What do you need to be near? Do you drive? If not that’s important you’re near amenities. Do you like town, countryside? What do you do in you day to day?

Loads in Wales. You can't search the whole country but 'North Wales' and 'South Wales' both come up with over 80 options including some houses.

South Wales might be a good option if you're in the SW of England and have connections there (depending where in the SW of course!)

In South Wales certainly they're going to be in the absolute shittest areas of hell hole towns up the valleys or in the grimmest areas. People have already posted some houses in terrible places in s wales that no one wants to live in, because they're so awful. If any of the people suggesting these places knew anything at all about the areas they wouldn't be recommending the OP live there, I can guarantee.

north Yorkshire within 40 miles has lots around 60k

Henrythehappypig · 30/11/2024 22:49

Is neither shit or grim.

Would you be able to get a place in an almshouse? Check this website for almshouses near you. https://www.almshouses.org/#:~:text=Almshouses%20are%20a%20charitable%20form,made%20up%20of%20local%20volunteers.
Alrernatively, Do you or family have links to the military? They have various supported/ charitable housing schemes around the country. I know that because the Secretary where I worked was married to an ex forces and she said they had housing available but had trouble finding suitable people ( ie people who were not going to be any trouble, upset elderly residents etc , to fill the vacancies in the housing scheme he volunteered at.

The Almshouse Association

@ISeriouslyDoubtIt

They’re not all awful! The link in Carmarthen, S Wales I posted above looks lovely! I’d live in that flat myself. I grew up nearby and my husband is from Carmarthen itself. We visit several times a year. It’s nice, I promise! If anything a bit posh. Lovely little community and has an M&S and everything 👍

Agreed- places are cheap for a reason.

I knew someone who bought a very cheap place in South West - {Away from transport links} and she loathed it.
Feral children in the area with parent/s that basically didn't give a monkeys.

They can be cheap because they aren’t the SE of England. I bought mine, 4 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 2 cellar rooms at the back, plus one at the side which was a coal shed, for 55k . Can park a dozen cars in my garden at the back. Quiet area. Countryside views. Thousands of acres of hills to walk just over the road to the front, or forests at the back of me. Ok, not a lot of amenities here, but they aren’t far away. I go to the theatre, the beach, pubs, restaurants, cinemas. There’s a sense of community. You can get help from the community if you move in to say, a council house with nothing. Free fridge, suites, beds, etc. we had 2 such cases in the last month. I can leave my doors unlocked if I go out.

Leave the UK. Italy has reciprocal health agreements
Hsalthcsre much better,
You can get a studio flat for that.

Interesting. What are reciprocal health agreements? I don't think Italy would accept disabled lady

I’ve always loved Carmarthen (a little market town in West Wales where my husband is from) If you expand the radius a little you can easily find somewhere for 40, but here’s a lovely little flat for 60. Not good transport links out but plenty in the town itself

Well, looks so good I could move there myself!

This is a really nice ground floor flat with garage and garden in a very pretty village with cafes and NT properly and village in bloom awards. Shopping centre + library nearby, and good bus links. It is on a private estate with semi detached houses and safe area. Would recommended having a look at this and the area.

@beeloubee do you have any requirements to do with your health? e.g. do you need to be near a good hospital? Or on the group floor etc?
