Would my front door put you off buying my house?!

Just painted it. Colour is not quite what I was going for. I wanted a lighter dusky pink. Ive only done one coat. Do you think it's too much? It's a wooden door so can be re-painted by buyers. I'm putting my house up for sale soon.

Picture under review!

If you’re planning to sell why on earth paint it a risky colour that some people will hate? Do it dark blue and once you’ve moved paint your new door pink.

Don’t like it especially if your going to sell be better to do something that appeals to buyers

pillar box red looks smart and striking gives the impression of being looked after

Bright red on that colour house wouldn’t appeal to me!

FloofyKat · 07/09/2026 13:39

I don’t like the colour at all but it wouldn’t put me off buying the house if I liked the rest of it. I’d be painting it a different colour if I bought the place!

However, I am a little puzzled as to why you chose such a ‘Marmite’ colour if you are planning to sell soon. I’d have chosen something with a wider kerb appeal.

Someone told me cherry red is the new sage green....

Hotafternoon · 07/09/2026 13:42

It's not my sort of colour at all but it wouldn't put me off the house, I'd just assume I would get it repainted or buy a new door.

BreatheAndFocus · 07/09/2026 13:46

I think it looks nice - warm and friendly - and I’m not normally a fan of pink. So, no, it wouldn’t put me off at all.

Your front door definitely would not put me off. But the next door one would have me questioning if there is any subsidence or anything going on, it is lopsided!

I thought that too.
Or is it to camouflage it someway ?

Fifthtimelucky · 07/09/2026 13:46

It wouldn’t put me off as it would be easy to change. I quite like the colour, but not for a front door

mumumental · 07/09/2026 13:47

No. Paint is cheap.

Hellohelga · 07/09/2026 13:47

I don’t care for it so I’d put it on my mental list of things I’d need to change. It’d only put me off if it was one of many small changes that totted up to too much.

Needtosellmyhousesoon · 07/09/2026 13:54

Thanks everyone! I bought the paint 2 years ago when I thought I'd live here forever. It was Rustoleum dusky pink and not exactly cheap. I cant use it on the new house because that has a composite door.

Oh and the point about it making buyers think it's the same colour inside the house is concerning. It's all white/cream/beige inside. I dont want anyone to scroll past my house based on the door!

I could buy some new paint i guess but...trying to save money and not be wasteful.

The colour doesn’t put me off but the door itself would!!

romatheroamer · 07/09/2026 14:02

I think it's a lovely colour and have just had the kitchen redone with units a similar colour. I think red or purple, while not necessarily putting me off, would be more "marmite".

Blueuggboots · 07/09/2026 14:01

The colour doesn’t put me off but the door itself would!!

I would not be put off a wooden door, but I would be put off that white UPVC monstrosity next door. Also an expensive composite door that doesnt match or complement the house would put me off.

TheOlderIGetTheStayerIHome · 07/09/2026 14:06

I’d be more worried if it was hung like the neighbours one!

It would be one of the first things I’d paint though tbh.

Scampuss · 07/09/2026 14:06

The door colour wouldn't bother me at all, but the cement strap pointing would be a concern.

Madamlulu · 07/09/2026 14:09

Love it!

Rightsraptor · 07/09/2026 14:10

It wouldn't put me off the house but I would repaint it at the earliest opportunity.

cuckoolodger · 07/09/2026 14:10

No, I love it! This is mine

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 07/09/2026 14:12

Repainting isn’t a big job so no it wouldn’t put me off, but I would think the inside was equally like this,

metameta · 07/09/2026 14:13

I love it! Love a bold colour choice. Life it to short to make safe choices!

Dollymylove · 07/09/2026 14:16

Its fine but if the purchaser likes everything but the door colour, a lick of paint would quickly remedy it 😆

Mydogisagentleman · 07/09/2026 14:20

I have been planning on painting my front door pink and have gone as far as getting a couple of colour cards.
I don't massively like the pink you have chosen but it certainly wouldn't put me off

Maddy70 · 07/09/2026 14:21

It would put me off a little I think but I would paint over it
