Please help me find a property anywhere in uk for under 60k. Preferably under 40k. One bedroom ground floor flat maybe. Seen some places up north but it seems impossible to do nationwide check on rightmovè

Try Yorkshire. Doncaster/Wakefield/Barnsley. Can’t vouch for the areas though. Or bits of Lancashire. Blackburn, Colne, Burnley.

Mrsttcno1 · 30/11/2024 19:21

Search South Shields on Rightmove, there are 37 properties for sale for less than 60k so a good amount of choice.

BrieHugger · 30/11/2024 19:24

There are hundreds of houses (rather than flats) but not all in good areas.

Narrow it down a bit - are you going to be living there? Do you need schools / transport links etc. Do you want a doer-upper or a mover-inner?

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 30/11/2024 19:26

How far up north OP? I live close to Aberdeen and plenty at your price? Look at ASPC

Ihatemondays1962 · 30/11/2024 19:36

You'd get something for that price on the west coast of Scotland in places like dumbarton, clydebank, paisley or some of the more rural towns in argyll. I think you need to be more specific about your requirements for transport, jobs etc

missymousey · 30/11/2024 19:43

There's quite a few near me in central Scotland. Try Rightmove search area around Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, or Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Ì don't work anymore. I'm ill health retired sadly with spinal problems. I have 66k cash. And I get pip and esa. Looking for anywhere. Don't have family really. I can't afford to buy in sw where I'm from. Willing to move anywhere that's not too rough although I know that will be hard to find with small budget.

Try County Durham ex mining towns and villages. Lovely scenery, mostly lovely people!

RandomMess · 30/11/2024 20:03

Hartlepool.

I would start new thread with the place names in the titles and ask for advice on that area.

Don't rule out shared ownership, if you bought 75% share you would get rental help with the other 25% if your income is too low?

Means you can buy in a "nicer" area or a new property that is more energy efficient etc.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 30/11/2024 20:04

Seem to be quite a lot in Hull.

Brainded · 30/11/2024 20:04

@beeloubee if you go onto right move you can draw an area to search. That might help you select areas.

TopKat28 · 30/11/2024 20:07

You don't state your age, but I'm wondering if you've considered buying a retirement flat? Some are available to anyone over 55. If so, you would probably be able to live in a more desirable area. I would avoid purchasing any property that requires renovation (however cheap) as building costs have escalated massively over the past few years.

ScribblingPixie · 30/11/2024 20:11

You will get a flat in Cardigan, West Wales, for that. I really like it there, but travel to England isn't easy (there's no train).

Chewbecca · 30/11/2024 20:12

On Rightmove you can set the range to 40 miles so I would go through that way, you can actually cover the country pretty quickly.
Would South Wales be an option, fairly close to the SW?

ScribblingPixie · 30/11/2024 20:13

Also, Lincoln - I can see quite a lot there.

RandomMess · 30/11/2024 20:13

Yes there are some retirement apartments in the nice area of Morecambe and at a stretch Lancaster.

Has a hospital and good bus service.

TwoBlueFish · 30/11/2024 20:17

One bed, ground floor Blackpool £50k www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/96664063

ClassicalQueen · 30/11/2024 20:19

Would you not be better off renting if you have such a small budget? I'm in Yorkshire and that budget gets you no where you'd want to live.

So ideally do you want to be on one floor if your health is likely to get worse?

Do you want to be in walking distance to stuff like shops or doctors?

I’d be wary with flats re ongoing annual fees for things like ground rent and management companies, which can end up being thousands per year and make them harder to sell.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 30/11/2024 20:20

this is a retirement place but over 55’s and definitely not rough! Really close to the centre of Chester-le-street
