Most boring place you’ve lived?

I’ve lived all over. London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Cambridge, and Singapore and Chicago.

The most boring place I lived was Cardiff. Lovely city, but lived in the bay in the redevelopment for 6 months and couldn’t wait to leave.

West Berkshire, the countryside is pretty and there are some lovely villages BUT it’s boring.

Agreed, I lived in a village in West berks, it was soooo utterly boring. When I'd see a kid or teenager (rare), i'd really pity them, poor sods.

I think you're letting Slough off too lightly. The same is true of Windsor, Winchester and loads of other towns close to London, but they still have a bit of life of their own too.

Winchester really isn’t a reasonable point of comparison though. It’s a very attractive city, full of history, and is over an hour from London. Slough is just a crappy commuter town with cheap office space and a good train connection.

"Oh wow, I always thought it was a lively place as well"

It is, it's fabulous. I know someone who lived there that did less in her 8 months there than I did in 2 weeks. She went to Clarke Quay and Chymes a lot but had never heard of Pulau Ubin 🤣

TeenLifeMum · 03/02/2024 15:20

I remember visiting a friend in Stratford upon Avon. She’d moved to follow her dream after getting a job at the RSC theatre. Her teens hated it because other than the theatre, there wasn’t anything happening and nothing for teens. I was surprised.

No idea how anyone could find London dull. Egham I get though as I went to uni there and we spent most our student loan travelling until London for nightlife outside the uni bars.

I live not too far from Edmonton Green (ie close enough to have driven over to explore the "shopping mall" when I moved to where I am now... biggest mistake I've ever made), can confirm it is indeed a shithole. I've never even looked in the pub INSIDE the mall but I just know 100% they are racists, last bastion and all that. Only thing I liked about Edmonton was the Wilko and I didn't like Wilko enough to ever go back to Edmonton.

I haven't properly lived there but visited many, many times as OH is from there: Ormskirk. The only interesting thing about Ormskirk was the Blockbuster. I hear it's gotten better and trendier now, but it was so, so dull every time I went. Couldn't wait to leave my in-laws' through no fault of theirs 😅

The Wilko is gone Sad. But you can still see bats flying around the shopping centre in broad daylight, plus the library isn't bad and you can get Turkish-delight twists, cannoli and a cup of sweetcorn. Also I take my elderly neighbour there because the pet shop has a parrot expert, so it is probably more useful than the average high street now.

"How is Egham boring? You're right on the Thames. Take up rowing as a sport or walk along the paths"

Fucking pmsl 🤣 how dare you? It's not boring, you can WALK ON A PATH! 🤣🤣

I love how offended people are getting when their beloved town is described as
boring 🤣 I also find egham boring fwiw and that’s ok!

Kidlington.

Witney isn’t much better tbf 😂😂

allfurcoatnoknickers · 03/02/2024 16:22

@maddiemookins16mum It has a Waitrose! Positively glamorous compared to Kidlington.

Crewkerne has got a Waitrose, so it cannot be considered a marker of quality.

UnfriendMe · 03/02/2024 17:51

Bicester. Total shithole, nothing but barber shops.

SqueakySprout · 03/02/2024 17:53

Melton Mowbray.

Absolutely agree with cupcakesarelife. Singapore is the most boring place to live. In fairness the game plan 50 years ago was to build a picture perfect city and they did, but as a result it's beautifully manufactured and has little to no soul.

When did you live in Singapore? We found Singapore to be a lot of fun, always something to do and def a lot of soul. You want to talk soulless go to Dubai, that place is horrid.

Guernsey, the most exciting thing to happen was the Guernsey Press printing that Mr & Mrs Le Sauvage were moving and someone else had their garden gnome stolen.

Well, yes, but someone else said Luton was boring and that's where they film 24 Hours in Police Custody!

CaribouCarafe · 03/02/2024 18:31

Another vote for Northamptonshire

NecessaryNC24 · 03/02/2024 18:35

Hmm. Bit of a random anecdote about Luton but I worked in Watford for a while and a colleague from Luton proudly told me she'd slept with most of the local football team.

So either Luton's not boring at all or it's SO boring people go to extremes.

shreknjumps · 03/02/2024 18:40

"Bicester. Total shithole, nothing but barber shops."

Did you miss the turn off for Bicester shopping village? 🤣

littlefireseverywhere · 03/02/2024 18:44

Totally Kidlington. I didn’t grow up there my Mum did and swore never to return. Loads of fantastic places fairly close without the delights of kidlington

menohnopausal · 03/02/2024 18:52

Bournemouth in the late 90s. Grim.

Wictc · 03/02/2024 19:26

Winchester and Guildford. The students make both places a bit more lively, but when they’re gone it’s so dull.

Maddiezl · 03/02/2024 19:47

Frome

Tonkerbea · 03/02/2024 20:00

Hemel Hempstead. It's a glorified corridor.

Sublime66 · 03/02/2024 20:11

It's not my hometown. I live in the North.

I deserve that! I worded it badly. I just meant that living with a river right next to you affords you all kinds of opportunities to spend time on or around the water.
