Please help me find a property anywhere in uk for under 60k. Preferably under 40k. One bedroom ground floor flat maybe. Seen some places up north but it seems impossible to do nationwide check on rightmovè

Think very carefully on this OP, if you have health issues and little family support you may be better in/near a city for hospital access as well as future in home care requirements. As well as easy access to public transports/shops.

Some cities in the North of England or larger towns on the west coast of Scotland may fit the bill.

I’ve always loved Carmarthen (a little market town in West Wales where my husband is from) If you expand the radius a little you can easily find somewhere for 40, but here’s a lovely little flat for 60. Not good transport links out but plenty in the town itself

@beeloubee I haven't read the full thread so forgive me if this has been said already but you can do a UK wide search on Zoopla, I used to do it when I just wanted a big house and didn't care where, it was great fun looking at all the different places. I think price wise North is the most likely place. Good luck in your search.

How about this one OP. There are shops , a health centre and it's in a lovely part of Ayrshire. My mum was born here.

There are some lovely beaches in Ayrshire too - and great fish and chips!

You should go for it OP, the highlands are amazing - all the scenery, fresh air and starry skies are good for the soul.

And only 2 hours to the nearest general hospital 🫠

Survivingnotthriving24 · 30/11/2024 22:22

Maybe worthwhile researching what hospitals are equipped to deal with your spinal issues too, if you're willing to share more detail I'm sure people might be able to give you some help.

Don’t know how to link it, but look up on Rightmove- Kitchener street Sunderland. 65k 1 bed. Nice safe area.

PondWarrior · 30/11/2024 22:25

I’m biased as it’s my home town but try searching Brotton, next to Saltburn North Yorkshire (TS12). It’s not an amazing place but benefits from very close proximity to Saltburn (which has always had a lovely beach and now the town has become very lovely too) but at much lower prices…

Mumwithbaggage · 30/11/2024 22:26

Lots in Liverpool on Rightmove. I googled Wavertree which is where dd's student house is near. Obviously some areas are much better than others but loads available at that price x

Doubledded123 · 30/11/2024 22:26

Leave the UK. Italy has reciprocal health agreements
Hsalthcsre much better,
You can get a studio flat for that.

The highlands covers a massive geographical area. So it does not necessarily mean that the nearest hospital is 2 hours away. I’m sure the OP knows what is necessary for her and will decide locations accordingly.

Twofurrycats · 30/11/2024 22:27

Burnley looks cheap but....
A lot are for auction and will go for more.
Some need massive renovation.
Sitting tenant.
Converted mill type. One in padiham looks OK but has charges that come to near 1300 pa.
Also I would not want to be under Burnley/Blackburn hospital. I'd rather live in Keighley and have airedale general.

scotstars · 30/11/2024 22:28

Searching for south lanarkshire and 40mile radius on rightmove under 60k brings up over 600 results. Not all are properties obviously some garages, plots of land etc but lots there to look at!

I know how big the Highlands are and I can never get over the amount of people that move here without knowing just how far it is to Raigmore. But that’s for another thread ☺️

Would you not be better off renting if you have such a small budget? I'm in Yorkshire and that budget gets you no where you'd want to live.

Agreed- places are cheap for a reason.

I knew someone who bought a very cheap place in South West - {Away from transport links} and she loathed it.
Feral children in the area with parent/s that basically didn't give a monkeys.

DianaRiggsCatsuit · 30/11/2024 22:37

@beeloubee
I would avoid leasehold properties (mainly flats) because of high service charges and ground rent which I believe you can't claim housing benefit for these charges. Also there can be issues with leases under 80 years.
Try to buy a freehold house.

In Ayr, one bed cottage https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/149294276#/?channel=RES_BUY
Ayrshire has 2 major hospitals in Ayr and Crosshouse , between Irvine and Kilmarnock, plus lots of smaller ones , and Glasgow isn’t far away, either. Plenty of countryside and beaches, though not as stunning as our gorgeous Highlands, where I lived on the West Coast. NHS dentists.
