is she seeing anyone about her speech, the reason i ask is the earlier she has speech theropy the better. i had a fight getting ds seen, useless hv but got there in the end and they told me the earlier the better, i was quick to point out i had been trying, he had a hearing was tested first though to rule that out.

suzie38 · 29/11/2011 23:05

I'm surprised DD is being seen so soon is because the nursery nurse who came to do the assessment could only tick 2 things on her list...Maybe our SLT aren't very busy at the moment because i was warned of a 6 months waiting list so had considered going private...DD had her hearing test last week and passed...Incidentely some very quiet sounds she didn't hear but i certainly did.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 29/11/2011 23:15

thats good then, ds had small group to begin with and then him and 2 others, then him and one other child, he was a bit a pain though and i had the looks from the other mum, as my ds was flapping and jumping around the room while her ds sat very nicely at the table Blush they then changed it to him on his own and then discharged, lots of homework, things to do at home inbetween appointments. but it worked wonders on his speech and quiet quickly, he still can not say somethings like crisps, but its def much better, he can now sound all his letters out, just putting them together but he needs to think before he rushes to speak, but some of this could be due to his asd.

suzie38 · 29/11/2011 23:20

Ours is a group session next week...Banned DH from coming as DD often acts babyish if he's around and due to his quite severe deafness, i'll be continually shouting things out to him which i'm sure will annoy the others in the room, because i get fed up of repeating myself!!! DD can't say much more than 10 words at the moment but does understand everything and can now recognise R, which her name begins with.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 29/11/2011 23:26

get ready for the homework you will get handed, its a pain, i would be sat at home sounding out the letters almost to myself as ds ran up and down the room, but some of it went in and it did help tons, you could tell who had not bothered doing it though.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 29/11/2011 23:31

they teach them where to put their tongue for certain letters and mouth movements etc like ooooo eeeeee tttttttt

suzie38 · 29/11/2011 23:32

Bloody hell i hate homework!!!

suzie38 · 29/11/2011 23:33

And i've slacked on eBay as i have 38 credits left to use up by tomorrow!!!

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 29/11/2011 23:35

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 29/11/2011 23:36

suzie38 · 29/11/2011 23:40

No, that finished a while ago...No it's the free 100 lisings you get each calendar month for items 99p or less including relisings.

suzie38 · 29/11/2011 23:41

Well said bear sat on the sofa and watched tv all weekend!!!

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 29/11/2011 23:43

i thought that had finished but not sure if it had just finished for me and now offered to different people. that was handy, i got dd2 a lunchbag with my last lot of points that i would not have got otherwise. it was a bit pricey for a lunchbag but as i had the points i got it.

I gained quite a lot of points...Wonder how many people were part of the scheme as the intro letter implied that only so many people were chosen...The listing thing i think everyone gets but probably doesn't realise because it was a while before i did plus learnt most of the rules.

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 30/11/2011 00:24

I had to do tons of speech therapy with a child I used to look after. It was fascinating. I am glad we had a diagnosis for DS at birth because he's had everything and everyone from birth. His care has been outstanding. This week alone we will have had two OTs, the HV and Portage. Next week it's one of his 3 speech therapists! He's only 16 months.

Hmmm how do you discover if you had EBay credits???

The car is all packed for tomorrow. The tyres on the +one took forever to blow up as the pump was faulty! As I took it to the car, I realised the red brake caps rattle. I need to go and read up on the solution to stop them!

It's in the last box of the selling page when you scroll down to the bottom...I've used the credits as i call them 62 times and have 38 left...But items need to be auction and listed at 99p or less plus it doesn't seem to like the word bundle in the title because then it started charging me for those.

aswellasyou · 30/11/2011 11:11

My gosh, there are a lot of diagnoses between all of you and your children! My daughter makes no attempt to speak at all. She's only 14 months so I'm not worried yet. She's also not into copying noises I make so I can't seem to teach her words or sounds either, although she does make sounds herself. When do you think I should go to our GP if she's still not saying anything? You all seem to be the experts! Grin

thisisyesterday · 30/11/2011 11:26

if you still have 2 year checks in your area then that's a good time to mention it if she still isn't saying anything, but 14 months is very young still so i wouldn't get worried at all yet :)

ds2 was referred at 2 and a half and was under audiology for a year and is currently having speech therapy. He was discharged from audiology following ONE good hearing test Hmm and now needs referring back as clearly can't hear me now I have to try and track a HV down again which is no mean feat round here.

aswellasyou · 30/11/2011 11:38

I think they do have 2 year checks. I'll be back in my old area when she turns two so I can't ask her current HV (who I've not actually met) since it won't be him/her doing it. I suspect she'll be fine, just a bit slower than her friends. Or she may suddenly start talking into sentences at 20 months, around the same time she decides to walk. Wink

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 30/11/2011 14:02

well i am not cut out for compact pushchairs, i am just dangerous, i forget they don't [well my citisport] go up slightly rased drop kerbs, it was a good job she was strapped in or i would have catapulted her out, i came to a very sudden stop Blush
aswellasyou, yes two year check up, but saying that ds and even dd who refused to do any of the check and just repeated NO!!! and ds just climbed and ran about, and said 'onkey' passed that, so you do have to push them and don't take no for an answer.
my hv is useless Sad and ds gets no support at all, just a little in school and a yearly check up/meet up with his consaltant, its a case of yes he has asd hes going to struggle and goodbye Sad it's a constant fight

TruthSweet · 30/11/2011 16:29

TIY - I have been saying since DD1's 2y check that I had queries over her hearing. No joy in getting a test even though I asked on and off until they finally said 'well she'll get one in her first year of school so we'll do it then'. She didn't pass that in March and I have been waiting since then to get a re-test. WE have an appt for Dec. nearly 4 years after I first asked....

aswellasyou · 30/11/2011 16:39

Thanks for that, I'll make sure I'm a pain in the bum persistant at asking for a referral if she's not getting anywhere with her speech by then. I'll take my Mum or Dad, they're very annoying persuasive! Wink

suzie38 · 30/11/2011 17:22

DD was 2 1/2 before they refered her...Flagged it up at the 2 year check when she was 2.1months and called 3 months later to see if there was progress but there wasn't...I nannied for Sam, who didn't talk until he was 2.10 months but went straight to short sentences.

thisisyesterday · 30/11/2011 17:25

that's terrible truth!

ds2 also had delayed speech, which i suppose helped my case. I actually didn't think there was anything wrong with his hearing, but said i'd like a hearing test anyway just to rule it out so they referred me,.

perhaps it depends who you see? I couldn;t find a HV so eventually turned up at a baby weigh-in session at s'gate children's centre and collared one of them there lol
