my dc's have an ipod touch each [dd2/ds] they are very good, but don't get the 8g ds has this and it don't hold much once you add a film or two, dd2 is a 32g much better

suzie38 · 15/12/2011 23:01

So you don't need WiFi then???

suzie38 · 15/12/2011 23:02

DH had an ipod when he used to run as it connected to a chip in his running shoes.

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 15/12/2011 23:05

Nooooo you don't. Only to surf the Internet with. You can stack an iPod / iPad with educational software, games, music, videos etc by connecting it to your PC.

OP posts:
PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 15/12/2011 23:08

no, but you would not be able to go onto the internet off it i think, but you can still down load everything onto it using the lead so listen to music, watch pre loaded films etc, but to get the full use out of it you i think you would need wifi.

BrassMonkeyBaubles · 15/12/2011 23:08

Those 32G iPods are quite a lot of money though! Though I take your point about the memory and films...maybe in a few years when they're less money. They are excellent educational tools, and loads of fun. Great for kids of all ages I think.

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 15/12/2011 23:09

We only use wifi for me to surf the Internet. If I didn't do that, we would still use all the Apps.

iPod touch kids apps look fab.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 15/12/2011 23:14

we bought the 32g a few years ago and they have really jumped up in price since then, i would not be buying one now, would rather get an ipad, dd1 did ask for an ipad, but when she found out that the rest of her list would not be happening she changed her mind. i may get her one for her birthday instead, bless her, it must of been the thought of only having one item to open on xmas morning from us Xmas Grin

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 15/12/2011 23:27

Everything by Duck Duck Moose is fab. We have the lot! Great stuff!

Can anyone recommend a couple of good apps?

suzie38 · 16/12/2011 06:35

Are they quite sturdy??? I'd worry that DD would break it...Are they easy to figure out??? As i'm not hugely technical with computers.

FriggFRIGGYPudding · 16/12/2011 08:29

They are sooooo easy to work out, just follow the instructions!
DDis currently playing the Peppa pig app,she knows where it is on the pad and flicks through to find it,then follows the instructions through the game to find her favourite bit....it does seem quite sturdy,BUT, we are buying her the Innotab as we are too nervous she'll break it!!!

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 16/12/2011 09:06

ipod touches seem quite sturdy, but dd deletes apps off it, don't know how!!!! dp does everything with it ie down loads etc, i am not tech minded, my sis is giving me her old iphone and dp is jokeing that i won't be able to make or take a call on it, as i am so rubbish Xmas Hmm the problem is, he is prob right Xmas Blush
frigg that reminds me, have you got the vtech mains adaptor, you will need it, as i have heard they eat batteries, i got mine from argos for about a tenner

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 16/12/2011 09:22

I'll run through some of our apps later for you Frigg. DD loves the Peppa Pug ones too. There's three I think. Like I said search for Duck duck moose - there's several and both children love them. Fish school is good and we like incy wincy spider. But DD somehow has taught herself to write, do numbers up to 20 and beyond, how to spell etc on it. I like that even if Apps are deleted, that you simply plug the iPad back into your computer to restore them.
Suzie, we invested in a good leather case for the iPad and I bet it gets dropped once a day if not more. It's so far survived. We put it on the floor for DS to bash. DD gets up every morning an hour before us, goes upstairs and unplugs it and plays for an hour on it. I can see what she did if I want but she usually tells us. We have things in folders eg all stories, maths, Christmas. I put two new games on last night and she's literally just arrived and told us about them. She knows how to play them better than us!! She can't add anything new because it's passworded. But it's an amazing tool for both children.

In the iPad there are settings where you can prevent things from being deleted by setting a pin code or password. Maybe if you look in settings the same can be done for the iPod.
Found a fab app last night, it's called "Memodies" and is best played with headphones. Glass towers is also brilliant.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 16/12/2011 09:55

i bearly touch the ipods, but thanks will get dp to have a look. we did nearly lose it the other week, i let dd watch a film on the way to school, while at school dd1 turned up, very lucky she did, because dd4 dropped the ipod, another child picked it up, who was standing next to dd and her mum told her to stick it in her pocket Shock, dd1 saw this and told her excuse me that's ours, cheeky bloody mere Angry

