Most boring place you’ve lived?

I’ve lived all over. London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Cambridge, and Singapore and Chicago.

The most boring place I lived was Cardiff. Lovely city, but lived in the bay in the redevelopment for 6 months and couldn’t wait to leave.

Stay out of the (north) west of England between Ludlow and about Lancaster though. Too many people and towns left to rot. Apart from some bits of Liverpool.

The rest of this part of England is relatively cheap for a reason.

Little village in Devon. Beautiful countryside and hiking opportunites.....rubbish for shopping, entertainment, public transport and jobs!

Solihull was pretty dire

Luxembourg City. When you move to a place where your net curtains have to conform with those of your neighbours, you know it’s not exactly going to be a laugh a minute 😬

Same for several areas of Switzerland and Austria.

I know lots of people love these places, great for raising young families etc, but for my taste they were a bit too wholesome and conformist. Coming from London, I prefer a bit more grit, diversity and humour.

Tie between Bedford, although the guy in the kebab shop always gave me large ones when I asked for standard, and Nailsea near Bristol the latter has two things to recommend it a micro pub and a cider and beer festival one weekend a year.

Is that a euphemism? 😁

Yes, we visit friends a lot in Switzerland, and I do find myself pondering the conformism and rules. I wonder if it’s some compensatory mechanism because of the beautiful, but terrifying mountains?

Great Bar in Birmingham, so dull.

@Gnomegarden32 yep- have needed to stay a few times for business and can't see the appeal at all- I suppose it was quite clean and ordered and compared to other places in area looked relatively smart- but it's a bit lacking in 'a vibe'

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/05/2024 21:43

Melksham in Wiltshire. Yawn.

Needmoresleep · 03/05/2024 02:21

I grew up in Epsom, Surrey. Could not wait to leave. Some relatives of DH live there and rave about it being a wonderful place. I think they are delusional, but don’t tell them.

Haha, I can imagine. We took dd to an open day at the uni - drove 2.5 hours, pulled in the car park and she said "I'm not coming here!"

Sabadell, Barcelona suburb. Spent time there working....boring flats...few bars....cafes etc...I did find out on a recent trip that the other side is much more lively with things going on but i rarely explored as was working for 3 months solid there.
