Would my front door put you off buying my house?!

Just painted it. Colour is not quite what I was going for. I wanted a lighter dusky pink. Ive only done one coat. Do you think it's too much? It's a wooden door so can be re-painted by buyers. I'm putting my house up for sale soon.

Picture under review!

Love it. And after all, it's paint. It can easily be painted over

Itllbereadysoon · 11/09/2026 14:42

It wouldn't pur me off but I don't like the colour. It would make me wonder how the rest of the house was decorated inside though. I'd definitely have to paint over it.

If the paint is sound and not flaking or peeling the colour wouldn't bother me in the slightest. It can always be pained over. Anyhow, I like it!

SunnyOchreNewt · 12/09/2026 18:47

I wouldn't, but if property programmes are anything to go by, many people can be put off buying a house because of the paint colours, the furniture and even the curtains. Baffling.

It’s lovely! New owners tend to repaint anyway.

I doubt it will put buyers off, but it may influence the valuer. I say this because my son bought his flat last year and it had a pretty wacky mural on the front door. It didn’t put him off buying the flat (it’s spacious and in a leafy suburb, he loves it) but the mortgage valuer absolutely hated it and had a mini rant about it in his report. His valuation was a bit lower than the purchase price. Not sure if the two things were linked, but our son negotiated the price down as a result. He was pleased, seller was annoyed. The door is still a mural because our son as grown rather attached to its quirkiness, but we have advised him to repaint it if he ever plans to sell.

Are you sure the lower value wasn"t more about more expensive mortgage debt and lower demand for property?

Don’t know, as I said, but the surveyor REALLY hated that door 😂

Must have been the mural, strange he would reference it in his report?

Yes indeed. I was surprised too. It’s not that bad either!

Maybe his ex-wife had one the same on her new younger boyfriends door or something?

Yes, this will more likely put buyers off.

Personally I don't like it, so rt would go on the "Con" list, but in itself would not stop my purchase.

Probably sick trudging round in the heat doing valuations.

I prefer these sort of colours. I don’t like the white next door.

Yes, they blend well.
