yes cuttedpear It's obviously a SW ploy to have poor old darrell chucked out from the stables .I didn't put Shula down as SUCH a control freak; i'm getting pee'd off with this.

I think Nic has the patience of a saint. Why doesnt she tell Emma to stop bitching?

I too am finding the Darrell and Saint Shula storyline to be utterly tedious.

Her going to pieces over his looking at a lock that needed fixing at lunchtime was pathetic.

I think the problem is that she hadn't thought it through (see also comment on House Rules). Darrell has been wandering around the village asking for work. Shula said that there was none at the stables. She can't suddenly now discover work that did need doing all along.
However, if she was really kind, she could find a way through. Mumble something about not noticing the rotten wood and let Darrell get on with feeling he is not a sponger, he is a useful member of society again.

I too am finding the Darrell and Saint Shula storyline to be utterly tedious.

Doesn't that go for a lot of the storylines atm? It's a by-product of this concentrating on one or two stories/characters and thereby losing the 'wholeness' of village life.

Agree about Nic and Emmur; Nic is too diplomatic round her (though it's understandable) about time Ed jnr. had a word with his wife (OMG i just had a thought are they married?)

FlowersGood luck PseudoFlowers

Why am I the only person who understood enjoyed Sunday at the stables? I thought it was excellent. Darrell's desperate anxiety was, imo, beautifully portrayed. And Shula's inability to cope with someone in such a state of neediness, shock and trauma only made things worse. Every time she gave him another direction about how to be - "sit here"; "go there" he was (and I was) terrified that she wanted to have "the talk". About "finding somewhere else." Brilliant and excruciating.

Yes thinking about it you're right but Shula is a mother of a teenager FFS she should have some idea maybe she's trying too hard with Darrell.

Report
Somethingyesterday · 07/10/2013 09:48

Thing is Shula's teenager has never been in need. In fact I doubt she has ever come across anyone - socially - who has as little as he does. No rich family to fall back on; no years and years of the sort of schooling that helps to build in resilience and ... is "moral fibre" what I mean? Darrell clearly bends with every wind; it's got him into so much trouble before. It doesn't seem to make a difference to him whether power is being exerted for good or evil - he seems always to place himself in a subservient position.

Oh, no - I don't think Ed and Emma are married. Which is probably part of why she's so lemon-y with Nic. I think she and Ed would have to run away and get married very quietly, far away.

Re Peggy - completely agree that she often takes a questionable stance on things. But she's not incapable of learning. Didn't she make an exception for some recent church event?

Nic can snap - she did before her personality transplant with George. Bit snide of Ed to say poppy was a funny looking thing too - I never get why people think he's so wonderful.

Oh yes MrsCB - I couldn't believe they were all being so unkind in the pub and sniggering about the baby's name. Although Will is insufferable.

Oops it is indeed Darrell. I've never seen it spelled like that Blush

Something that's what Ed n' Emm SHOULD do but wouldn't Emm want a 'showy' wedding?

There are people with weak personalities from every walk of life it's just that Darrell has no back up as you say. Though very wealthy families do sometimes 'kick' out certain members.

Agree about Ed jnr. MrsCampbell* he is sexier than Will though. Grin

Grin Re name spellings! I've spelt almost every name three different ways at least here. Sometimes I look them up on the BBC site - but then I forget what I've read....

Ed really is lovely. But the SWs don't know it and are including him in the generic character wipe-out.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/10/2013 12:47

It could just be that Poppy really is a funny-looking baby - some are you know. The SW are setting up a long game of similar-aged cousins - the beauteous Keira will nick boyfriends off the feisty little Poppy (and/or vv)

Anyone else think we are heading for some sort of health problem with Poppy? Nic was enthusing about how lucky they are to have a HEALTHY baby (subtext...unlike Bethany).

Ironic if Poppy ends up with some horrid illness....imagine if she died...why us, it's not fair, wail, wail, ... (subtext it should have happened to Bethany not our perfect (pink) Poppy...)

I feel very mean suggesting it. But SWs have to get their ideas from somewhere.

You may right choccy she was quite mean about Bethany too wasn't she?

I reckon poppy will be the beauty of the family - nic and will are clearly not as gorgeous as emmur and ed, and well, I reckon they'll switch the roles for the next generation.

Emmur is very proud of being a looker and she would not be able to cope if Poppy has more material stuff than keira and is also prettier than her.

I do so wish Ed had stuck with Fallon.

Sorry to butt in, I am only able to listen to The Archers in short bursts.

A couple of months ago there was a storyline about a woman having a relationship with a man - she was a single mother because she kept having to ask her Mum to babysit, and she pretended she was going to jewellry classes. Why coouldn't she just tell her Mum the truth? And...after she gave her Mum a necklace that she pretended she had made, did the predicatable happen and her Mum saw one the same in the shop?

Could somene kindly fill me in? Thank you!

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 07/10/2013 16:23

Blu - the single mother is Helen, she can't tell her mother (Pat Archer) the truth because the bloke she's having the affair with is Rob, the herd manager for Brian's mega dairy - a married man but also a Big Farma, so organic Pat and Tony don't like him.

Helen's duplicity nearly came to light when Pat entered the necklace in the Ambridge show, and Lynda arrived wearing identical item - Rob headed her off at the pass, heroically pretending to be fascinated by llamas.

There, hope that makes sense Grin
