Archers - It's time to put it down like a TB riddled badger

I have been a devoted listener for a fair few years. I have cried, cheered, and giggled through various ups and downs.
But I am now finding it so depressing. With the current episodic storylines - which are all quite unpleasant - you no longer get that lovely feeling that you are eavesdropping on a community that you would quite like to live in.
It just feels a bit nasty. It also feels a bit like Eastenders.

It feels ridiculous to be sad, but the good people of Ambridge have been my companions all the way through having very young children. They felt like friends when I hadn't had. Grown up conversation all day.

Hopefully this will pass and I can come back when they' ve finished mucking it up.

Don't worry artex the woe will be over soon; did you hear David saying they'll need a freelance for their herd of cows? I said upthread why TF didn't Ed ask David for work. The s.w.'s are deliberately extending the misery IMO. Grin

Do you think Lizzy's a bit of a catch, financially?

Lower Loxley is tied up in trust for nice-but-dim Freddie. I'm assuming that in about a decade's time there will be A Terrible Falling Out between him and his brain-box, female twin about the unfairness of it all.
Thinking about it, I haven't heard Lizzie twittering on about getting the Trustees' permission for the conversion.

Lizzie still has her share of Brookfield of course.

I've told you what the next misery should be: I want a flood story!

GrendelsMum · 27/11/2012 10:29

I wonder if someone could think that Lizzie has the cash herself, not realising that it's all Freddie's? I'd like to hear Lizzie being screwed over for cash by an attractive toyboy.

Mind you, you could marry her and live rent free in a stately home for the rest of your life, judging by Lewis.

and her going cold turkey to live with his half brother

Arf. I mis-read that as 'her leaving the turkey to go cold on the Christmas lunch table as she goes to live with his half-brother'. Now that would be dramatic.

The Matt and Lillian thing is complicated: she is the 'respectable' face of Amside since he is disbarred from being a Director so he won't let her go easily. Unless he sacks her and appoints Brenda to be his patsy instead. Except that the worm turns and Bren outstrips her mentor in Corporate Nastiness and becomes the new village Baddie, grinding Tom (whom she has long since dumped) into the dirt as she goes.

Ooops, got a bit carried away there. Grin

Also doesn't Matt live in Lilian's house R.4?

I don't think you're being too far fetched (well maybe a bit she HATES Matt. Grin) because I've thought for a long time that Brenda doesn't reciprocate Tom's feelings, she's a passenger in their relationship IYSWIM I was surprised that they were engaged and talking about the wedding (either it happened on Ambex or I missed the episode Grin.

Bren seems happy to jog along as they are. Tom is trying to escalate things with talk of weddings & self-builds and it is spooking her. Hurry up and dump him, Bren. You should be are worthy of better than Tom.

With EdnEmm leaving Rickyard are we going to get yet more new residents into the village, to squeeze out the ever-growing contingent of sporadically-silent charcters? Sad

OOH is that what was going on with the love hearts and stuff at Tom and Bren's that Matt walked into?

but the flood 'll be six weeks late

they managed to fit a topical insert (I think that's what they call them) about the rain in last night, when Ed & David were wrangling some cows

Borsetshire = Worcs supposedly, & they've had some of the worst of it, so it's about time Grin

I'm going to listen this afternoon ponders did young Ed (was it young Ed?) say 'gissa job' to David?

Report
GrendelsMum · 27/11/2012 12:38

No, better than that, PPeatfruit.

Oooh, I'd love it if Brenda took Lilian's place as respectable face of Amside and Ground the Faces of the Poor.

OOh goody thanks GrendelsMum So am I to infer that the misery is over for EdnEm?

Grin about evil Brenda!

When I said 'better', I meant they sank further into misery. Smile

Sadly I still suspect that rescue is just around the corner.

Yes, Lewis was Nigel's step father. He and Julia married very late in life and then she died comparatively young.

I turned on just in time to hear that- I'd have said 'filthy laugh' Grin. I've missed that sound! Loved that she got home to an apparently contrite Matt making dinner.

I love Lillian.
If they turn her into "depressed and angst-ridden Lillian" I will be most upset.

It really is all a bit of a misery-fest at the moment, isn't it?

I loved how when Matt said she must have had an exhausting day she said, well yes, it was pretty tiring Grin. She's still got plenty of, ahem, energy, for a 65 year old :)
