Would my front door put you off buying my house?!

Just painted it. Colour is not quite what I was going for. I wanted a lighter dusky pink. Ive only done one coat. Do you think it's too much? It's a wooden door so can be re-painted by buyers. I'm putting my house up for sale soon.

It’s not difficult to change but it would give me preconceived ideas before I visit and I might find other stuff I didn’t like when I looked round, due to initial bias.

Itsthewoluff · 07/09/2026 15:54

And yes, next door’s door would worry me and make me think of hidden problems in yours.

The military used red flags to warn of danger, no safe passage or imminent battle, long before therapists used it. Therapists and counselling may have helped to popularise the phrase but it didn’t originate there.

Of course, but the key intent is to signal danger.

A dangerous door?

I love it!

It would be a plus for me.

Oh and the point about it making buyers think it's the same colour inside the house is concerning. It's all white/cream/beige inside. I dont want anyone to scroll past my house based on the door!

I could buy some new paint i guess but...trying to save money and not be wasteful.

In that case.. I'd take a look at John Lewis plain Curtain colours. for inspiration.. I think they'd all go with the lovely yellow stone.
If it was me I'd paint it duck egg blue or eau de nil. its softer and goes with the yellow.

However, I quite like the pink.

Maybe see if you can AI the colours to try it out.

godmum56 · 07/09/2026 16:11

I'd repaint but it wouldn't bother me.

Ar the other doors in the street different colours too ?
Round our way it's mainly white UPVC ( bit out of date now) , wooden or those grey doors with weirdly shaped glass and the long handles like a grab handle.

It would be handy though to identify your house as " the one with the pink door, you can't miss it "

RemindMeIn15Minutes · 07/09/2026 16:21

I love it!

UnderMirkwood · 07/09/2026 16:27

No the colour of your front door would not put me off, although I would repaint it. However, your windows would definitely put me off unless your house price reflected the cost of replacing them with sash or sash style windows.

LlynTegid · 07/09/2026 16:27

It would make me think a bit more and ask a few questions. Perhaps as to why the sale.

HambleTheDoll · 07/09/2026 16:29

A bit tbh. It looks so jarring with the house type. I’d be thinking that’ll need changing so money to be spent before I even stepped in the place

Sparrowsandbudgies · 07/09/2026 16:31

I really don’t like it and personally I’d paint it black but that’s just me.

MakeThatMakeSense · 07/09/2026 16:31

I like pink but I don't really think this works.

Also, is the framing painted pink too? I don't think that looks right. I think the framing should be crisp white.

It wouldn't put me off buying but I think some people may have a subconscious reaction.

The fact that the frame has also been painted pink would make me think it's not been done 'properly'. I'd think other things have also not been done properly (but then, I always assumed that any way)

Needtosellmyhousesoon · 07/09/2026 17:25

Gosh you've all given me food for thought! Would never have thought i had a 'red flag' door!

Also next door's door isn't wonky in real life, the pixellation has made it look like that!

I'll be showing the rightmove pictures of my house to relatives who've never visited (first house, moved away, etc) and i was looking forward to saying, "yes, that's my PINK front door!". But on the other hand I'd rather just paint it a colour that will sell better!

Lots of houses have the frame painted around here, but i did wonder if i painted that white it might tone down the pink a bit? Idk

Anyone who is put off by a front door was never a serious buyer. A front door is a very minor thing that can easily be painted or replaced if the buyer doesn’t like it.

savemysleep · 07/09/2026 17:51

I like it & besides easy to repaint

user1476613140 · 07/09/2026 17:53

Our next door neighbours have painted the exterior pink and it's very bright and just sticks out too much (suppose that's probably what they were aiming for).

I wouldn't be happy with looking at a house like this. Very off-putting.

daisyydaisyy · 07/09/2026 17:54

It’s cute and would make me want to buy it! I’d love to have a pink door!

mathanxiety · 07/09/2026 17:58

It wouldn't put me off at all. In fact, it would make me think this is a house someone cares about and I would get the feeling that the interior is also fresh and cheery.

mathanxiety · 07/09/2026 18:00

The pink frame is.perfect. Do not paint it white!

holkhamhighkicks · 07/09/2026 18:04

I love it. It would definitely not put me off!

Lizchapman · 07/09/2026 18:45

I think it might depend on the rest of the road. Does it stand out massively or are there a range of colours,

Pinkponieswine · 07/09/2026 18:47

I’d buy It just for the door
