Please help me find a property anywhere in uk for under 60k. Preferably under 40k. One bedroom ground floor flat maybe. Seen some places up north but it seems impossible to do nationwide check on rightmovè

Try County Durham ex mining towns and villages. Lovely scenery, mostly lovely people!

Yes I agree I live in one. Avoid Horden though. Blackhall colliery is nice. Don't know if there's any downstairs flats available though? Lots of people from the south etc have moved to Blackhall recently. A lot have bought.

That house is an absolute wreck! The OP has £60k and you’ve posted a link to a house listed for £55k that needs about £20k spending on it to make it habitable!

There's quite a few near me in central Scotland. Try Rightmove search area around Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, or Edinburgh or Glasgow.

I wouldn't bother with Edinburgh! You'd get a garage at best for £60k...

Over the water in Fife might be a better bet.

Have you consider a canal boat?

Not sure how that would work with mobility problems.

Also a lot of the properties being shared need a lot of work doing on them which aren't really going to be suitable for someone without much money and unable to renovate herself.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/11/2024 21:27

On Rightmove there are 21 properties of £60k and under in Plymouth. That's still in your SW area and close to the sea and decent facilities.

South Wales but not very long lease but could suit you?

LaundryIsNotmyFriend · 30/11/2024 21:30

I really recommend Chester le Street in County Durham. It has a big high street with shops, a lovely park with a river running through it and great transport links via bus and train to Durham and Newcastle. I don’t know if you need regular medical care but there is a hospital a short bus ride away too. The people are friendly and the cost of living lower.

i would wait until early spring as i expect more properties will reach the market.

Have you considered shared ownership with a housing association? You'll own a share of the property and pay rent on the other half but it'll give you more choice to choose from. Good luck.

County Durham has some cheap housing, Bishop Auckland was one place I noticed had houses for under 60k, but sure many other places in the county

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 30/11/2024 21:36

No idea about the area but that property looks like it may be suitable.

Pungifries · 30/11/2024 21:37

If you go on Rightmove, within 40 miles of Burnley for less than £60k, there’s 706 properties listed
im from the northwest , happy for you to PM me about areas to avoid etc. good luck x

Littlemissgobby · 30/11/2024 21:38

Isn’t esa like universal you can’t have so much in savings and 66 k quite a bit just wondering

Littlemissgobby · 30/11/2024 21:39

But also, if you’re not gonna be able to work, what happens if there’s a lot of maintenance you have to pay to make these flats or property better so you’re not gonna have the money for that so wouldn’t you be better just renting somewhere?

You arent going to get a nice area anywhere within this budget.

Wolframandhart · 30/11/2024 21:44

Darwen and Accrington in the NW will have property for that price.
