An Aga. There was one at our previous house when we purchased it and we tried using it for a while but hated it so much we sold the awful thing.

Home gym and/or home cinema. Pointless.

TVs everywhere, particularly in the bedrooms. We have one - admittedly large, although not wall mounted - and that's enough imho.

Boiling water tap - I probably boil our kettle no more than once most days so don't see the point. Our kitchen tap cost a similar amount (£900), so it's not a cost issue.

I know ensuites, kitchen islands, taxidermy and hot tubs aren't popular on mumsnet, but I have no issues with ensuites personally (think they're very convenient especially when there are guests in the house) and miss ours.

We have a largish kitchen island that gets used daily which I love (had one at our four previous houses too) and we've collected antique taxidermy for 20+ years. I see no problem with creatures that died and were subsequently stuffed many years ago.

I love hot tubs too - we had one for several years and had it professionally moved twice when we moved house. However, for me it's all about luxuriating in hot water as opposed to the jets, so next house I'm planning on an outdoor bath or tank with hot water supply connected.

A swimming pool (indoor or outdoor).
Carpets downstairs.
Those huge folding doors that open up a whole wall...bah, what are they called?

turkeyboots · 08/10/2023 10:00

A pool or gym
Massive garden
Any form of ornate garden
Livestock, no cute pet donkeys in my house.

Twiglets1 · 08/10/2023 10:04

Wall mounted TVs have been mentioned at least twice now.

Genuine question- what is wrong with them??

Coastalcreeksider · 08/10/2023 10:07

Bath in the bedroom, en suite with no actual door from the bedroom. Yuk!

I never understand the hatred of ensuites on here but especially on this thread. People always say ‘oh why would I want to sleep 3 feet away from where someone goes to the loo’ Well, firstly, mine is much further away and secondly, the op said unlimited money meaning huge space and convenience and likely someone else to clean it.

I dream of an en-suite. Also if someone is confident in their cleaning abilities then an en-suite shouldn't phase them.

FartNRoses · 08/10/2023 10:09

This will be unpopular but I just wouldn’t display photos of my family!
Why would I do that? I live with them….
I prefer artwork….

sashh · 08/10/2023 10:58

RiderofRohan · 08/10/2023 04:50

Dogs, cats, hamsters، etc. I'm good with outside animals though.

TV in the bedroom

Marble on the walls

A swimming pool or a pond (I've heard of children drowning in home pools too many times).

I'm having a swimming pool but it is having a fence around it like they do in Australia.

It's also going to have a movable floor so it can be a paddling pool.

I don't want open plan.

Why are people mentioning toilet brushes and wall stickers? The point was about high value goods?

Yeah I thought that when people mentioned Alexas, think you can get them for 15 quid now

Haggisfish3 · 08/10/2023 11:02

This is hilarious! I genuinely can’t think of anything so repugnant to me!!
oh I know-grey. Or, worse, greige. So nothing painted greige.

A bath in the bedroom.

Oh yes. I loathe fancy hotels that have this. They make me really grumpy and if they are supposed to be sexy - the opposite!

Struggling to think of anything legal I wouldn't have money and space no object. Don't want an aga but already have a range cooker and American fridge freezer Grin. I'd even have a hot tub and swimming pool if i could Grin

Those folding glass doors that take up the whole back wall on small houses, they are ok on very large houses as it's only a small proportion of the house so not as noticeable

Fallulah · 08/10/2023 11:43

Open plan downstairs - the smell from cooking, the fact you can’t get away from anyone! We’re buying at the moment and our estate agent said the trend is very much for separate rooms downstairs now. They can’t sell the open plan properties they have on. Alongside that, big pale floor tiles all the way through - cold, clinical and the dog would never be able to stand up!

Integrated garage. They make the house cold and it feels less secure to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Astroturf but that’s fixable.

The house we are buying has those ‘Sleep’ and ‘Smallest room in the house’ stickers everywhere - those will be coming off before a box is unpacked!

One of those boiling water taps. I think I might have a genuine phobia of them, if I see on Instagram or something I start getting intrusive thoughts of having my hands scalded and it freaks me out. See also those waste disposal things in sinks. Agghhh

Rain showers are annoying to me, I much prefer water to come from a side angle. Hot tubs are gross. Porches make me feel like I’m trapped. I’m starting to think I’m weird!

We have a boiling water tap at work. It’s not quite boiling - 95 degrees or something, so it doesn’t even make proper tea. And the filter seems to need changing all the time. So now there is a backup kettle

Yes, we've got them at work. The water isn't boiling. You'd have to go out of your way to scald yourself because the water doesn't run until you've pressed one button, waited for it to flash and then pressed the other button and held it down.

mydogisthebest · 08/10/2023 12:29

Hot tub, ridiculously large tv, tv on the wall, tv in the bedroom, one of those hot water tap things in the kitchen
