I was so happy to find out about the Colchester Plumbers site and I rushed to find it and bookmark it for future use.
Today I found that I somehow managed to forget to download last weeks omnibus . Normally this would have me raging against the machine .

But no!

I have an alternative that I have saved and tested so I can listen to last weeks omnibus at my leisure. So off I pottered to my bookmareked site and confidently scrolled down to last weeks date.

Aaaarrrgh. There is nothing there .

Does anyone use the site regularly and can tell me when it usually gets updated?

Please Xmas Grin

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2013 10:07

sorry ineedanexcuse i use the 'play it again' site.londonmother

Well written Londonmother Xmas Grin

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2013 10:14

Duh sorry for the above typos.

Songbird · 04/12/2013 13:43

ineed I think it just takes time. I missed one a while back and got fed up waiting. I think all I missed was Rob dumping Hellin! I generally listen again on iplayer, but i missed a couple of months worth in the summer and the Colchester Plumber was a godsend then! It was when I caught up that I was left waiting.

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 04/12/2013 14:21

Ah - think I see where the Jill story is going now. (Given that an Archers insider said it would be long and gruelling...)

When my DM was in the stroke ward her neighbour (another stroke recoverer) was a woman who had lost her sight after delaying cataract treatment. It was just left too late.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/12/2013 14:57

I'm hoping that as she thinks her new glasses are helping she will drive again & kill somebody (pref Darrell) Grin

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2013 16:43

Wouldn't the optician have spoken like a 'dutch uncle' to Jill to make the urgency of the treatment known to her?

Bluestocking · 04/12/2013 19:28

How does a dutch uncle speak, ppeat?
Good stuff, Londonmonther!

ErrolTheDragon · 04/12/2013 20:32

I quite liked the Jill and Jim bits this evening.

curlew · 04/12/2013 21:34

Jill's got a toyboy!

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 04/12/2013 21:57

Shameless! And her daughter's fil! It's probably illegal to be caught inflagr in a car with him.

curlew · 04/12/2013 22:02

Bizarrely I had forgotten he was Alasdair's dad- I wash just thinking "wow- a normal sort of relationship in ambridge! Amazing!"

I've just remembered that Jim is another personality transplant- he was awful at first.........

ppeatfruit · 05/12/2013 07:38

Bluestocking The dutch uncle wags his finger and is strict as if Lynda had caught a boy throwing stones at her llamas!

Ah but Jim was in a lot of pain when he first moved to Amb. curlew but you're right he's turned into a lovely kind old man; is Jazzer still staying with him? perhaps he could have Darryl as well Xmas Grin I'll listen this aft. to last night's.

ppeatfruit · 05/12/2013 07:43

Blimey Jim and Jill en flagrante!!!! ZeroSome Xmas Shock !!

Gigondas · 05/12/2013 08:22

I liked Jill and Jim too. He has got more normal but I still like that has touch of eccentricity (row with jenny over book club)

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 05/12/2013 08:30

Boggles don't it?

Re Jim (can you believe I fell asleep thinking about this last night?) - I think it's a natural rather than a SW imposed metamorphosis.

I wish I could remember whether it was bereavement or illness that brought him to Ambridge - but I do remember that he stayed with Alistair and Shula for a time. Found Shula insufferable and Alistsir somewhat cowed and boring. I dare say he was tetchier than usual, being enforcedly away from home, and rather lashed the yokels with his tongue.

And Phil was the official Anbridge brain - so there was no room for another.

And of course there was the struggle for the soul of Daniel (long before he became Dan and everyone realised he had no soul to save...)

He's settled into his niche now. Seen off Phil. Monopolised Christine.... I think having Jazzer move in was a master-stroke. But he still only does stuff that benefits him - so I don't think Darrell can expect any help from that quarter.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 05/12/2013 08:45

Didn't he break his leg or something?

curlew · 05/12/2013 08:52

He originally came to stay because he had broken his leg. But he had been awful before- Shula was dreading him coming. Can't remember why he decided to stay. And why he gave up lecturing on cruises......you would have thought you could go on doing that forever. He used to be a fantastic intellectual snob- but he's been dumbed down. As well as made nicer. Like all the irascible characters. It's as if the script writes think we can't hack a bit of normal, as opposed to psychopathic, nastiness.

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 05/12/2013 09:01

Thanks for the broken leg both.

I dunno curlew. Perhaps I'm a bit like Jim. Dragged into an unfamiliar and unwelcome situation I might well try intellectual sniping as a defence. Until I found myself disliked and decided to try harder to fit in. You do dumb down if no-one else can keep up. Been there.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 05/12/2013 09:13

Jim was also, of course, something of a lefty, which was all part and parcel of him being annoying.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/12/2013 10:05

He has got more normal but I still like that has touch of eccentricity
Probably about as normal as a retired Classics professor could ever achieve Grin

But he still only does stuff that benefits him
Not sure that's fair - he does quite a bit of good stuff just manages to do it without being all martyred.

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 05/12/2013 10:33

Agree he's often ready to step in - but only if there's some entertainment, amusement or bitching to be got out of whatever it is.

I do hope Christine is not going to have her feelings hurt.

ppeatfruit · 05/12/2013 10:59

Yes Errol He mixes with all the villagers; remember he's helping to preserve the apple orchard zero?

curlew agree about soap SWs only liking truly awful characters as if we are too effing stupid to understand subtlety. Maybe it's them Xmas Grin

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/12/2013 11:05

Jim has a lovely relationship with Joe
