New thread for the beginning of the pheasant season.

they do like an OTT fire drama on the Archers Grin

Somethingyesterday · 05/10/2013 13:49

Ah! Yes - that horse business was nasty. I think I was quite worried for peoples' safety. And David's conversation with his mother afterwords - having thought she might die - was quite touching.

LondonMother · 05/10/2013 14:56

Yes, they like super-dramatic stuff but what they don't take into account is that the pictures in our heads only go so far. It's usually super-confusing what's happening. When Kathy was raped, it was actually extremely clear what was happening, which made it particularly harrowing to listen to. But when the special effects team are playing every crackly fire noise tape they've found in the BBC sfx library and half a dozen actors are shouting over the top, it just gets muddled. Stick to change-counting, BBC!

Somethingyesterday · 05/10/2013 15:56

Agree about pictures in our heads. I don't generally watch TV so TA does tend to stick in my head. For years.....

(Usually cba to correct mis-types but I meant "afterwards" above...)

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2013 16:11

BTW my idea for a Village Hall fire was a joke (in case we're being read by producers or SWs of TA) Pleese don't bring TA down to the level of effing Hollyoaks.

I said that because the GBBO thread is being read by someone who's working on the show!!! Shock

Dillytante · 05/10/2013 16:23

Marking thread for later - I'm an omnibus listener :)

Bluestocking · 05/10/2013 20:25

Hi Somethingyesterday! No, not lost on my way somewhere else. It's quite fun to dislike soap characters, and doesn't carry the guilt of disliking real people. I just find Jill simperingly bland, and because she is neither witty nor cursed with major character flaws, she never gets any good lines. There's a limit to how many differnt ways an actor can say "that was a lovely sermon, Alan".
I do like Lyndibots, and Susan "Radio" Carter, and Lilian and Matt, and Brian and Jennydarling, and Hellqueen, for all sorts of different reasons. I am looking forward to the denouement of Hellqueen's lying about the jewellery classes - imagine having the rainbow necklace of Damocles hanging over your head. Or has that already happened? My listening is a bit sporadic.
Does anyone else feel terribly sorry for Kirsty, having declared that she's always loved the Sausage Baron? What a terrible fate, brought on (I'm sure) only by the shortage of eligible men in Ambridge.

Somethingyesterday · 05/10/2013 21:01

Fair enuff..... I guess Jill has been a little underwritten since Phil died. (As well as superhumanly fit and well.) I think of her as quite a strong character but admit that isn't generally made audible.

Don't get me started (again) on the Tom and Kirstie nonsense....

PseudoBadger · 05/10/2013 21:05

Ah yes Jill's staple roles. Honey or bees? Stir up Sunday? Church? Better call Saul Jill :o

OP posts:
Bluestocking · 05/10/2013 21:14

Oh yes, Pseudo, Stir Up Sunday must be almost upon us. Jill will be making 30,000 cakes and puddings for her family of non-cooking gannets. Pip will doubtless return from wherever it is she has gone to have a stir and share a Hallmark moment with Gran. We will all have a little chuckle about Rooth's shortcomings in the cooking department, and become a little teary-eyed thinking about Phil and how much he loved playing the church organ for the Christingle service.

PseudoBadger · 05/10/2013 21:22

Kirsty was written up very well over on the 'new' ML board.
So basically she's been kept in Ambridge for Tom. Kept in a dead end several part time jobs black hole (one of which ensures constant Tom contact), given several boyfriends to show she's attractive, ripe to become 'the one' once Tom has stopped all that Brenda nonsense. They'll be married soon with a sprog on the way.

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 06/10/2013 08:46

Good I LIKE Kirsty and Tom is not that bad Grin BTW what's your news on the sprog front psuedo ?????

PseudoBadger · 06/10/2013 08:51

If I make it through today then I turn up at hospital tomorrow at 12pm and await my section....

Bon Chance Psued Grin `I really liked the ending of TA omni (even a little a tear Shock) Do we reckon that Darrell is going to take up Shula's offer NOW?

HerbertGistcool · 06/10/2013 13:18

Marking my place

MrsCampbellBlack · 06/10/2013 16:41

What's with all the mentions of fb from Shula etc - has someone been on a social media course or something?

Pseudo - good luck! I loved my electives.

Swannykazoo · 06/10/2013 19:25

I'm grinding my teeth at this subtext that Darryl has never been in a naice house with a sit down Sunday lunch as a family
However Emmur being an bitching witch is always enjoyable I find

CuttedUpPear · 06/10/2013 22:21

What the jeff is wrong with Shula? Why can't she accept Darryl as a houseguest and just get on with things? Her going to pieces over his looking at a lock that needed fixing at lunchtime was pathetic.

R4 · 06/10/2013 23:32

Jill is so bland and nothing. She's not even good for Stir Up Sunday now that the grandchildren have grown up. The SUS crown was passed to Clarrie a few years ago.

I think that Shula and Darrell need to have a chat about House Rules. They seem have no idea on how to 'be' when the other is around.

Good luck Pseudo!

TheSilverySoothsayer · 07/10/2013 01:09

They are both mightily embarrassed.

But wait till Darren gets his tools back and shows what he is made of Grin

TheSilverySoothsayer · 07/10/2013 01:11

(Hmm. You might imagine a stables would have some tools. But not as good as Darryl's. (I seem to have Endora (from Bewitched) Syndrome.)

kiriwawa · 07/10/2013 05:07

Aha - here you all are Smile

Finally Tom'n'Kirsty! I suspect that this will make Hellin desperate to bring her and rob into the open. Can't wait for rainbow necklace gate and hope sanctimonious Pat refuses to babysit ever again Grin

I do like Peggy but found her `no female vicar' stance a bit hard to stomach. I think the Darryl storyline is going to be resolved at Xmas. What's happened to his other daughter incidentally?
