Have you read this about taking pushchairs to aircraft gates at Heathrow? It's hard enough managing a baby with a pushchair, without your pushchair having to be checked in! It can be a long long time from checking in to queuing through security, to hanging around before you even begin the long walk down to the gate! To be honest it would utterly put me off flying with a non walker. Why can't the baggage people simply have a trolley or hoist?
I feel really Grrrr about this one having travelled lots with babies. It's hard hard work especially on your own. My son is wayyyyy too heavy to sling.
So go on...today's challenge - what pushchairs do you know that weigh under 5kgs?
I have the Safety First Surf ......and what I guess will be the essential flying pushchair of the future...the Quinny Yezz......
Anything else??

Hello!

How ridiculous! If they want to impose a limit, it should be higher than 5kg. Do they not think then that it's a H&S risk to parents carrying a wriggly child who weighs more than 5kg? Hmm I'd be tempted to demand an escort car thingy to take me to the gate. Wink It wouldn't be fun sitting in an airport for 3 hours with a baby on your lap.

More than that, trying to restrain a wriggly crawling baby! I once got stuck at Gatwick with a baby...he would have been about 14 months old. He couldn't walk as yet. We had no luggage - simply hand luggage and the buggy. But at Gatwick they wouldn't give us the pushchair back (pretty usual on a return trip) and I had the longest walk of my life carrying him on my own. But as often happens the pushchairs being last on the plane end up being loaded onto the bottom of the baggage trolley, so arrive last. Trying to keep the baby safe from the moving carousels (never mind the filthy floor) with no seats and my arms already hanging off from the walk was awful. I almost abandoned the pushchair it was that bad. I can't imagine having to queue through security etc and then entertain an older for several hours with no pushchair. Trying to eat, go to the toilet on your own etc with say a 4 month old or napping 15 month old? Or even twins! It really is all my nightmares come at once!

Tiggy which slings have you tried? Wrap slings of the woven type (not moby stretch) are really useful and easily able to carry a child comfortably up to 25

Sorry, was interrupted by child who touched screen of mobile and uploaded before I had finished. Meant to put 25kg.
There are some fab buckle carriers to use also (easier to put on if your not used to the wrap style slings).
I like the babyhawk snap.
It may be easier on your back than no sling. Bjorns and other highstreet brand slings tend to be the least comfortable.
Alternative brands would be the Ergo, patapum, beco, didymos, storchenwiege, hiopediz...and there are many more.
I don't just mean a little more comfortable, i mean drastically different. Totally comfortable, and useful.

Tiggywunkle · 28/10/2011 15:23

I have had all sorts. The Ergo was one of the worst coz it hurt and the baby hugely overheated in spring. I had a Close one when they were little (fab) and have a Babyhawk at the minute. But I can't really use it. DS is too heavy for my front, wouldn't cope on my back, and I have back issues anyway. Carrying is an emergency option or us. The situation above happened some years ago. I used to travel loads on my own with children. But I can barely carry DS to the car at present never mind to an aeroplane!! Thank goodness it's just Gatwick and certain planes!

Cheap local preloved to tide you over???
I saw an all black Cameleon with bright pink hood on the drive home, it looked fantastic...I'm now hankering after one with all terrain wheels and Frog wheels plus i came across a lady online that was patenting a tray for them...Do you think DH would go mad??? Then i wouldn't need my Indie or Donkey plus sell the Xari, as i don't feel the love for it even if it is far more gorgeous than a Cameleon...Cameleon would very easily fit in car if back wheels removed...And i have 5 custom sets that are specifically Cameleon but used on everything else, well the liner/footmuffs are...I can't wait till pushchairs no longer inhabit my brain!!!

:( re the Xari. I did like the Chameleon. It's pretty. I bet black with the pink looked great. It was meant to be my one pushchair for life purchase until I realised I needed a double and it would have done that.
Frigg...I don't know what to suggest :( Buy something for the interim? Look at another option?

Got a reply from Nuna UK...Evidently JL will be carrying the whole range by the end of November but if i want it sooner, then they can do a CR and sell to me directly...Now i'm stumped as i'm not exactly in a rush but i was going to use Paypal and buy from The Netherlands.

DH seems to have taken my news well!!! Especially as it'll mean me selling 3 others so we won't have a crowded hallway!!! Just bought some Hungry Catapillar customs off eBay with my Paypal money as they'll fit the Donkey anyway for the time being...May as well wait i think, on the Nuna until it's in JL and see what price it'll be.
