Please help me find a property anywhere in uk for under 60k. Preferably under 40k. One bedroom ground floor flat maybe. Seen some places up north but it seems impossible to do nationwide check on rightmovè

Yes I noticed that after I posted @ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea I don’t tbink it’s the catch I thought it was as a low cost area as all the others I found had similar ‘catches’. Scotland/N England perhaps a better bet.

Very sorry to hear about your poor health OP. I hope you find somewhere lovely.

ThereIsALifeOutThere · 01/12/2024 19:14

Could I advise you to look at bungalow/flat rather than buses where you’ll have to climb stairs.

im an ambulatory wheelchair user and I know stairs are the bane if my life. I suspect they might be an issue fir you too.

walkingnightmare · 01/12/2024 19:17

Meant to add that it's leasehold, but there are 99 years left on the lease.

walkingnightmare · 01/12/2024 19:20

Actually, rereading it, they were a bit sneaky about the wording - there are 84 years left, which is probably all you need!

sabbii · 01/12/2024 19:41

Try south Wales

Crikeyalmighty · 01/12/2024 19:51

@walkingnightmare I agree - it is shared ownership though and that's probably only 25% - so will have monthly rent -(£563) partly depends if OP fits the criteria income wise - even though she would be able to claim the rental element on benefit - but not sure about service charge ( but will get that on all flats anyway)

To be honest OP I think many of the shared ownerships would be a better bet- if they are happy to take your cash as 25% ownership and allow you to use benefit towards rent - it is well worth checking that out by calling a few to find out as will give you a massive choice then all over- I have a friend who did this- the main criteria was she had to have a good credit record - and the 25% in ready funds plus solicitors fee etc as obviously couldn't get a mortgage.

notathenabutcassandra · 01/12/2024 19:53

If you search Barrow-in-Furness with no minimum price you'll find quite a few. Some worse than others - but West Shore is right on the beach

HellsBalls · 01/12/2024 19:58

Probably a good time to be looking. A lot of BTL crowd are trying to get out of the game. Should be plenty of choice, albeit in less desirable areas ( hence cheap properties ).

DearDenimEagle · 01/12/2024 19:58

Shared ownership seems to be a thing down south. Not so much oop north. Ditto leasehold. Ex local authority sometimes have restrictions that no one follows, like only one dog, but no extra monetary costs. A flat might have a factor to deal with common areas, like grass cutting, paths and steps, weed killer, so that will bring extra bills. Why I always advocate a wee freehold house and if it’s a flat, check for a factor unless it suits to pay for the grass etc.

shehasglasses48 · 01/12/2024 20:36

What makes you ask the question? By the way ignore the Googlers who’ve said Burnley or Blackburn. I’m local and they don’t know what they’re talking about

NoWordForFluffy · 01/12/2024 20:55

1st one is Modern Method of Auction with a lease which needs extending.

2nd is tenanted with only a 40 year lease.

Neither should be touched with a barge pole!

Crikeyalmighty · 01/12/2024 21:46

Had you thought about something like this OP? In Newquay so not exactly a crap hole - 12 month open site- but an 11 month residential period but the month can be split over the year - just go and have a few cheap weeks elsewhere out of season if necessary -.£3400 a year site charges- but to balance you won't have council tax and will have lots of facilities on top - a fair few like this all over but to be honest if you pay £35k for one you may as well live in a nice area you actually like! You need to be physically able to give somewhere else as a residential address - so works if you have a friend/ son/daughter etc whose address you can use. To be honest compared to somewhere grotty I would be tempted

What about Cleethorpes

Crikeyalmighty · 01/12/2024 22:16

This is another decent one in Cornwall with 12 month occupancy

84 years is not enough. Less than 80 years will be unmortgagable and will cost a fortune to extend the lease.

Ukrainebaby23 · 02/12/2024 07:03

Mansfield areas, in Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire borders can have reasonable properties under £60k. Some are non standard builds so people can't get mortgages, others in areas of subsidence so similar issues, neither aways mean big problems so there are bargains but take advice and research before purchase.

beeloubee · 02/12/2024 11:30

Hi everyone. I got my house sale money in today. So I now have 65k. I only get 950 a month from pip and new style esa. I was recently reviewed for pip again due to change in circumstances, i am hoping to get an increase. My whole neck is fused and I've had tethered cord release surgery.

The reason I'm trying to buy is because renting would be too exhausting. It would be horrible to be moving around every year or so. I'm not too fussy. Just need something that isn't moldy, doesn't need a lot of work, is easy to look after and on ground floor. The budget isn't good I agree. Terrible budget. I'm not too fussy on the area because I don't really have family. SW would be nice but no way could I get something under 60k.

I seen a flat in hartlepool that looks nice. It's in auction online. Currently at 29k. I do worry though what will happen when my funds start running out as 950 a month not enough and I'm paying a loan of 267 a month. I need to contact the loan provider and tell then I've become ill since taking out the loan and see what they say. But just struggling to be upright at the moment. Just had my last spinal surgery two weeks ago.

When my money goes under 16k what are the chances I can get uc and housing benefit? I know nothing about these things. Before I broke my neck I worked full time 😞 . Now it turns out the injury had knock on effect on whole spine because I have a connective tissue disease I didn't know I had til 2022.

I really like the look of this one

Solid, ex local authority, ground floor, two bedroom, lots of outside space.
Variety of housing nearby plus medical centre and swimming pool in village apparently.
I don't know the area at all but looking at the map it appears that the garden backs onto fields and there's countryside close by.

Wow that one is a bargain. Lovely. Although may be too much for me to look after. Really nice though!
