Please help me find a property anywhere in uk for under 60k. Preferably under 40k. One bedroom ground floor flat maybe. Seen some places up north but it seems impossible to do nationwide check on rightmovè

Lincolnshire is cheap

Market Rasen is actually a nice market town / village 20 mins from Lincoln city - has a small Trainline too www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/150487817

Grimsby is less of a nice place, has a bit of a reputation, but actually people are friendly and if you get the bus or walk to cleethorpes it's full of retired people - and obviously by the sea too - this is finished nicely and has a lift www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/153788213

Gainsborough is a sort of boring town but this apartment is ground floor and fine looking www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/146752625

East Ayrshire is a cheap county. 53 properties currently for sale under £60k. Including a one bedroom bungalow, a 3 bedroomed house a street away from me, another house my son was looking to buy, but it does need a bit of work decorative, and he’s still thinking, and lots of 1 or 2 bed flats

StarCurator · 30/11/2024 21:47

I'd echo the caveats about buying a retirement flat. The service charges are usually very high, and are not usually capped, so OP needs to be very careful about what they're getting into. The service charges can also be high on leasehold flats; the government has promised to abolish leasehold, but I don't think that's going to happen soon. A small house in good repair might be ideal, if you can find one for your budget, maybe one with a bathroom on the ground floor, should your health issues need you to be on one floor at any point. Another commentator raised the point that it is much colder up in the north than the SW, which might not be good for OP's health; also, heating bills will be higher. Good luck!

Loads in Wales. You can't search the whole country but 'North Wales' and 'South Wales' both come up with over 80 options including some houses.

South Wales might be a good option if you're in the SW of England and have connections there (depending where in the SW of course!)

Lilyhatesjaz · 30/11/2024 21:50

Try somerset on rightmove there are some flats and some park homes, maybe
not what you want but in the south west, Somerset is a lot cheaper than Devon or Cornwall

MissRoseDurward · 30/11/2024 21:53

.....some park homes

Don't touch a park home, OP.

Caithness, Scottish Highlands. You'll get a 1 bedroom for that, and possibly 2 that may need a bit of TLC. Safe place to live. Lovely fresh air and gorgeous views. A nice lifestyle really.

This might be a good idea if you are eligible?

Hartlepool.

I would start new thread with the place names in the titles and ask for advice on that area.

Don't rule out shared ownership, if you bought 75% share you would get rental help with the other 25% if your income is too low?

Means you can buy in a "nicer" area or a new property that is more energy efficient etc.

That's interesting. There is actually a cheap flat there I liked the look of it. Is hartlepool really that bad?

You should go for it OP, the highlands are amazing - all the scenery, fresh air and starry skies are good for the soul.

HPandthelastwish · 30/11/2024 22:12

You can get somewhere in Great Yarmouth for that, walking distance to the shopping area, bus station, train station and to the beach.

PinkRetro · 30/11/2024 22:14

Christ these properties are all so cheap compared to London and south east. I am considering a move to hartlepool as could outright buy a 1 bed flat where as where I am now, I wouldn't have a chance of buying independently.

DearDenimEagle · 30/11/2024 22:16

Ayrshire, you can get seaside towns , flats for as low as 35k

and this, ground floor, garden front and back, sun room
