Please help me find a property anywhere in uk for under 60k. Preferably under 40k. One bedroom ground floor flat maybe. Seen some places up north but it seems impossible to do nationwide check on rightmovè

Look near the hospital in Doncaster… it’s central so good transport links and sounds like you may need frequent hospital trips. It’s also got a city centre station that has fast trains to London/South.

beetr00 · 30/11/2024 20:24

@beeloubee

any of these?

Mum2jenny · 30/11/2024 20:24

Plenty in Dundee and the hospital there (Ninewells) is very good with good transport links

Lwrenn · 30/11/2024 20:27

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/154863758

Next to the beach, it's a do upper but if it goes for 30k you'd have more than enough to renovate.
I know where this is and the area is really pleasant.

Is shared ownership a possibility?

If you fancy Scotland then Fife is probs your best bet.

nellly · 30/11/2024 20:29

This is a nice area near my sister, great transport links

You don't state your age, but I'm wondering if you've considered buying a retirement flat?

There will be service charges - maintenance of communal areas, warden onsite etc. And they can be difficult to sell, if op ever needed to move.

Some of the places mentioned are university cities. Somewhere with a university is likely to have better public transport, and more going on - arts and culture etc - if those are imortant to op.

Also OP bear in mind the further north you go, the colder it will be, especially on the east coast. You'll need to think about how that might affect your health conditions.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 30/11/2024 20:31

Are you over 55 and do you need any hospital based medical care? That makes a difference as not all areas are equal.

I moved from the sw to nw 15 years ago but was originally from the nw so had a good support network. Had excellent hospital care until the pandemic, it's mixed now. Supposed to have 4 monthly check ups, last one was a year ago.

Ì don't work anymore. I'm ill health retired sadly with spinal problems. I have 66k cash. And I get pip and esa. Looking for anywhere. Don't have family really. I can't afford to buy in sw where I'm from. Willing to move anywhere that's not too rough although I know that will be hard to find with small budget.

How do you get ESA if you have 66k in cash?

Sunshineofyourlove · 30/11/2024 20:32

I live in a nice friendly town in Tayside. Loads within budget here if you are open to coming this far North!

The new version isn’t income related at all, other than personal pension,

Bornnotbourne · 30/11/2024 20:33

I think the Carlisle flat is a really good bet. It’s in a good condition, fairly easy to get to from anywhere in the country. The town itself is really pleasant and generally accessible.

Mathsbabe · 30/11/2024 20:34

I put in a city, Stoke on Trent in my case, and opted for properties with 40 miles.
I got 500 results including flats in Birmingham and Manchester for £50,000.
There was a lovely 2bed town house in Derby in that list.
Look in parts of Wales and Lincolnshire for other options as well as the north.

Aholes · 30/11/2024 20:35

Thank you @Haggia I shouldn't have presumed it was income related ESA rather than new style ESA.

BeTealUser · 30/11/2024 20:36

OP just watch when you are looking at Rightmove, some the links being posted are properties being sold at auction so could go far over the guide price that’s listed online.

Have you consider a canal boat?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 30/11/2024 20:20

this is a retirement place but over 55’s and definitely not rough! Really close to the centre of Chester-le-street

I would worry about lease charge and service charges. But is definitely very nice. Near buses shops and dr’s and pharmacy. Also has parking.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 30/11/2024 20:54

How far north are you prepared to go? Angus is very affordable and still reasonably well connected if you go for Montrose or Arbroath on the east coast mainline.

This one is offers over as is norm in Scotland but north east is not really going over, or by very little, currently.

Do you think a canal boat is suitable for someone with mobility problems?

OP I'm sure you'll find something lovely in a reasonable area in a northern town or city.

But a lot of the small terraced houses linked will have a steep and narrow staircase and the only bathroom will be upstairs so I don't know if they're appropriate for the OP.

People are posting a right load of shite.
Sounds like the OP needs one floor living, and possibly only ground floor living.

Worth noting that if you were happy to consider relocating to Scotland, you will benefit from free prescriptions. That may be attractive to you if you are in poor health. Of course you would also have to consider and compare the quality of local hospital care but just wanted to mention this.
