of the Archers, it's so terrible it's good.
The acting and writing is shocking at the moment and my 'umble op, except for the GLORIOUS MATT. he wipes wipes wipes wipes the floor with the lot of em even when the write badly.
Who are the writers at the moment?
Honestly, is it being written by a computer program? I wouldn't be surprised. The terrible predictability, even of TONE, the way the younger females always have this dry sardonic take on everything which comes from the actress who left and went to the Office and America and is Jasper Carrot's daughter.
And the awful awful Rob I can't bear him.
And the abominable new Tony.
Actually Brian can act and David isn't terrible but Gill and her comedy whooping and dreary Rooth and the bloody road, build that road straight through RUTH PLEASE

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/06/2014 19:17

Charlie's going to feel the heat on top of that bonfire....

Abra1d · 23/06/2014 19:39

I wouldn't say that, Alice, for example, has a dry sardonic tone. She seems very gushy.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 23/06/2014 19:40

Justin Elliott will be the guy.

Mike re-introduced, I see, but no Vicky as yet. Hmm. If Roy and Hayley split up that will be messy given that Mike has made over half of his house to them as a couple - or was it just to Roy? Anyway, who would get to stay in the house?

It is completely unthinkable that Roy could actually end up living at LL - I hope.

I hope we'd get to hear Brenda telling Roy what she thought of his behaviour.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 23/06/2014 19:43

Actually, if Roy did live at LL, I wonder how his relationship with Freddie and Lily would go. I would love to see it turn out like Barry Lyndon, ie vile stepfather turfed out on his ear when abused stepson reaches his majority.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 23/06/2014 19:44

Ooh! Do you think ambridge is going to turn all wicker man? Watch out pc burns (clue was in the name all along)!!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 23/06/2014 19:47

Good grief, I hope not! I'm struggling now not to imagine the people of Ambridge dancing round the bonfire in the altogether.

Hakluyt · 23/06/2014 19:50

Peggy's going to commit suicide. You heard it here first.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/06/2014 19:52

I had a very slight feeling of foreboding - are they planning to disappear Vicky and Bethany? If, as Bethany gets older Vicky feels she'll have a better life in Brum - unless Mike would agree to move too.... Hmmm ....
