Removal company took away half the house yesterday and it's still a mess plus I'm struggling to see how everything is going to fit in the bungalow tomorrow when we complete but we shall see. Will be around on Tuesday to help my parents settle in and then am off to Greece for a week.

Good strategy re relaxing in Greece after!

@Limeandsober I’ve over lapped in rented before. For council tax I’ve only ever paid for one home. There’s a form to complete with move date on, when you move your furniture you pay for that one. I think it’s a bit of grace period but can’t remember how long - sorry that might not be helpful.

Im now waiting for searches, last one due back 17th April.

not sure if I need to do anything else?

good vibes for next week all!!

JustBiscoff · 30/03/2025 19:05

@LemurabbitI hope you get more viewings this coming week!

Not many councils do an empty house grace period now. They need the money too much!

Sorry some of you have been hit by a lurgy or just exhaustion.

Good luck to completers tomorrow and anyone going for the nuclear option of 31st March exchange and completion!

kirinm · 31/03/2025 08:41

Congratulations to everyone who managed to exchange and complete last week and to those completing today. After we moved I was exhausted and promptly got sick. I think I’d been so stressed for weeks that when it was finally (sort of) over, my body thought I had enough time to deal with a cold.

We need some positive news this week. 3 weeks in and no memorandum of sale. We’ve got 4.5 months left in our rental. We should at least hear back from our lender. I’m intrigued as to what they’ll say! If we are going to have to look for a non-standard mortgage I’ll feel a bit deflated.

(Non standard because of the condition of the house not because of our finances - thankfully).

Hoolahoophop · 31/03/2025 09:36

I'm waiting on keys today, anyone else on tender hooks for the phone call to say they have finally completed?

Didnt sleep well last night. Nerves and excitement. we are not even moving today, just picking up the keys and having a proper explore.

Me! I’m at work today and wondering when the call will come. I’m in rented do not moving in straight away. The road will be busy with removal trucks today !

Hoolahoophop · 31/03/2025 10:10

Have you had the call yet @Limeandsober? If not we beat you. DH just had the call followed up by formal letter via email as confirmation!

Yay. We are now double home owners....and need to get our old house on the market ASAP before we run out of money!

Looking forward to picking up the keys after the kids finish school today and having a really good poke around.

Oh congratulations @Hoolahoophop! It sounds like you’re doing it in the same way as us - buying a new one before selling the one you’re in? Do you mind me asking how you’ve found the process? Did it complicate things?

We’ve had our mortgage offer and the solicitors are rumbling on in the background but I have a horrible knot in my stomach that our current house won’t sell and we’ll end up stuck with two and all the stamp duty forever 😁

Hoolahoophop · 31/03/2025 10:30

@TweezerMay We mainly did it this way as the house we wanted is fairly unique and we didn't want to loose it. So put ourselves out of a chain in hopes the sellers would agree a good price. Which worked. I'd say apart from having to pay so much stamp and now having the costs of two houses it has been quite simple.

At the moment the mortgage we have for the new house is about the same value as the house we are selling, so as long as we can sell quite quickly we should still come out net.

We have been doing some tidying up of our current house, so will get all that done asap now, polish up the new one and move. I'd day it reduces the stress in that a shorter chain is preferable, and not having to move your entire life in one day is excellent we can take our time and get children, animals settled in. However it will rumble on as now we have finished the purchase we have to arrange, wait for and stress about the sale, knowing that we are paying considerable amount of money per month until it goes through.

We can decorate while the new house is empty which will be nice and move in with it already feeling like home.

Good luck to you.

Abra1t · 31/03/2025 10:35

Thanks for that! I hope everything goes smoothly with your redecorating. Congratulations again ☺️

No not yet although I wasn’t expecting one until after midday really. Congratulations! All this waiting for this day eh!!!

Limeandsober · 31/03/2025 11:25

And just like that the phone rang!!! I have completed OM goodness

FolkloreEvermore1989 · 31/03/2025 11:49

Well we got a pretty terrifying email from our lender (through our broker) effectively saying we were ineligible for the agreed mortgage due to our recent payslips and the fact there was money on our credit cards when they looked. our CCs are paid off in full twice a month and our broker assured us that was fine. The payslip confusion is all because we’re on maternity and shared parental leave…

before this email they had told us we could borrow up to £70k more if we wanted, so our affordability has somehow been shot by this latest evaluation.

We’ve gone back with our clarification and we’re hoping it should be enough - but has anyone been in this position? Any positive stories?

LilyCandelabra · 31/03/2025 12:03

Whoop! Just got the call to say we can pick the keys up. Only ever lurked on this thread and only beat the SDLT deadline because of it - I didn't know about needing 5-7 days to draw down mortgage funds until reading that on here, so wouldn't have escalated to serious solicitor and EA ass kicking in time otherwise. Grateful thanks for the thread!

HavenSprings · 31/03/2025 12:47

Congratulations to everyone who just completed today! 🎉

I really hope we won't end up paying two council taxes while we -slowly- vacate our rented. Hopefully they will consider the official moving date to start charging? Ours is next week!

Also, will the accrued interest on the mortgage be slightly less for people who managed completion end of the month, or won't it make that much difference, really?

Hoolahoophop · 31/03/2025 13:04

Congratulations @LilyCandelabra and @Limeandsober

Eskimole · 31/03/2025 13:18

Hello I was barely on the last thread as we'd just put our house on the market but we've accepted an offer, also had an offer accepted and we're now in limbo waiting for our sellers' seller to find somewhere to move to. Some absolute horror stories on this thread so i am keeping my fingers crossed but I feel permanently twitchy. Goodness knows how I am going to be further down the process. This is only the second time we have sold and bought and it's been a long time in between so I think I had blocked out how bad the process is.

gottagetthruthis25 · 31/03/2025 13:31

Congratulations @LilyCandelabra🎉 🎉 🎉 and @limeandsober!
I'm all packed now. Kids are at school removal men have come and gone to another job and will be back later on to drop my things in the new place. Just waiting for the phone call to say that I've completed and I can pick up my keys
Eating lunch in My car. And avoiding the cats who are not very happy with me!
Can't wait to get my phone call!

magicmermaid · 31/03/2025 13:32

Congrats @Limeandsober& @LilyCandelabra🎉🎉🎉

Hoping that now the deadline is out of the way (after today) we will be made a priority! 🙏🏻

MelodyJ · 31/03/2025 17:31

I’ve exchanged this morning for completion this Friday. Nearly there!

Feelingstrange2 · 31/03/2025 18:15

Well done Melody!