BrassMonkeyBaubles · 16/12/2011 10:16

There are apps to track missing iPods/iPads/iPhones they will only remain effective if you have a pin screen locking the device...otherwise a person finding it or stealing can factory reset and wipe the tracking app. If they can't get past your screen lock its harder for them to factory reset. Once connected to a computer or wireless service the app can locate accurately on a map the whereabouts of your device providing it is on still.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 16/12/2011 10:23

yes, they can be tracked, but the ipods are not locked Xmas Hmm but i now don't allow them out of the house, unless we are going straight in the car and then i look after them when out of the car. i have learnt my lesson, almost the hard way too, i am far too honest and expect others to be the same, stupid i know Xmas Blush
my parcel from the us has stopped being tracked since it departed phonex on the 9th, now i have not got a clue where it is Xmas Hmm i doubt its going to be here before xmas now Xmas Sad

BrassMonkeyBaubles · 16/12/2011 10:29

Oh it might get here....still a whole week before Xmas....
I am wondering if my (ds's) Easywalker will get here? It ought to be dispatched today, hopefully according to shipping details on the website.
Post is running remarkably efficiently here at the moment. I've been to the post office several times this week (eBay and general Xmas post) and not had to queue more than a few minutes each time!!! Xmas Shock

Bargain Urban Jungle 2010 versions on sale at www.babyjungle.nl are these pre Phil and Ted takeover? There's a few left it seems....

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 16/12/2011 10:40

Hmm i thought they did not come with a bumper bar if pre 2010, it was an extra, but i could be wrong.
i hope your easywalker comes soon, i hate having to wait for things to arrive.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 16/12/2011 11:01

that one has the new logo as well, at the moment mb have a terrain double in their sale bit that is pre 2010 and it has a different logo on the footplate. hth

above my pre2010 that i had, with even older logo, i am sure the twin mountain lines are 2010 onwards. so not pre 2010

BrassMonkeyBaubles · 16/12/2011 11:21

I had contacted babyjungle before placing my order yesterday asking about the Easywalker sky or qtro....they have just responded saying infact they would recommend the mountain buggy and are holding my order just in case I would like to change to the mb. They say the mb wheels and frame are better than the Easywalker!!! I'm not sure what to do now.... Help!
I'm worried the mb may not be so good on quality as older models....Tiggy I neeeedd your help. Will the mb wheels be better? Does anyone know if mb wheels do this /-\ at all?

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 16/12/2011 11:45

I bought my Easywalker as a direct result of seeing the poor workmanship and finish on the Mountain Buggy Duet. Mine was simply awful - threads that hadn't caught, threads that needed cutting off, pink foam sticking out, rough rivets, messy stitching, a lck that wouldn't undo / lock easily, a possibly twisted chassis, lcking hoods, the hole in the hood, a bumper bar that kept falling off and more. However the +One is very good apart from the small D rings and it's restored my faith a bit in MB products. But the Easywalkers seem to be very sturdy, good quality more canvas type fabrics and I can't fault the two Easywalkers that I have had apart from the sun visor on the double. But I also do not do serious off roading - the beach, lake, park and unmade bumpy pot holey roads is the best we get. I don't know about the wheels at all on MBs.
Certainly the older MBs have the green one hill tree logo (as on the left of the advert) and as someone said, no bumper bars. I would say those are new Chinese MBs.

The one thing which you have kept saying is re taking the pushchair on a bus folded. There's no way I woud a) want to fold the MB on a street to get on a bus. You need to remove the child, fold two handed from the front, then run round the back and do the easy but fiddly clip up to hold it all together. Then the MB will stand on its end but they all have tall, long folds. I wouldn't like to carry it onto a bus either. I took a photo of DD by the +One box because it was way taller than she is. The Easywalker Qtro, and the Duo (I can't look the Sky up without losing this) folded very neatly, easily and compactly. The Duo has one of the best double folds. The Qtro has a lock too. I could easily do that probably even holding my child's hand (even though it's two handed) stood up rather than the bending down to the floor you need to do for the MB.

Personally I think you get more for your money with the Easywalkers. I love the quality of the Easywalkers. The attention to detail is far better than the MBs eg the recline, storage, footplate. I know the MBs are made of I think steel and aeroplane grade aluminium, but I also know the frames do get twisted (and untwisted). I don't know about the Easywalkers. All I know is that getting the Qtro after the Duet restored my faith that there were good quality products on the market and the Duet was a one off lemon.
