Huge TV
TV in the living room
Hot tub
Gym....as if! 🤣
Microwave
Pets
Anything considered trendy or fashionable, because it will soon go out of fashion

PinkRoses1245 · 08/10/2023 16:56

Astro turf / fake grass. A pool or hot tub, a cinema room, a gym. TV anywhere apart from living room.

I don’t get why so many don’t want a home gym, I’ve one, it’s in a brick out building , it’s such a boon.

i go in there, put my music on loud and work out in privacy, it’s me time, and it keeps me fit and healthy. I can go in there knackered and in a foul mood and come out feeling much better and energised.

there is no queue for the machines or weights , no one posing or videoing, I don’t have to drive anywhere, I can use my own shower after without a drive home, no monthly fee ive to pay.

i can do my own thing, for as long as I wish, be it ten mins or 1 hour, I don’t need to pack a bag, use a locker, It’s only got one mirror, and it’s decorated to my taste, and no one bothers me when I’m in there.

if I didn’t have it, no way I’d be travelling to a commercial gym regularly, and certainly not 5 or 6 days a week, I don’t have the time for that.

id thoroughly recommend it.

Sounds great to me, @Janieforever

This sounds amazing. I don't get why people wouldn't want this. Or even why it's being poo pooed? Or maybe it's more the working out they can't be arsed with. Anything that keeps you feeling good, healthy and looking good for your age is definitely worth it

fieldsatnightfall · 08/10/2023 20:24

Greg crushed velvet, mirror furniture and plastic grass.

Two rich men with worst taste ever have to Donald Trump and Saddam Hussain . If you haven't seen pictures of their places have look . Gold plated everything , just awful .

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/10/2023 20:51

@Janieforever - what? are you having difficulty with understanding that many people don't enjoy doing workouts in a gym?

If I had money I would have an outdoor pool (if I chose to live in a house with a large enough garden) because I like swimming. But I'm perfectly capable of understanding why other people wouldn't.

Citrusandginger · 08/10/2023 21:04

I have or have had too many things on the list, so am obviously a slattern with no taste.

For me the no list would be:
Grey walls
Grey furniture
Shutters
Ginormous barefoot family photos on white canvas
Home cinema
Heat pump
House/flat above the 5th floor.
Leopard skin anything.
Gold furniture

CrispsnDips · 08/10/2023 21:40

Massive TV
Grey everything
Fake grass
Fluorescent lighting
Large family photos
Leather sofas
Artificial plants and flowers
Anything pink

pumpkinspicedbogroll · 08/10/2023 22:28

Loads of televisions. We looked at a house the other day with televisions in every room even the garage, only the downstairs toilet didn't have one although it did have a speaker in so you could hear the tv or sound system!
Given the choice I'd have just a cinema room and no screens anywhere else.

I used to live in the Middle East where many families had swimming pools. I've heard of kids drowning in indoor pools when someone, usually an older kid or teen, left the door unlocked. I just hate any bed of water whether it's a pool, a pond or a river that kids can access from the garden.

Well I don't have children myself. And they can drown in a bath.

Also the Australian fences you cannot leave open, well you might be able to with something heavy blocking it. They also have locks.

This is correct. I have a pool in Oz, they are very strict about fencing regulations. Your fence has to be a certain high with a self-closing door, and there should be nothing nearby to make it climbable. An inspector comes out every few years to check everything is still compliant, even windows over-looking the pool can only be opened a certain amount (which put paid to my son's plan to run a slide from his bedroom window). So pool accidents are thankfully pretty rare here.

My favourite things in my house are my en-suite, wood burner, boiling water tap, expensive scented candles and family picture wall.

yes that seems to be the reason, folks don’t like to work out in a gym as@@40andlovelife indicated, just surprised anyone would hate it so much it would be one of the top things never to have, never mind lots of folks. Was simply a little surprised. No need to get on the attack.

everyone is different.

Mahoosive windows. All that goes though my mind when watching ‘Grand Designs’ et al and the number of cathedral sized windows going in is ‘so what will you do when a bird poos on that lot eh?’

When we had these there was a large roof overhang which protected the windows pretty well.

A television

RampantIvy · 09/10/2023 11:42

Do people without a TV never watch anything at all on a screen?

I love watching TV. I also do a lot of "worthy" activities as well.

Genuinely curious why people wouldn’t want an en-suite? We live in a silly American house with too many bathrooms but I can’t see any reason to object to a bathroom that’s very convenient in the night? Or is an en-suite extra small or something?

I'm very curious too. Seems a weird thing to detest so much.

My ensuite is through a door off my bedroom and is a godsend for me as I invariably need a wee in the night and it means I get to pee without overly waking myself up by having to trot downstairs (like in my mum's or brother's house). Also, by default, it is my bathroom and it means I barely go in the family one. This stops me getting the rage at the mess and chaos that's invariably the case from two teens. My dh is responsible for cleaning the family one and I live in blissful ignorance of the state of it.

But then I am clearly a savage as I have a large fridge freezer, bi-fold doors and a dog. Oh and an open plan kitchen/living/dining room that I prefer to be in as opposed to the cosy snug/den where the teens like to play games. God knows how I manage.

Me not wanting a TV has nothing to do with being ‘worthy’ - if I really want to watch something, which isn’t that often, I use my laptop, but even when I’m staying somewhere that’s got a TV I usually end up flipping through the channels & then switching it off, so it’s just not worth it. Occasionally I’ll sign up to Netflix for a bit but my laptop’s fine for that too.

It's not about worthiness for me - we just don't watch a lot of TV, maybe 2 hours a week, so it makes sense not to have our living room set up around a TV. Until recently we just used a laptop but now we live somewhere with enough space for a small separate TV area

Categorically guarantee fhat most of the things written on here , if you started a thread on what would you wish in your home, would be the exact same things,😂

Ha. This is me. A few of the things here I wish to do in my home.

Wall mounted TV; a large one at that. We currently have one in the living room and after extension it will be in the 'open plan kitchen/diner/living space where I can still see/hear the telly whilst I am in the kitchen. The current large TV in the play room will stay there and the room will become the snug for a separate lounge. Also plan to wall mount it so that it frees up floor space. We don't like squinting at the telly in this house.

We have a telly in our bedroom and I really didn't want it at the time but dh insisted. It became very handy when I was with the new born and I hid away for days just watching tv, breastfeeding and generally just being. It also came in handy when we were renovating the rest of the house and our bedroom was the only room that wasn't touched by the renovations. We all camped in there whilst we locked the dust away.

I plan to have an island and possibly bifold/or sliding doors.

I also want a hot water tap.

Off to hide now.

If money wasn't an issue, I wouldn't have a hot tub or swimming pool though.

RampantIvy · 09/10/2023 17:11

We have:
a conservatory
a TV in the living room, one in the upstairs sitting room and one in the kitchen
an en suite bathroom

I like them all.

I dislike watching anything on a small screen due to poor eyesight, and the sound quality is never good anyway

The conservatory is lovely at this time of year. Opening the french doors to the house heats the house without having heating on

The en suite means that when we have guests they get the house bathroom and we get to use ours. No-one uses the en suite for anything more than a wee in the middle of the night, so our bedroom doesn't smell. It also has an extractor fan and a window so any steam or smells are dispersed outside and not into the bedroom.
